The Faithful Fashionista: Power of the Purse
The Faithful Fashionista: Power of the Purse Ask any woman—your handbag makes your life, and your look! Whether you’re searching for something to carry everything from a wallet to a computer, or for a small clutch for an elegant lunch or dinner, several new boutiques can fit your fashion bill. Douglas Elliman broker Faith Hope Consolo reports on the newest additions to the avenues. Anya Hindmarch 795 Madison Avenue (coming soon) 29 East 60th Street Practical, stylish, luxurious—the definition of Hindmarch’s bags, worn by royalty, celebrity, and anyone looking for a real return on their fashion investment. This season’s distinctly Dickensian offerings include the Tiny Tim tote and Carker, with fabulous (and efficient) outside pockets, and the Ebenezer cross-body in various color combinations. Look for a relocation to take place in the coming months. French Brand Céline joins the ranks on madison av e n u e Ghurka 65 Prince Street (opening in October) 781 Fifth Avenue (The Sherry Netherland) Though named for the soldiers of Nepal, Ghurka is synonymous American craftsmanship, with each bag handmade by master artisans. The results are bags that are made for travel, either across the street or across the world. New designs include travel bags in linen, joining the traditional leather duffels, attaché cases, purses and leather accessories. And the new flagship will present the goods in an appropriate design, with early 20th century casework paying homage to the World War I heyday of the Ghurka soldiers. Perrin Paris 987 Madison Avenue Located at the Carlyle Hotel, this is the New York flagship of the family-owned French leather designer, established in 1893. While the first generation was best known for its gloves, and an earlier store existed in New York in the 1920s, this shop is a statement from the fourth generation of the Perrin family. Today, they produce elegant bags, gloves and accessories, often with exotic materials such as crocodile and python. In addition to traditional designs, look for the stunning Ball Bag, a new spin on the bowling ball shape. (And, yes, gloves.) scene.10.12.adv.HopeFaith.indd 2 top: Billy farrell/bfanyc.com; Bottom: Getty images,Marc Piasecki/FilmMagic P e r r i n Pa r i s o p e n s at t h e C a r ly l e h ot e l Céline 870 Madison Avenue Still available at Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys, the revitalized Céline’s new flagship offers a full presentation of its apparel, and especially its leather goods. As usual, Phoebe Philo blends the modern with the classic: This season is about jewel tones and classic shapes, including a shoulder bag that combines the structure of a satchel with the softness of a hobo, and the multi-colored trapeze bag looks as though it’s ready for flight! 9/28/12 12:27 PM
