GETTING TO KNOW THE MEMBERS
MICHAEL AND JULIE MCFADDEN
Julie and Mike grew up in Salt Lake City and Boise. Mike attended Boise Jr. College, The College of Idaho and the
University. Julie attended BYU and the U o U.
They met while Mike was attending the University of Utah Medical School in 1965. They have since lived in Hawaii,
Missouri and Wisconsin before returning to Utah in 1994. They have two children, Rich and Mike Jr. Both are married to
Deborahs’ and live in Colorado and Seattle with their three grandchildren.
This is the first Corvette picked up at the factory in 2006. The car now has 24,000 miles and used to commute from Park
City to his office in West Jordan. Other cars include a Volvo XC70 that has proved to be better in some conditions than
the C-6. They also have an airport cruiser Windstar that they can’t seem to part with.
Interests beyond work include golf, skiing, reading, cooking, collecting wine and walking their Siberian Husky, Cody. Julie
is an artist and continues to paint and study.
VERLYN (SATCH) MILES AND JACQUE MILES
Verlyn was born in a farm house in Smoot, Wyoming. He attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah from 1957
through 1961, receiving a B.S. in Industrial Management. He received a master’s degree from the University of Utah in
1972 in Manpower Administration.
Jacque and Verlyn met when he went in for some nose surgery. He later tried to call her at the Doctors office where she
worked, but was unable to reach her. He found her name in a phone booked and called. He called and found out that
she was committed at the time, but would like to have lunch. He won her over with his charm and they started dating and
were married on September 10, 2001. Jacque is a Registered Nurse and works for Critical Care Systems as a Clinical
Account Executive.
Verlyn currently owns a 2004 Corvette Coupe, black on black. Before this he owned a 1980 black on black Corvette. His
son, Zachary, has owned a 1988 Corvette Convertible and most recently a 2001 Corvette Z06. He is currently looking to
purchase his third Corvette and rejoin the club.
7
GLENN AND DEBBIE SIMMONS
Glenn and Debbie Simmons live in Alpine, Utah. Debbie and Glenn are the parents of 10 children and 8 grandchildren.
Debbie is a native of Ogden, but has lived in many parts of the U.S. Glenn grew up in Southern California, but has lived
most of his adult life in Utah. They have lived in Alpine for the last 6 years; and in Highland for 11 years prior to that.
Glenn is Director of Planned Giving at Utah Valley University, where he has worked for 14 years. He is also part owner of
Premier Administration, a company which does accounting and administration for over 300 charitable trusts and
foundations. Debbie has recently gone back to being a stay at home mom. Glenn is very happy as she also keeps the
cars and garage spotless.
Glenn had a 12 cylinder Jaguar and then a Porsche 911 Targa in his younger days, but this is his first Corvette. They
both fell in love with them after test drives in the last few months. Their Corvette is a 2003 50th anniversary edition which
a prior owner took extremely good care of while driving very little. Now their favorite activity is to go for drives in the
evening and enjoy the car.
BRUCE AND ALTA LAURENCE
Bruce worked in Upholstery in his older brother’s shop here in Logan during the summer and while attending the first two
years of school at USU. He was called and served a Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS in the Southern
California Mission from August 1960 to August 1962. While at USU, he was heavily involved in Photography, Army
ROTC, and part time work in his brother’s Upholstery shop. He was on the Buzzer Staff at USU, and took many
photographs for the yearbook at USU.
He met his wife Alta while serving a mission. So he waited for her for a year, and they got married in September 1963.
They both went to school for the last year of his USU experience, and as soon as he had graduated, and was
nd
nd
commissioned a 2 Lt in the Army, they were assigned to go to Fort Hood, Texas in the 2 Armored Division. He worked
there as a Photo Officer for 18 Months, and was then transferred to the Signal Corps School at Fort Gordon Georgia, and
ran the 24 channel close-circuit television system at the Signal Corp School. This was in the early days of this kind of
television work in 1964. They been married almost 45 years, and we have had six children.
