Take Action
Seniors Vote Rally and CARP Fredericton Flag Raising:
On October 1 CFUW Fredericton
members Jenipher, Leitha, Paula
and Sharon attended the Seniors
Vote Rally and CARP Fredericton
Flag Raising event held in the
Boardroom at Fredericton City
Hall. Madeline Gaudet chaired this
event; speakers included Penny
Ericson and Suzanne Maltais. The focus of this rally was to bring attention to the
need for a national seniors’ strategy on income inequality, health care, income
and retirement security and accessible housing; national programs for homecare
and pharmacare; improvement to CPP, OAS, GIS; and access to affordable and
supportive housing as well as assisted living.
This Rally was just the beginning. There are
four areas of concerns as listed above.
Perhaps we can choose one of these
concerns and investigate further, gather
information, talk with the appropriate
people, ask the important questions and
identify some (or even one) actions. Perhaps
this is another “get together” group of
“Wine/Cheese/Desserts/Seniors Care Get
Together. Please email me ([email protected]) so we might strategize the
next step.
Reminder: Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence is collecting
previously used cell phones which will be given to women in transition houses
thus giving them access to 911 if needed. Please bring your previously used cell
phones to the Wednesday, October 28, CFUW Fredericton General Meeting.
Analog phones cannot be accepted as this system is no longer operational.

New Brunswick:
CFUW Fredericton and CFUW Saint John members March in the World March of
Women NB reminding people that CFUW Fredericton Wants You to VOTE.
The introduction to the 2015 World March of Women NB Demands paper states
“We recognize these lands—the homelands of Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik and
Passamaquoddy sisters here today—as unceded territories. We stand in solidarity
with the struggles of women locally and around the globe for a more equal and
just world. We march for a society that ensures freedom, equality and dignity for
all. We march for an economy based on the values of feminism, ecology and
solidarity, focused on the common good and the well-being of all our
communities. We march for a world free of all forms of violence and for the
respect of reproductive choice, sexual orientation and gender identity. We march
for reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples, to build and
maintain relationships based on mutual respect. We march for equal rights and
opportunities for immigrants, refugees and migrant workers.”
