muslim (+ 216 millions people).

Religious Culture of Indonesia
 Halal as the sensitive issue. Some example of halal issue :
• The case of pig fat emerged (1988)
• The case of media containing pig compound in MSG
production (2000)
 Muslim Indonesia consist of various four Mazhab (school of law)
 The establishment of a fatwa (shariah judgement) is a collective
decision (ijma 'jama'i) through the MUI Fatwa Committee, not
by Mufti (individual).

Global Halal Market
• By 2030 the trade value of global halal food market is expected to
reach one (1) billion US dollars per year, it is equal to
approximately 20% of the global food market. It is estimated that
industrial value will reach 10 (ten) billion US dollars (global
futures and foresights).
• It is estimated that by 2019 the halal food market valued is US $
2.537 billion (21% of global spending), the halal cosmetics
market is US $ 73 billion (6.78% of global spending), and the
personal halal needs is US $ 103 billion (6 , 6% of global
expenditure).


LPPOM MUI authorize for scientific perspective.

Auditor LPPOM MUI is the witness and representative of ulama
(The Assessment Institute for Food, Drug and
Cosmetic, The Indonesian Council of Ulama) is an institution under
MUI which one of the duties is conducting halal examination/audit and
assessment.
(clerical task) to assess and analyze any halal critical points of the
products based on scientific and tecnological approach.

Auditor Halal must be a Muslim.

2. MUI Fatwa Committee
is one of MUI committees who
issues fatwa or Islamic shariah decree based on the results of
examintanion by LPPOM MUI as an investigative/examining body in
halal certification process.
 MUI Fatwa Committee authorize for the Islamic Law (Syariah)
perspective.
 Membership of the Fatwa Committee is represent all Islamic
organization in Indonesia (consisting of the experts in the field of
Shariah, Islamic da’wah, Ulumul Qur’an, Ulumul Hadits, etc).
 MUI Fatwa Committee issues halal fatwa and for halal product stated
on Halal Certificate as the written Fatwa.

LPPOM MUI has commitment to provide laboratorium in order to give
an efficient and realiable services for the sake of ummah in consuming
Halal product halal globally. Generally, the he Halal LabTM will foccusing on
the PCR* technology which can detect DNA of something ehich prohibited
until a very low unit (magnitut picogram), compare to the other technology. This lab also
developing and offering other technology services to detect non halal material which can be
found in daily life.
