fitness apparel giant Under Armour. Working closely with the client, Schimenti completed this dramatic retail space in just
twelve weeks.
Located in SOHO in a historic cast-iron
building that was completely gutted and
rebuilt, the new Under Armour flagship is
a sophisticated and striking retail space.

A Season of Food and Fun!
This summer, the employees at Schimenti’s Ridgefield
headquarters discovered a new meaning for the word
meeting: “mmmmm ... eating!”
At 12,000-plus square feet, the store is the retailer’s
largest and represents the New York City debut of its
premium Brand House format, which showcases the
company’s cutting-edge products.
Echoing that idea, the store features a 30’ by 16’ video
wall with more than two million LEDs; as well as a
living green wall measuring 15’ by 30’ and consists
of thousands of individual green plants. Each of the
fitting rooms is modeled after a famous sports court
or stadium.
The store also houses Under Armour’s first Rowhouse
Basement shop, a VIP area where staff provide private consultation to athletes and celebrity clientele in
an intimate setting.
For the duration of Summer, the company hosted a
series of fun and delicious special events, in addition
to weekly complimentary lunches, including steak
salad, shrimp Caesar salad, gourmet focaccias and
much more.
It all started with May’s Doce de Mayo luncheon
catered by Chipotle (it’s like Cinco de Mayo, but a week
later and even better), which marked our partnership
with the restaurant chain. Olé!
In June, we kicked the season off by welcoming back
our favorite vendor, Mike Principi of Chez Lenard,
who makes gourmet hot dogs with unique toppings.
Employees who have a weekend craving for Le hot
dog Choucroute Alsascienne et Garniture Suisse will
have to visit Chez Lenard’s stand on Main Street in
Ridgefield. The month of June also saw a Hot Dog &
Burger Day.
In July, we enjoyed Chilly Willy’s ice cream treats served
from his truck. Also that month, Chef Raffael prepared
a delicious BBQ lunch of ribs, pulled pork, shrimp kebabs, grilled vegetables, fruit and homemade cookies.
Finally in August, the pizza fire truck rolled up to treat
employees to delicious specialty pies.
Now, that’s the kind of mmmmm ... eating everyone
loves to attend!

In just three years, Charles Esteves has become
an integral part of the Schimenti team. Charles is
a Senior Project Manager and has seen many of
our key projects through to completion, including
Target in Staten Island, Zara, Victoria’s Secret and
Massimo Dutti.

“With just a decade in the construction industry,
Charles has demonstrated leadership and strong
construction knowledge,” said SCC Executive Vice
President, Joseph Rotondo. “He develops strong
client relationships and remains aler t to the
strengths, weaknesses and potential threats of
each project.”
Charles earned his bachelor’s degree in architecture and sociology from Yale University, and subsequently earned an MBA at New York University.
He is LEED accredited and a HERS energy rater.
Outside of work, Charles likes to cycle and sketch.
Recently, he has begun answering to a new name:
Dad, as he has become the proud father of a baby
girl.
COS, Collection of Style, an H&M Brand has partnered
with Schimenti to build their first U.S. store located at
129 Spring Street, New York, NY in a pre-constitution
landmark building.
The 7,600 square foot future retail space, is well
known for “The Manhattan Well Murder”and its ranking
by the Travel Channel as one of the 10 most haunted
places in America.
Schimenti is currently in the process of completely
rebuilding the interior of the five story building which
involves lowering the basement floor, excavating soil,
removing the building’s roof, and installing a new
elevator and escalators.

the New York Labor Law

The Scaffold Law: Protecting Workers,
Protecting Ourselves.
As an employer in an industry that sees its share
of accidents and injuries, Schimenti Construction
adheres to all safety regulations and guidelines to
keep its employees and subcontractors as safe
as possible. One such regulation that comes with
unique challenges is the Scaffold Law, known
formally as New York Labor Law Section 240.
The Scaffold Law requires owners, contractors
and their agents involved in constructing, demolishing, repairing, altering, painting and cleaning
structures to either furnish workers with or ensure they are provided equipment that will prevent
them from falling or being struck by falling objects.
The devices include scaffolding, ladders, hoists,

Of all the statutes that create liability for an owner or general contractor in a construction setting
in New York, the Scaffold Law is by far the most
controversial and litigated. This law is so challenging because it assigns absolute liability to owners
and contractors if they do not provide the equipment (meaning that fall protection devices must
be available, visible and in place at the workers’
stations). This imposition of absolute liability on
defendants–even when the plaintiff is partially at
fault (working while intoxicated, for instance)–is
an exception to New York personal injury law. Even
the general availability of fall-protection devices
at a work site does not fully relieve a defendant
of liability.
We at Schimenti believe the Scaffold Law, while
particularly challenging, is essential to maintaining a safe working environment on every
project. Our primary response, therefore, is
to diligently adhere to this law by providing
appropriate fall-prevention equipment at
all our job sites. Further, Schimenti protects
itself through appropriate contract language,
transferring our potential Scaffold Law liability to subcontractors through hold-harmless
provisions and broad indemnity agreements
covering us for any liability arising out of the
contracted work, and by requiring contractors
and subcontractors to name us as additional
insureds in all liability insurance policies.