Bruce’s Hobbies are Rifles, (Lifetime member of NRA), Archery, canoeing, and Corvette Automobiles. He bought a new
1993 Anniversary model, which has been maintained in like new condition.
MARK MEENTS
Mark is an Ogden boy. He went to Bonneville Highand is a district manager for Windsor Industries, an industrial cleaning
equipment manufacture. He does not have any kids but has 2 cats. He likes to drive his Corvette, hike, dirt bike, and
snowmobile. His 2008 Corvette is his 3rd Vette. He has loved Corvette's since he can remember. He also has a truck
that he uses for his work.
JERRY HANSON
Jerry is a driver for Wal-Mart in St. George. He has worked for them for 8 years. He grew up in South Dakota and moved
to Utah about 30 years ago. He lived in Salt Lake for most of that, but liked the warmer weather so moved to St. George.
He has 4 kids and 5 grand kids, most of them in Salt Lake. After high school he was in the Army, two tours in Viet Nam,
one year in the jungles, the other, part of a pink team flying the jungles. Aviation has been a part of his life for the past 30
years. He has around 5000 hours in many different types of aircraft and jets.
The Corvette is his first after 30 years of waiting. It is a 2002 coupe and has no plans of ever selling it. Ever since he got
out of the military he always wanted one of the old stingrays, but this one caught his eye and the rest is history.
KEN LINGREN
Ken works as a dispatcher for a Salt Lake trucking company. Before that, he was a load broker for a major global supply
chain company. Before that, was an over-the-road truck driver. Ken is married with 3 boys. He enjoys chess, reading,
poker, playing his guitar, and driving his new Corvette.
Ken purchased his first Corvette 10 days ago. His '93 Lincoln Town car wouldn't pass Utah emissions, so he went looking
for another used car. His budget was $8,000 to $12,000. After several days of looking, he was at a car lot looking at used
Cadillac’s. They had 3 C5 Corvettes for $20,000 to $25,000. He was just curious, and took one for a spin & decided that
was his car. He couldn't afford any of the C5's, so he went online and for 3 weeks researched the Corvettes. He found a
'98 white coupe and bought it.
TERRY AND NADINE TROXEL
Terry was born in Casper Wyoming and lived in many different states as his father was a truck driver. He graduated from
Bingham High School and enjoys hunting, fishing, working on cars. His Corvette is his first one and they also own a
Toyota RAV 4 and a Chevy Pickup. Nadine was born in Provo Utah and lived in Utah most of her life. She graduated
from Bingham High School and enjoys fishing, reading, and being with her family. They have 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy,
8
and 2 grandchildren. Terry has wanted a Corvette ever since he rode in his uncles 1968 Corvette in Boulder Colorado.
Finally the dream came true.

BUTCH CASSIDY DAYS AT BEAVER – JULY 4TH & 5TH
The Corvette Club of Utah participated in the Butch Cassidy Days Car Show at Beaver, Utah and received the Car Club
Participation Trophy. Kim Riley was presented the Trophy for Best Corvette Original and Ken and Audrey Frailey won the
Trophy for Best Corvette Custom.
12
Kim Riley was surprised to learn that the 1917 Chevrolet and 1930 Hudson once belonged to her father. Kim's
Grandfather and father took a horse and wagon to Salt Lake City and bought the car new. It was the first Chevy in
Beaver. The 1917 Chevy had been in the barn for years, but in the 80's it started right up and the new buyer drove it
home. Kim got to take a ride around Beaver in the car and was amazed to see that there was a button to start the car, a
button to stop the car, and a button to turn on the head lights. Amazing that they had the same technology back then as
the new C6 Corvette.
The club had a fun time in Beaver. We rode up the scenic Beaver mountain to Puffer Lake, visited the old Territorial Court
House and Jail Museum. John D. Lee and other famous trials were held there. Charles Manson was also arrested in
Beaver and held in this jail at one time. We visited the candle factory, cheese factory, and gun shop. A fun time was had
by all.

them to the meetings for the Ronald McDonald House. Members were also asked to bring the small toiletries from their
motel stays. Plans were also discussed regarding refurbishing several rooms at the Ronald McDonald House. The
concluding event was the raffle of an overnight stay in Wendover in support of the Tony Hofenagel ALS Charity Cruise.
