The Pastor’s Page
There are few things harder to do in life than to say goodbye to people where love is given and returned. I cannot comprehend the agony that Jesus had to endure during the three days; I can only accept that Jesus did it
for me. Jesus and his disciples spent the days in Jerusalem, but they always left as dark approached—they
either slept in the Garden of Gethsemane or in Bethany with Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. Jesus was always
walking, moving, teaching, coming and going, arriving and leaving. I get exhausted just thinking of the hilly 510 miles he walked each day during holy week.
The events of Holy Week, the days between Palm Sunday and Easter, are indeed the most sacred and holy
days that we encounter each year. If I was there, I would warn Jesus to keep away from Jerusalem. I would
want to be near Jesus to keep Jesus safe. That is what I want, but it is not what a sinful world needs. We
need him to go, to suffer, and to die for our sake. We need him to leave, so that we can be forgiven, and we
can be restored. The glorious Easter message is that we have forgiveness, we have hope, AND we have the
gift of eternal life. WOW!
I am writing this article as I am getting ready to move. The office is already
becoming empty as “stuff” is given away or returned to storage. We are
making plans and reservations for the next stage of our lives. Sandy and I
are ready, but that doesn’t mean that we are not feeling pain. We have
really enjoyed our lives with the people of Advent Lutheran. We have been
loved, and we have loved you in return. Our time of being together is
drawing to a close, so we continue to live our plans, for you to live out your
ministry.
I know that you will greet, welcome, include, and love Pastor Jason and
Pastor Andrea in your midst. I believe that God has a wonderful future
planned for you when you and your new pastors follow God’s call and
Great Commission.
Many of you have asked about our future plans. After Easter, we will camp in the Smokey Mountains with our
son Jason and family; then we will travel to attend the Indy Car race with Matt at Barber Racetrack in Leeds,
AL. We will return to Augusta for our final Sunday, leading worship at Advent on April 14th. On April 21st, we
begin our cruise to Copenhagen, Denmark, with a stop to visit Pastor Earl’s sister and husband in England before returning to the USA. We will spend several weeks with family here before we hitch up and head towards
Nova Scotia. The next date that we have a commitment is October 13th, to attend the 125th anniversary of a
formerly-served church in Ohio. We will then return to the southeast, waiting to see what God wants us to do
next.
We conclude with prayers that you will have a meaningful Holy Week and Easter celebration. We pray for a
wonderful and growing relationship between the people of Advent Lutheran and Pastor Andrea and Pastor Jason Peterson. So with feelings of sorrow upon leaving some of the most wonderful, faithful, and loving people
we have known, but feeling enriched by our time together with you, we say farewell and thank you for opening
yours hearts to us.

April Catch the Spirit Dinner
Wednesday, April 17th 6:15pm
Hosted by: Worship Ministry
The Worship & Music Ministry would like to thank the many volunteers who assist with the worship
services at Advent. There are many opportunities to serve: ushers, greeters, readers, young people as
acolytes. We also have assisting ministers and communion assistants serving during worship.
Our wonderful Director of Music, Ginny Sweeton, leads the choirs. They include the chancel choir,
handbells, and children’s choir. She also leads the contemporary band and leads us in music each
service.
Behind the scenes, the altar guild prepares the sanctuary for worship each week. They work to ensure
that the Lord’s Supper is ready, and they maintain the vessels and vestments used on the altar, and
ensure the decorations in the sanctuary reflect the current liturgical season.
We thank all of the volunteers for their dedication to this ministry.
