Overtime By: Paula and Jerry Tackett Overtime is a first of its kind, a tribute bike to a basketball team. I had been thinking about a custom bike for some time and wanted one for myself, I looked at many designs and even sketched some out, then one evening, during dinner and a few after-dinner drinks, because that’s when we do our best thinking, after drinks, I said, why not and why not a Kings bike. I’ve been a Kings fan since 1989, love the Sacramento Kings. I’ve seen many custom built bikes but never a custom bike for an NBA team. I wanted a custom bike that looked sexy & fast and I knew Mark Bachman was the guy for the build. He has worked on many of my motorcycles over the years, my 1999 FatBoy, which is now a custom with a beautiful paint job of feathers, and Jerry’s bike that is done with a Raiders’ theme. So I sat down with Mark, gave him my ideas. Mark of Bachman’s Custom Cycles prepared some concept drawings for the bike, the concept drawings were great, and it looked sexy & fast. The construction began 2004 and a few months later, Walla! The King “Overtime” was completed in 2005, with a Cory Ness Y2K frame, a TP124 cubic in motor, (130 hp), the seat handmade by Tony Manuel, one of his last, and paint & graphic by Nate Sisam. --- the name was perfect too, the Kings were in their prime at that time, going into overtime and making the game fun to watch, keeping you on the edge of your seats, wow! What fun to watch. Funny thing Overtime travels more than we do!... Overtime has been to many fundraisers on display to help raise money for the Burn Institute for Children, poker-runs; Overtime has been to Bike shows, even a few luncheons. In 2010 Joe & Gavin Maloof signed the bike, which was the final touch. Jerry and I are owners of the Road Trip Bar & Grill, it’s a favorite destination in Capay for many bikers/travelers... $1 burgers & Live music on Wednesday nights... (Spartan Burger I ) & (Spartan Burger II). A group of students were chosen to put the Esparto Spartan Burger on the map, history was made when 6 girls from the Cheerleading Team and 6 boys from the Football Team, gathered around the table in Area 51, at the Road Trip Bar & Grill, Wednesday June 1st, to taste three well prepared burgers. Some of the Students comments were: “Spicy not my favorite”, “Go light on the sauce, but overall good flavor”, Overall, excellent burger, good spice”, “Great burger”, “Not a fan of BBQ sauce”, “Good Bacon, best one, loved the BBQ sauce”, “Very good, bacon was amazing !!! 1/2 pt” , “Liked it alot, a little less Slaw, but really good”. My favorite comment from one of the students was, “ If I had a dream about a burger, it would be burger A, don’t listen to the children. Man Burger!” The Students were great, and did well in tasting and choosing the burger, all in all it was a tie, so we decided to put the two burgers on the menu. Spartan Burger I, House made burger topped w/ Bacon, Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Ortega Chili, (AKA) Road Trip Slaw, BBQ sauce on a Toasted Bun. Spartan Burger II, House made burger topped w/ Bacon, Pepper Jack Cheese, Ortega Chili, Crispy Onion Rings, Chipoli Sauce on a Toasted Bun. The Road Trip Bar & Grill will donate $1.00 to the Cheerleader & Football Teams of Esparto High School from every (Spartan Burger I ) sold, and $1.00 to the Cheerleader & Football Team of the Esparto Middle School for every (Spartan Burger II ) sold. Come in and try our Spartan Burgers, the Students have spoken!! GO Spartans ! ROADTRIPBG.COM G LIVE MUSIC... GREAT PARTIES SPAM Trivia & Facts? Club, Spam Spaghetti, Spam Baked Macaroni, Spam Nuggets and Spam Caesar Salad. This ground pork-shoulder and ham product would become the world’s largest selling canned meat. It was created to make use of surplus pork shoulder, mixing it with ham, salt, sugar and sodium nitrite. To distinguish Hormel’s “spiced ham” from similar products, the company held a contest to come up with a unique name. Kenneth Daigneau, brother of a Hormel executive, won the $100 prize with ‘Spam.’ Spam was developed by George A. Hormel & Co. and first marketed in 1937. Spam is a registered trademark name for a canned ground pork shoulder and ham product introduced by the Hormel Company in 1937. During WW II, Hormel sold more than half of its output to the U.S. government, which supplied SPAM to the armed forces of the U.S., and also to the U.S.S.R. under the lend-lease program. The 1 billionth can of spam was sold in 1959. The 6 billionth can was produced in 2002. West Yellowstone sponsors the ‘Spam Cup’ cross country ski race, with the winner receiving a can of Spam. In addition to the U.S., spam is produced in 7 other countries: Australia, Denmark, UK, Japan, Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan. Spam is distributed in more than 50 countries. Austin, Minnesota, is home to the Hormel Company’s plant that produces Spam, a canned meat product popular with Americans. Created in 1937, some of the first commercials aired on TV were for Spam. Spam even has a mascot -- Spammy, the miniature pig. In 1991, for its 100th anniversary, Hormel Foods opened the First Century Museum. The exhibit of Spam memorabilia quickly became the most popular. In the United States alone, 3.6 cans of Spam are consumed every second, making it the number one product in its category (canned meat) by far. On the island of Guam, more than eight cans of Spam are consumed by every person each year. More than 60 years after it was first produced, Spam is still enormously popular. More than 6 billion cans have been sold! Library of Congress Local Legacies Project The SPAMJAM Cafe opened in February 2004 in the Philippines. Except for hot dogs, French fries and desserts, all other menu items are made with Spam, including Spam Burger, Spam Hero, Spam Richard LeFevre holds the world record for eating SPAM by eating 6 pounds in 12 minutes.
