School Raffle Class Incentive Winners
The School Production – Porridge
We are all looking forward to the show on
Thursday evening at The Capital.
Production rehearsals are in full swing.
Thank you to everyone who sold raffle books. For every
$2.00 ticket the school will receive $1.50. The classes
which sold the most books were:-
Grade 1 Dinosaur Museum
The museum was open yesterday to all
and was very impressive. It was very well attended by
mums, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents and even great
grandparents. It was great to see the very articulate Grade
1 tour guides as they accompanied their guests around
the museum. The almost life size dinosaur models, the
dioramas, descriptive pieces of writing and other dinosaur
themed work were all very impressive. Well done Mrs
Morgan, Mrs Nicolson and Ms Rady, the students and the
parents/carers.
Prep to Grade 2 – winning a pizza lunch

Grades 3 to 6 – winning “The Zone” excursion to play
lasertag and mini golf

Congratulations to these lucky grades!
NAPLAN 2013
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting
Authority (ACARA) have identified an error in the
placement of some of the national average indicators in
the Year 5 and Year 7 NAPLAN student reports. This has
required the reprinting of student reports with a
consequent
delay
in
distribution.
The following tweets were posted last night;
There are no errors related to the NAPLAN tests or
scoring of student results. No incorrect reports will be
released
to
students.
It is expected that delivery of reporting packages to
Victorian schools will now take place in early Term 4.
Footy Dress Up Day and Parade
th
On the last day of term, September 20 ,
the Annual KPS Footy Day will be held.
Students are invited to wear the colours
or uniform of their favourite football team
(any football code) and to bring a gold

sponsor child, Wilmer in Ecuador. Parents and Carers are
also welcome to participate. A whole school celebration
will occur in the amphitheatre at 12:30pm, weather
permitting.
Fun Food Day “Sausage Sizzle”
th
On the last day of Term 3, Friday 20 September is taking
place. Only preorders will be taken and these close this
th
Friday 13 September. There is an order form at the back
of the LINK.
Student Safety
Members of our school community are reminded to have
conversation with their child/ren about personal safety at
all times, and particularly on the way to and from school.
Please ensure your child/ren knows which route they are
expected to take and always encourage them to walk in
pairs or small groups. Also talk with them about
appropriate strategies if they encounter someone they do
not know, or who makes them feel uncomfortable.

MPR Carpark
Just a reminder to the parents who pick up their child/ren

adult, or be collected at the top of the steps. This is for the
safety of all children.

school so that the school can act in accordance with any
orders. Family Law Court Orders stipulate the rights of
both parties and enable us to act appropriately and

Intervention Orders. Please attend to this if it affects your
family.

PERFORMING ARTS NEWS
Fundraising Dinner
PORRIDGE Production Notice
This week will have two attempts at a
run through of the whole play. The
Backstage Crew have joined our
rehearsals now and are learning to
cope with the fast scene changes and
with remembering what everyone
needs. The amazing Props team in
Grade 6 have worked hard to track
down obscure props like a giant
hotdog and an operating theatre table. The sooooo
creative Sets team have been helping on Fridays and
during the week to paint giant books, make signs and do
other interesting jobs. We will be back again on Friday
morning so if you have an hour or so, why not drop in and
help? It’s lots of fun!
Sunday 13 th October at 6:00pm
Bendigo Stadium
You and your family are invited to attend a
fundraising dinner for the Energy
Breakthrough (EB) Teams. The Bendigo
Stadium will kindly donate 50% of the total
meals bill to Kennington Primary School to
support the EB teams. The invitation extends to all in the
KPS community.
On arrival each family chooses a table to dine at, orders
and pays for the meals at the counter, mentions that they
are with KPS and then simply enjoys their meals. You may
sit with your own family and friends or join others from the
KPS community.
In order to confirm numbers with the stadium so that
enough tables can be reserved for KPS, please contact
th
the school office by Wednesday 9 October to indicate
how many people will be attending. If you have any
questions regarding this event, please don’t hesitate to
contact me.

To give you an indication of the skills the students are
gaining, here are some of the common phrases they hear
from me (regularly).
·
“Project your voices! Sing from your tummies.
Heads up! Breathe before you sing!”
·
“Ma Hubbard, you enter from stage left, come to
downstage, say your lines and then exit stage
right.”
·
“Come further forward on the apron.
yourselves out evenly. Wingtips apart”
·
“Stop chatting side of stage! (x5000)”
·
“If you can see the audience, the audience can see
you.”
·
“You said that with great action and character. But
don’t smile; you’re supposed to be evil!”
·
“SLOW DOWN!“
·
“That was hysterical! But don’t forget that after a
joke, you pause and think “BOOM BOOM”!”
·
“Smile!!”
·
“Is that the underwear or money suitcase?”
STUDENT SCHOOL COUNCIL HAMPERS
October is Hamper Month at KPS. If you are able to
donate any non-perishable food items, supermarket items
(e.g. toiletries, cleaning items, etc.) or even a Christmas
gift for a child during October, please drop off your item at
the front office. The Student School Councillors will pack
the hampers at the end of the month ready for collection at
the start of November by our families who need a little bit
of extra support at this time of year.
All donations are welcome. If you would like a hamper,
please return the attached slip to Lyn Pearce in the school
th
office by Thursday 24 October. The size of the hamper
will depend on the number of donations and the number of
requests for a hamper.
Thank you

Congratulations to our Artist of the Moment. Students in
Grades five and six have been exploring the work of Pablo
Picasso. Some have painted distorted faces and others
have chosen to represent musical instruments using only
one colour in a variety of shades and tones. This is a
fabulous example of one of these Picasso Style art
works. Outstanding effort.
