About us The LooLa adventure group is the leading provider of overseas school trips, with over 40 full-‐time staff in Singapore & Indonesia – all dedicated to Education outside the classroom. We operate at our Bintan-‐based flagship LooLa Adventure resort, and at a careful and exclusive selection of our region’s top school destinations. Teachers ourselves and passionate lovers of the outdoors, adventure, action, nature & community, we believe in tours that mix action with truly meaningful engagement with local communities. Our region is simply amazing: the locations and programs described below rank amongst the best educational outdoor experiences in the world. See (our facebook page at) http://loola.net 1
But before we talk about the stunning adventure so close to Singapore … Everywhere we operate, we aim to integrate spectacular action and adventure with community and environmental programs. More than a natural mix, merging community and action programs actually enhances both, and cements either’s educational benefits. From the point of view of a responsible tourism operator, we believe no operation is sustainable unless the local community and environment benefit, and we hope you will consider mixing your action with CIP. For more details and a sample list of the more than 300 projects undertaken by Singapore schools with us, please refer to our CIP&culture document. Why do we recommend Indonesia and Krabi (Thailand) as the region’s best destinations? Indonesia offers more variety in terms of culture, history, natural beauty and action than any other country in Asia, if not the world. White water rafting, caving, kayaking, climbing, volcano-‐trekking, cycling through stunning rice paddy fields? Indonesia’s got it. Thousands of years of unbroken history (different on each island), wild tigers and orang utans, a splendid local cuisine and a lively original arts scene, global software competition winners next to primitive tribes who still hunt with bow and arrow, Indonesia’s got that too. SE Asia’s democratic front-‐runner, its people appreciate open and free discussions and interactions, and they are genuinely friendly, curious, hospitable, and interested in contact with foreigners. So for action, nature and CIP, Indonesia simply makes for our region’s best school destination. The simple rule of thumb is this: whatever another country has on offer, Indonesia has it too – but more spectacular and at a lower cost! The only exception to this rule is, to our mind, the Krabi Bay area (Thailand), which boasts a natural beauty in a class all of its own, and more breathtaking activities per square km than anywhere else in the world – at the lowest price of all local destinations that involve flights. Malaysia naturally comes to mind as a destination, but travel is a problem: instead of a long and tedious bus journey from Singapore, all destinations listed below are just a few hours away by varied and attractive travel. Malaysia also misses, in our view, the WOW! factor, with the notable exception of the stunning Juara beach in Tioman, and we are working with a quality partner there to offer trips. We like Burma for its natural beauty, culture, and people, but we don’t like its politics (although things are beginning to change), and we like Cambodia, but we are concerned about its newly emerged medicine-‐resistant form of Malaria, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-‐pacific/8072742.stm. Everything else is further away and more costly, without offering anything beyond what’s on display in Indonesia and Thailand. Our recommended action & adventure destinations (roughly in order of price) We will be happy to email you more information on the destinations below.