Parley Dudley was the lucky winner for an overnight stay at one of the casinos.
VETTES TO WAGONS CRUISE – JULY 19TH
The Corvette Club of Utah held a charity cruise for ALS and participated in the Bear Lake Car Show in Montpelier, Idaho.
There were 40 Corvettes on the cruise up through Logan Canyon with the Highway Patrol stopping traffic for us at the
intersection in Garden City. The Tony Hofenagel charity cruise organized by Lee Turner was highly successful, with lots
of nice prizes for the raffles. Just under $2,000 was raised for the new local ALS charter.
The Car Show, Museum Tour, and dinner at the Museum organized by Steve and Debra Wolfley were also a lot of fun.
Each year, Steve and Debra organize an event near Bear Lake and are always first class events. Once again, the
Corvettes made the car show for the community and the Rotary Club was happy to have us there and participating in their
car show. The Cobra Club showed up late with 14 Cobra’s and left early. Lee and Nona Ellis, Luke and Lillian Hofenagel,
Dameon Young, and Doug Spencer took home car show awards. Ken Rice took home the biggest prize, a Love Seat
won during the car show raffle.
Dinner was at the National Oregon/California Trail Center. Prime Rib was the main course and the museum did a great
job serving it. The next day, everyone headed home in small groups, some stopping at the Wolfley’s and others heading
over the Mirror Lake Highway. It was a great weekend.
TRUE GRIT CRUISE COLORADO - AUG 1ST – 3RD
st
The Corvette Club of Utah returned to Colorado on August 1 . With 19 Corvettes, we headed for Grand Junction,
Colorado. After a quick lunch, we headed up to the Gateway Museum to see a private collection of cars. However, the
107 degree temperature and the stop lights in Grand Junction started taking it’s toll on the Corvettes. We had a couple
overheat and others had their air conditioning shut down as the Corvette’s started protecting their engines from the heat.
The trouble was worth it and the car collection was magnificent. The museum and resort were built among some of the
prettiest scenery we saw that day.
On Saturday, it was off to Ridgeway, Colorado where many of the outdoor scenes of True Grit were filmed. On the way,
we picked up another couple in a Blue C-6 who stayed and played with us most of the day. It was then up and over the
Colorado Rockies to Silverton, Colorado. Most of us had lunch in the local Cat House and watched the trains come in
from Durango. After the wives shopped, we headed back into the Colorado Rockies to Durango, Colorado. Some of us
decided to take the “scenic” route to Moab and ended up about 50 miles from the Gateway Museum. It was a long driving
day.
On Sunday, everyone headed out in small groups. Everyone either went to Arches, Dead Horse Point, or Canyon Lands.
The view was spectacular from all three sites. On the way home, the group I was traveling with got to watch my C-6 blow
it’s top on US-6. If you have a painted roof on a C-6, be careful. The fix from the recall didn’t work. It was great trip, good
accommodations, and just plain not enough time.

WYOMING DOWNS CRUISE – AUG 9TH
th
On Saturday, August 9 , the Corvette Club of Utah headed to Evanston, Wyoming for the Wyoming Downs Horse Race.
This we were parked around the circle near the entrance. In exchange for the Car Show, participants were given free
admission to the races plus a $5 credit per person for drinks or food. This year, they reserved tables for us so we could
eat and watch the races at the same time. The races were exciting and fun. No one lost a lot of money and no one made
it big. Despite the downpour during the later part of the day, it was a fun Saturday out to the races.
KRUISER FOR KIDS CHARITY CAR SHOW – AUG 16TH
th
On Saturday, August 16 CCU supported the Shiners’ Hospital with the annual charity car show for the “kids” hosted by
the Shriner’s at the Midvale City Park in Midvale, UT. As always, it was a cool shady afternoon on the grass. This is a
unique car show, because the kids come up with the awards and do the judging. Cal Schenk had the Corvette the kids
liked this year. The crowd was not as big as in previous years, but it still was a great way to help the kids.

attend. Let one of the officers know or your club friends know which office you want to run for so you can be nominated
