NBS GALA – RAISING $1,000,000
FOR STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
This March, Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) invites you to join us for the
Steampunk Gala, an opportunity to celebrate the School’s achievements and to
raise funds to support the gifted students of the Professional Ballet Program,
ensuring that talent remains the sole criterion for entry.
Since its opening in 1931, The Carlu has hosted high society events that spotlight
some of the greatest performers of the 20th century, and NBS is honored to contribute
to this grand tradition. We look forward to adding a bit of whimsy with our Steampunk
theme, and intend on shaking things up this year.
WHAT IS
STEAMPUNK? Mixing Old and New
Steampunk is a retro futuristic genre
that celebrates all the steam-powered
machinery advancements of the Victorian
age; a whimsical fusion of usable
modern technology, and the design
aesthetic and values from an era gone.
Steampunk is much more than a simple
aesthetic. It’s a philosophy for life that
is unapologetically optimistic. It calls
upon the past for the inspiration to
build a better future, and encourages
us to free ourselves of limiting inequities.
Steampunk defies time and space to
empower individuals to explore their
own creativity.
So, bring along your old-time alter
egos, your monocles and top hats,
and join us as we celebrate the past,
present and future of Canada’s
National Ballet School.
March 4, 2016
EXPECT THE
UNEXPECTED.
A new late-night lounge and entertainment festival complement the tradition of
the grand cocktail reception and savoury four-course meal. The inventive theme
encourages guests to celebrate and re-imagine the spirited rebellion of the industrial
revolution. The live ballet performance by the talented professional program students
inspires a fresh perspective on art from a bygone era.
Funds raised at the Gala support the nearly 75% of NBS students who require financial
assistance – this is an exciting opportunity to help provide the critical funds needed to
support their dreams. We invite you to join an elite group of long-time supporters for
this fun and memorable event that is sure to provide an unforgettable experience for
clients and friends.
More than fifty-six years after the School first opened, NBS continues to demonstrate
the relevance of dance to improving quality of life for people of all ages and abilities.
Whether by preparing elite, Olympic-calibre dancers for professional careers or by
demonstrating the value of dance for public health, NBS delivers extraordinary feats
every day!
Your support as a Sponsor or Table Purchaser makes all this possible.

“Reuven International Ltd. is an avid
NBS supporter, and celebrates their
selection process for students, which is
based on merit, not the ability to pay.
This encourages the development of
the best talent and the growth of a vibrant
and healthy art. The Gala in support of
the School’s professional program is by far
one of the best and most exciting events
of the year! The event is elegant and
enjoyable with incredible performances
and wonderful post dinner entertainment,
including a fabulous casino.”

“As a national company and first time
sponsor of Canada’s National Ballet
School’s ‘Affair to Remember’ Gala, we
found the benefits of our participation
were easily worth the investment. First
and foremost, the opportunity for Cotton
Candy to be associated with such an
important and renowned institution
during its most prominent fundraising
initiative was a huge honour for our proud
Canadian company. In a tangible sense,
along with those of our impressive fellow
sponsors, our logo received national
exposure in pre and post full page ads
in the Globe and Mail. Additionally, our
contribution was suitably acknowledged
in the evening’s high quality programme
for all in attendance – some of the most
influential people in corporate Canada – to
appreciate. We didn’t hesitate to indicate
our intention to sign on again for 2016.”

A PARTNERSHIP THAT INCREASES YOUR
COMPANY’S COMMUNITY PROFILE AND
PROVIDES SUPPORT TO CANADA’S MOST
TALENTED DANCERS-IN-TRAINING.
Last year, thanks to more than 450 diverse individuals and organizations, the NBS
Gala raised nearly $940,000 to support the most talented young dancers in pursuit
of their dreams.
Help the 2016 Steampunk Gala set a new milestone for NBS by raising $1,000,000.
Please join this valued group of supporters and strengthen your business relationships
through brand exposure, client and staff entertainment, and networking. You and your
company will benefit from extended exposure through a selection of benefits and
promotional efforts directed toward your clients and industry peers.
THE IMPACT OF THIS PARTNERSHIP WILL
ECHO LONG AFTER THE GALA EVENING.
Your support will not only transform the lives of young dancers, helping them
reach the national and international spotlight, but it will also play a pivotal role in
fostering widespread dance education initiatives that promote health and well-being.
Student financial assistance is the School’s area of greatest need. Each and
every student at NBS is subsidized – tuition fees cover only one quarter of the
actual cost required to train and develop these world-class dancers. In addition,
approximately 75% of all families require further financial assistance in order to
cover the costs associated with tuition, residence, travel and other expenses.
WITH YOUR SUPPORT,
CANADA’S MOST
TALENTED DANCERS
WILL MOVE THE WORLD.

ABOUT CANADA’S NATIONAL BALLET SCHOOL
A Global Leader in Professional Dance Training
COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
Since 1959, Canada’s National Ballet
School (NBS) has led the creation
and evolution of dance programs
for Canadian and international youth.
NBS is recognized as one of the
world’s top professional ballet training
institutions – the only ballet academy in
North America to provide expert dance
training, academic instruction and
residential care on the same campus.
NBS invites the most focused, athletic
and creative students to pursue their
dreams of becoming tomorrow’s
innovative dance artists.
From the beginning, NBS has remained
steadfast in our guiding principle that
“talent is the sole criterion for entry,”
ensuring every child has access to
the highest level of training regardless
of family finances or geography. By
removing cost as a barrier, many of
the dance world’s brightest stars have
risen from NBS to inspire audiences in
Toronto, around Canada and in more
than 80 companies around the world.
Whether training elite, Olympic-calibre
dancers or promoting physical activity,
wellness and creative expression
through accessible community
programs, NBS is committed to
demonstrating the relevance of
dance to improving quality of life.
NBS builds community through dance with
a number of high quality programs for fun,
fitness, and quality of life. The Associates
Program (for ages 6 to 17) and Adult Ballet
Program (for ages 18-87) include 400
children and 700 adults who study in NBS
studios each year. Three flagship NBS
programs demonstrate the transformative
power of dance in the community.
PROFESSIONAL BALLET PROGRAM
NBS’ Professional Ballet Program
provides full-time ballet and academic
training to students from Grade 6
through Post-Secondary. The unique
pedagogy integrates elements from
the best in progressive and acclaimed
classical ballet and contemporary
dance training methods in order to
take students from the earliest stages
of dance training through to their
professional careers.
TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM
Several full-time and part-time
programs are offered for dance majors
and professional dancers aspiring to
careers as dance teachers or ballet
masters. All graduates receive an NBS
Teaching Diploma and either RAD or
Cecchetti qualifications. Also available—
joint degree programs with York
University (Toronto) or Simon
Fraser University (Vancouver).

experienced by those living with
