Videotron Leverages QLogitek’s
SaaS Supply Chain Software to
Strengthen Its Retail Order Fulfillment Business
Videotron, the largest cable system operator in
Quebec, leverages QLogitek’s Software-as-a-Service
(SaaS) solutions to strengthen its supply chain. Its
expanding cable and wireless business demanded
greater supply chain efficiency, therefore Videotron
turned to QLogitek for automating and integrating its
supply chain with key retail partners including The
Brick and Future Shop.
Using QLogitek’s Hosted EDI System and Supplier Order
Management System Videotron is automating and
integrating core order fulfillment business processes
to support its growth with retail trading partners. All
inbound business-to-business (B2B) transactions to
Videotron and outbound transactions to retail partners
are now directly synchronized with Videotron’s SAP
ERP system using QLogitek’s on-demand Integrationas-a-Service (IaaS) and iDoc adapter solution.
QLogitek’s SaaS Supplier Order Management System
accepts inbound transactions such as Purchase
Order (850) in all formats from retailers and creates
corresponding iDoc files for Videotron’s SAP ERP
system. Similarly, all outbound transactions like
ASNs (856) and Invoices (810) to retail partners are
converted from SAP’s custom format to the standard
required by the retailers.
QLogitek’s SaaS based Hosted EDI and Supplier Order
Management systems are helping Videotron improve
its supply chain while leveraging its investment in
SAP. The immediate business benefits to Videotron
from this undertaking include: seamless integration
of retailers with its ERP system for better visibility,
reduction in manual data entry, reduction in errors,
and faster order-to-cash cycles.

The Bargain! Shop (TB!S), one of Canada’s largest
general merchandisers and long-time QLogitek client,
has been on an aggressive retail expansion path. Since
August 2008, TB!S has added 70 new stores to its
burgeoning retail operation – an impressive 40 percent
year-over-year growth. In November 2009, TB!S plans
to open its 250th store, a 9500 sq. ft. retail outlet in
Wawa, Ontario. This aggressive growth coupled with
their commitment to keep all TB!S stores “well stocked,
on-time, with hundreds of everyday basics at the lowest
prices” calls for a Best-in-Class supply chain.
Running an efficient retail supply chain requires
both astute management practices and good
supply chain software systems. TB!S will leverage
QLogitek’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Supplier Order
Management and Hosted EDI systems so that it may
provide its customers with “everyday basics at the
lowest prices” on-time, spanning from British Columbia
to New Brunswick.
The supply chain systems and practices at TB!S contain
all key characteristics of a Best-in-Class retail supply
chain, as benchmarked by industry thought-leader
Aberdeen Group. QLogitek’s SaaS supply chain software
systems enable TB!S to automate its procure-to-pay
process. This is done by seamlessly integrating TB!S
to its vast supplier community using Integration-asa-Service (IaaS) and extending TB!S’s traditional IT
capability beyond its four walls. These practices provide
TB!S with visibility and control over its multi-enterprise
supply chain. The end result: on-time availability of
goods on TB!S store shelves coast-to-coast…and most
importantly, happy customers.
The case of TB!S is a perfect example of how QLogitek’s
SaaS Supply Chain Software Systems coupled with astute
management practices drive superior retail growth even
in the face of difficult macro-economic conditions. In
competitive industries like retail and CPG, SaaS solutions
provide an opportunity to improve the bottom-line by
reducing both capital and operating IT costs without
compromising operational competitiveness. QLogitek’s
SaaS supply chain software provides retailers such as
The Bargain! Shop with the following key advantages:
reduced IT costs, increased worker productivity at both
head office and store levels through the elimination of
manual paperwork and errors, reduced staff training
costs, and a highly efficient retail operation.

Why the Time is Right for SaaS
Solutions in the CPG and Retail Markets
An Article by Jeffrey M. Kaplan, Managing Director,
THINKstrategies and Founder of the SaaS Showplace
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and the broader idea of
cloud computing have captured plenty of industry and
press attention, but they have also created an equal
share of confusion and even controversy.
While there are valid reasons to be cautious about how
to approach these rapidly evolving web-based alternatives, there is also plenty of evidence that they are not
a passing fad and deserve careful consideration.
Cloud computing and SaaS represent a fundamental
shift in the way technology and business applications
are packaged, priced, delivered and utilized to enable
businesses to better serve their customers, better support their employees and partners, and better compete
in the market.
What makes SaaS and cloud computing different from
previous generations of over-hyped technologies is how
they are delivering tangible and measurable business
benefits to companies of all sizes across nearly every
industry sector.
These ‘on-demand’ online services are responding to a
‘Perfect Storm’ of macro-market forces,
1. Economic forces which are driving down customer
demand as well as customer loyalty.
2.Business forces which are making it imperative that
companies reduce their operating costs and become
more agile.
3.Technology forces which are driving customers and
companies to become more comfortable and reliant
on web-based services.
In the same way that the web has transformed the
business-to-consumer (B2C) market, SaaS and cloud
computing is transforming the business-to-business
(B2B) industry. For CPG and retail companies who have
historically lived in a world with limited operating margins, SaaS solutions can transform the way in which you
interact with your customers and partners, and permit
you to dramatically reduce the time to market and return on investment of new products and services.
For more information regarding these trends, read about
THINKstrategies’ research perspective in conjunction
with Cutter Consortium in my market analysis entitled,
“Cloud Computing and Software as a Service: The Hyper,
the Hype, and the Facts”, at http://www.cutter.com/
