McKinstry H`10. Reconnect with your classmates and alma mater for three days of fun! Relive your Wayland memories and enjoy the Friday afternoon Alumni Speaker Series, the Friday Night Mixer, Saturday’s Varsity Football Game and All Alumni Dinner, and the weekend-long Alumni Art Show. All alumni are welcome, especially those celebrating Milestone Reunions: 1965 – 50th 1990 – 25th 2005 – 10th AND all classes whose years end in 0 or 5! The Distinguished Service Citation, awarded to McKinstry, is the highest honor that Wayland Academy can bestow upon an individual. Established in 1961, the award recognizes outstanding service to Wayland. McKinstry retired from the Wayland Academy Board of Trustees after seven years of service to the school in that capacity. His support was instrumental in a number of upgrades on campus, including the new building security system. John Hughes was presented the Alumni Achievement Award for his outstanding work as CEO of a health care organization in England. The award is presented annually to an individual deemed worthy of special recognition for outstanding achievement in his or her field and for representing the true ideals of the Academy. Sullivan was given the Alumni Volunteer Award, an honor presented to an alumna or alumnus whose loyal and steadfast volunteer efforts on behalf of Wayland enhance the mission of the Academy and the Alumni Association. He has served on the Board of Trustees for over 17 years, never missing a meeting, and his support of the school has been tireless. top Burnett G. This year, Wayland’s endowment benefited from two Heritage Society bequests totaling just over $1 million. Judith Pickard Yeakel `47 and Margaret Boldt Anderson `74 were both strong, active supporters of the Academy and served on the Alumni Board. Yeakel went on to serve on the Board of Trustees and was later awarded Emeritus status. Wayland is grateful to them and to the following alumni and friends who have decided to provide future sustaining support to the Academy through the Heritage Society: Endowment funds are a set of restricted gifts which generate annual income to support student scholarships, faculty compensation, academic programs, facility improvements, and other operating expenses. This endowment income is crucial to help Wayland fulfill its mission-critical objectives. Thanks to gifts received that evening, a new bouldering wall was installed in the Field House this summer, and new flooring, elliptical machines, stationary bicycles, and strength training equipment were added to a re-designed fitness center on the Field House balcony. The catch-phrase on campus these days when a student is looking to improve their physical fitness is monosyllabic: “Gains.” On behalf of the student body, thank you for the Gains.
