There’s Value at the Valley Trinity Valley Community College is a public, two-year, post-secondary institution offering freshmen-level and sophomore-level courses in arts and sciences, as well as vocational and occupational/technical education. TVCC has been named by The Aspen Institute as one of the nation’s top 10 percent of community colleges for the past two years. TVCC was one of only eight Texas colleges to make the institute’s list of top schools in 2012. TVCC ranks well below the Texas state average on student tuition rates. The college also has one of the lowest tax rates in the state. TVCC operates on a semester system, offering four per year as well as several Fast Track class sessions. TVCC is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to confer the Associate of Arts, the Associate of Applied Science and Certificate of Completion. TVCC’s service district includes all or part of Anderson, Henderson, Kaufman, Rains and Van Zandt counties. The college’s tax district includes the Athens, Brownsboro, Crandall, Cross Roads, Eustace, Frankston, Kaufman, Kemp, LaPoynor, Mabank, Malakoff, Murchison, Palestine, Scurry-Rosser, Terrell and Trinidad independent school districts. The TVCC faculty prides itself on being accessible to students. Whether it is in class, during office hours or online, students in TVCC courses can communicate directly with their instructors. Students can take advantage of our 25:1 ratio of full-time faculty to students in order to easily get help inside and outside of class. More than 83 percent of the institution’s courses are taught by full-time faculty, versus 69.7 percent on the average for other Texas two-year schools similar in size. TVCC has 157 full-time faculty. Through the TVCC Foundation, the college offered more than $100,000 in scholarships in Fall 2012. The institution also offers a variety of state and federal aid as well as institutional scholarships. Aid eligibility is based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 17 Rodeo team students have been ranked regionally and nationally. TVCC hosts a home rodeo each February. The college’s Beef Cattle Show Team also regularly brings home top awards and has won the Charolais Good Herdsman Award at the Houston Livestock Show for the past 12 years. The Cardinal Cheerleaders were the first junior college team to compete and win in the National Cheerleaders Association national finals. The group recently celebrated its 65th anniversary. Since the first championship in 1989, the team has brought home nine NCA championship titles. The Cardinal Regiment and Wildcard Swing Orchestra routinely produce All-State performers and compete in various state festivals. The Regiment has performed in places such as Branson, Mo., the State Fair of Texas, Washington, D.C., and in Dublin, Ireland. In 2010, the TVCC Cardettes celebrated 50 years of entertaining Cardinal fans. The group has traveled around the world, including trips to Washington, D.C., Hawaii, Switzerland, Moscow, the Mediterranean, and Ireland. The TVCC Choir has earned international recognition and performed around the world. Students involved with the program have traveled to such places as Ireland, Italy, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. TVCC is a member of the Southwest Junior College Football Conference and the Region XIV Athletic Conference. Men participate in football and basketball. Lady Cardinal teams include basketball, softball and volleyball. TVCC sports teams are known for regularly appearing in regional tournaments. Cardinal Football holds two national championships and the Lady Cardinals Basketball team has earned six national titles. Trinity Valley Community College was founded in 1946 as Henderson County Junior College. It was renamed in September 1986. Today, TVCC is a multi-campus institution with the following facilities located around the service area: TVCC-Athens (1946) TVCC-Palestine (1972) TVCC-Terrell (1973) TVCC Health Science Center-Kaufman (1983) Systemwide, TVCC enrolls approximately 8,600 students from 31 states and 16 foreign countries. However, 98.3 percent of students are Texas residents and 84.3 percent are residents of the TVCC service area. Forty percent of students are enrolled full-time. Trinity Valley’s main campus is located in Athens, Texas. The 60-acre campus has 23 buildings, including five residence halls, a modern Learning Resource Center, the 51,000 square-foot Baugh Technology Center, Cardinal Gym, and a student union building.
