My prediction is that it will be cloudy, no shadow we’ll be seen and we’ll have an early Spring here at Innisbrook. All kidding aside, I wanted to inform everyone that Easter will be the last week of March this year. As in years past, we will be hosting the American Junior Golf Association over the Easter holiday. With the PGA Tour here the second week and AJGA here the last week, I encourage all members and their guests to play a lot of golf the first and third weeks of March. It’s always an exciting time of year with the Copperhead being in PGA form and I wanted to give everyone an early notice to plan accordingly. pipeline | 4 I’m very excited to announce that Jordan Spieth has verbally committed to return to defend his Valspar Championship victory. Jordan remains the #1 player in the world and has started out the year right where he left off last season, winning the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua by eight strokes, shooting 30 under par! Jordan is only the second player ever to do so on the PGA Tour and looks to be in top form to start the season. With the newly restored Copperhead Course, and the #1 player in the world returning to defend his title, we are anticipating record crowds and television ratings for the event. Besides great golf, Valspar has announced that Rascal Flatts will be performing the first night of the Tournament (Thursday, March 10th) on the Osprey Driving Range here at Innisbrook. I think those that attended The Band Perry concert last year would agree, this is an unique event that you won’t want to miss. I’m very proud to announce that Superintendants Ryan Stewart & Rob Koehler are the 2015 co-Managers of the Year here at Innisbrook. Ryan and Rob did an amazing job, under adverse conditions, leading their teams over the seven month restoration of the Copperhead Golf Course this summer. Despite many challenges with the weather and record amounts of rain, they never faltered. Their incredible leadership, expertise and work ethic make them very deserving of this prestigious award. Please help me in congratulating them on a job well done Bobby Barnes Daily Golf Clinics Mon Tues Wed Thurs Fri Sat Sun 10-11am 10-11am 10-11am 10-11am 10-11am 9-9:45am* 10-11am 10-11am Bunker Full Swing Putting & Chipping Full Swing Pitching Junior Full Swing Full Swing Putting & Chipping North End North End North End North End North End North End North End North End Daily Clinics take place on the Osprey Practice Facility. Aside from golf instruction and better fitness, another way to gain maximum performance is through proper club fitting. Poorly fitted equipment can greatly damage your results. Here’s an example: •S hafts: proper length for centeredness of contact & proper posture, flex & weight to match individuals strength and ability, kick point for best ball flight • Lie Angle: if impact is toe or heel deep that will direct the ball right or left offline • Grip Size: if fitted correctly in the hands, the pressure is light, position is proper and club face squares up at impact Now with the technology of launch monitors like Trackman, fittings are much more efficient to optimize distance and roll out. According to Joe Colbert, a Titleist & Taylor Made custom fitter… ”Low launch and high spin can reduce distance as much as 40%” If you have a difficult time just making constant contact, a golf lesson would be suggested before a fitting since the fitting will be based off the results of ball striking. If you have any questions or need more assistance, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. We will be hosting a custom fitting day in February. pipeline | 7 INDABA SPA Complementing Western treatments with African rituals F E B R U A R Y S PA P A C K A G E S Ready for Romance Special Member exclusive pricing Strawberry Rhubarb Facial – 50 minutes - $80 Achieve a bright and radiant looking complexion with our Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant. Disney & Dali: Architects of the Imagination p i p e l i n e | 14 Disney & Dali is our next daytime bus trip to St. Pete. For those that enjoyed our last few outings to the museums in the area, this is another one you won’t want to miss. The Disney & Dali: Architects of the Imagination trip will be on Monday, February 22. Here is a brief synopsis of the show and what we have to look forward to seeing. About the show: This immersive and enriching multimedia exhibition will tell the story of the unlikely alliance between two of the most renowned artists of the twentieth century: brilliantly eccentric Spanish Surrealist Salvador Dali and American entertainment innovator Walt Disney. Presented through a multimedia wonderland of original paintings, story sketches, conceptual artwork, objects, correspondence, archival film, photographs, and audio – this comprehensive exhibition showcases two vastly different icons who were drawn to each other through their unique personalities, their collaboration on the animated short Destino, and their enduring friendship. Both Disney and Dali had the creative power to bring dreams to life – reaching beyond the twodimensional space of the canvas and cinema frame, into the world around us – creating magical realms where we can experience the wonder and delight of the impossible brought to life. The cost for the transportation and museum tour is $40. Lunch in downtown St. Pete will be on own. Nature Watch Christmas Bird Count Written and photographed by Golf Operations Dave Noel p i p e l i n e | 26 A team of five experienced birders looked for birds during the recent Christmas Bird Count (CBC) on the grounds of Innisbrook. With almost 1,000 acres it took well into the afternoon to search all four golf course and condo grounds. The north Pinellas total count for the day was 161 species. Team Innisbrook accounted for 70 species, not bad! The highlights for the day: calling out 4 Screech Owls, then looking at us for some with the flashlights on them: Seeing the flocks of thousand of Redheads in large V formations banking to land right over our heads, the sound was amazing: the mixed flock of Warblers in the old oak trees, along with one of my favorites of the day a Blue Headed Vireo. Other cool birds found on the property were Sedge Wren, Cedar Waxwing, Orange-Crowned Warbler, Cooper’s Hawk, Sharpe-Shined Hawk, Bufflehead Duck and American Goldfinch. For a complete list of birds that were seen go to https://davebrdd05.wordpress.com/2016/01/05/chcristmas-bird-count-innisbrook/. 36750 U.S. HIGHWAY 19 NORTH | PALM HARBOR, FL 34684-1239 TEL: 727.942.2000 | INNISBROOKGOLFRESORT.COM pipeline | 27
