At St. Timothy Catholic School we:
RESPECT our Catholic faith traditions
CELEBRATE our achievements and
March-April 2016
PREPARE tomorrow’s thinkers.
Principal Perspective
March is the month of transition from winter to spring, from Term 1 now fully into Term 2. Our focus as a faith
community in this season of Lent is on the Death and Resurrection of our Lord at Easter. Our Ash Wednesday
Liturgy was held here at the school; Confessions for students and staff were held on Feb 24 th, and the Easter Mass
will be held on April 8th. Parents and guardians, please join us if your schedule permits. There will be classroom
mini-retreats and other observances during the Lenten season. Congratulations to the Grade 4 students who participated in the Bible Celebration and the Grade 2 students who received the sacrament of Reconciliation for the
first time. Please contact St. Aloysius Parish directly for information regarding First Communion and Confirmation- information packages from the parish have already been sent home. Thank you to our School Council, parent
volunteers and staff who made our Shrove Tuesday/Pancake lunch an unqualified success! Thank you to all the
students and staff who volunteered and participated in the Children’s Mass at St. Aloysius this past Sunday. Congratulations and thank you to the Girls Volleyball Team and Coach Miller for their second place finish and to the
Boys Basketball Team and Coach Pus, for their first place finish in their respective tournaments. Go Tigers! Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Skills Canada Competition, with thanks to Mrs. Miller and
the support of Mr. Eulenberg. Many Primary students are enjoying a Hockey Tournament ably convened by Mrs.
Zach. As well, thanks to Mr. Janssen for making the K of C Free Throw an unqualified success and for his ongoing
work on the weekly Imagination Society Writing Club.
Please join me in welcoming to St. Timothy Mr. Matthew Guagliano, in for Mr. Eulenberg’s 6/7 class and wishing
all the best to Ms. Lee Anne Hanneman on her new teaching assignment. As well, please join me in welcoming
back to St. Timothy Ms. Taveena Kum (ECE) and wishing Mrs. Donna Loucks all the best going forward.
We continue to pray for the return of Mr. Chris Eulenberg and Mrs. Pam Garbutt, as soon as they are able.
On behalf of the entire staff, we wish you a restful, faith and family-centred March Break; safe journey on your
travels.

Pastoral News
Our Lenten Journey began on Wednesday February 10h when we received ashes. On Feb. 24th our
students received the sacrament of reconciliation at St. Timothy School. Lent is an extremely
important time of the liturgical year as it affords us time to prepare and reflect on the death and
resurrection of Jesus. It is through His way of the cross, death and resurrection that we are saved.

Technology team designed a rescue device to save a puppy. The Lego Robotics team went
from getting 5 points last year to 55 this year!
Our two construction teams got gold and silver medals. Congratulations to all participants,
you made us really proud. GO TIGERS!

BASKETBALL
On February 22, the St. Timothy Tigers boys basketball team competed in
the small school tournament at St. Mary's High School. Timothy B, Jesse
S, Luke M, Luka M, Cullan G, Austin K, Antonio P, Aiden R, Liam C, Jack K,
Anashe M, Carter R, and Michael S demonstrated teamwork, determination, enthusiasm and great sportsmanship on their way to the gold medal game. The
boys were not tested as they easily out-rebounded, out-defended and out-hustled
their opponents. Two buzzer-beating half-court shots sealed victory for the Tigers! Gold Medal! Coach Pus was very proud of the great passing and teamwork exhibited by the team. Go Tigers!
Get ready to cook up some Science in March!
Let's Talk Science is coming to St. Timothy in March. This free outreach program
is offered to elementary schools by the University of Waterloo. Students from the Faculty of Science volunteer their time to deliver enrichment activities to increase awareness of the importance and value
of Science to society. It also stands to highlight the contributions that
Waterloo Science makes to scientific understanding. Let's Talk Science provides curriculum-aligned activities for students through creative and engaging methods expanding science literacy and understanding both in and
out of the classroom. We will enjoy their visits March 9, 10 and 11. (organized by Mrs.
Zach)
It's Time for Primary Floor Hockey
Primary floor hockey intramurals for students in grades 1, 2 and 3
start February 29 and go until the end of March. A number of games
will be played each week during morning or afternoon recess. Teams
are a mix of all grades. (organized by Mrs. Zach) Go teams, go!
Intermediate Girls’ Volleyball

March 2016 FitBit - March is Nutrition Month!
The theme of Nutrition Month for 2016 is Eating 9-5, which encourages us to try to eat healthy when
we are at school or work as well as at home. Although healthy eating is important all year round, Nutrition Month reminds us to make healthy choices where we live, work, learn and play!
Packing healthy lunches and snacks at school is a great way to get more servings of healthy foods
from Canada’s Food Guide. Here are some ideas to help with packing healthy lunches, for kids at
school and for adults at work too!
Provide a refillable water-bottle along with packed lunches. Water is the best choice for beverages
and kids are able to refill it from the water fountain at school throughout the day.
Aim to include one food from each of the four food groups on Canada’s Food Guide: a Vegetable
or Fruit, a Grain Product, a Milk or Alternative, and a Meat or Alternative.
Try a bento box style lunch – Pack a variety of finger foods (at
least one from each food group!) in a reusable container with
separated compartments. Kids have a limited time to eat
lunch at school, so finger foods are a great idea since they
are quick and easy to eat.
Tell Us What You Think!
You are invited to participate in a survey
about WCDSB Extended Day programs.
To share your opinions and complete the survey, go to:
https://survey.wcdsb.ca/extended-day.aspx
Every year The Waterloo Catholic District School Board conducts these surveys to help us have a better understanding of
the needs within our school communities. You are invited to complete a web-based survey that asks about your opinions &
needs with Extended Day Programs.
Your participation in the study is voluntary. You do not have to participate if you do not want to. You can choose to leave
any question blank. Your information will be kept private. The program staff, principals or other school board staff will not
know what you have said on your survey.
If you have any questions about the survey and would like to speak to someone please contact 519-578-3660.
