We believe that discipleship is a way of life. We strive to show that we are committed disciples, eager to welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and comfort the bereaved. Inspired by God’s word and nourished by the Eucharist, we pledge ourselves to active discipleship all for God’s greater glory and honor. TUITION ANGEL FUND As we know, the downturn of the economy in recent years has had a tremendous impact on all of us. Many families who have students in Catholic schools feel the ever increasing pressures of meeting their family's needs along with the additional impact of tuition. We here at Saint Joseph Academy have established a "Tuition Angel Fund". The purpose of the fund is to help families who are struggling financially yet are committed to providing their child(ren) with a Catholic education. We look to our parishioners to help us keep this vital resource available to the young families of our parish. Please consider making regular donations to this fund knowing that you are helping spread the word of God through your generosity by supporting some very needy families and their children in Saint Joseph Academy. Donations may also be made in memory of a loved one or a friend with an acknowledgement being sent to their family. We even have children that look to share their blessings by asking their families to make donations to the "Tuition Angel" fund instead of receiving presents at birthdays, holidays, etc. Also, if your resources are such, please consider "adopting" a student, thus supporting a student(s) by paying all or part of the monthly tuition. We have many single parents and families who desperately would like their child to attend Saint Joseph Academy but do not have the resources to pay. Please feel free to add your check to the weekly Vestibule Area-lection basket in an envelope clearly marked "Tuition Angel" or contact the school office for more information at 201-487-8641. May God bless your generosity. Your donations can truly make a difference in a young child's life. [email protected] SJA Spotlight Pre-K 4 Mrs. Saccoccio and Mrs. Barcon Pre-K 4 is ready for Spring! After months and months of cold weather, Pre-K 4 was ready to start preparing for one of our favorite holidays, St. Patrick’s Day! Our students love to participate in “hands-on” activities, and especially enjoyed our latest activity of learning about rainbows. Students learned to identify the colors of the rainbow, and were introduced to new vocabulary words such as prism, light, and sun. To conclude our lesson on rainbows, each student made their own rainbow out of something they found to be both fun and delicious…fruit loops! Students sorted the cereal by color and then created their own beautiful rainbows! A little child in church watched as the ushers passed the offering plate. When they neared the pew where he sat, the youngster piped up so that everyone could hear. 'Don't pay for me Daddy. I'm under five.' ********* After a church service on Sunday morning, a young boy suddenly announced to his mother, 'I've decided to become a minister when I grow up.' 'That's okay with us, but what made you decide that?' 'Well,' said the little boy, 'I have to go to church on Sunday anyway, and I figure it will be more fun to stand up and yell, than to sit and listen.' ********** A 6-year-old was overheard reciting the Lord's Prayer at a church service. 'And forgive us our trash passes, as we forgive those who passed trash against us.' Page 6 RAISED UP BY THE MESSIAH Last week, when Jesus referred to the destruction of the temple, the account from today’s first reading is what would have come to the minds of his listeners. But, as Jesus was speaking on a deeper level, so does today’s first reading. In the first paragraph we hear that Israel had, in effect, “fallen” already through its infidelity to the covenant. Lest we get too cozy, this account reminds us that God, though just, loving, and merciful, is capable of punishing sin when that sin is unrepentant. But we are also reminded that God, rich in mercy, anoints individuals to be vessels of salvation as well (in Hebrew, King Cyrus of Persia is called “messiah”). In the Gospel reading, we hear of another Messiah being “lifted up” for our salvation in one of the best‑known passages from the New Testament. As Lent concludes and we enter Holy Week, we need to keep our gaze steadfast upon the cross of Christ, the Son of God who came into the world to raise us who had fallen. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The wrath and the mercy of the Lord are revealed in the exile and liberation of the chosen people (2 Chronicles 36:1416, 19-23) or 1 Samuel 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a. Psalm — Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you! (Psalm 137) or Psalm 23. Second Reading — By grace you have been saved (Ephesians 2:410) or Ephesians 5:8-14. Gospel -The Son was sent by God so that the world might be saved through him (John 3:14-21) or John 9:1-41 [1, 6-9, 13-17, 34-38]. (Efesios 2:4-10) o Efesios 5:8-14. Evangelio — Dios nos dio su Hijo único, para que todo el que crea en él tenga vida eterna (Juan 3:14-21) o Juan 9:1-41 [1, 6-9, 13-17, 34-38].
