But something extremely special happened to designer, builder and now restorer, Stan Johnson. Johnson’s 1965 Silver Bullet roadster was a labor of love. Johnson, his brother, and a good friend built the car, raced in it, and sold it before it finally came back to Johnson nearly half a century later. Originally painted in Axalta Coating System’s Cadillac Firemist Silver paint and restored in the same color, Silver Bullet was constructed to show car standards, but it wasn’t just another pretty face. Johnson began racing it at a small town drag strip before competitively racing and setting the gas “B” class modified roadster national record. It also earned many of the industry’s “best engineered awards.” After Johnson sold the car in 1969, it was purchased by a Canadian and toured the European show circuit. 30 years later, photos of various parts of the car appeared on the Internet. Johnson recognized the unique small rear window that he placed in the car. Johnson’s passion and perseverance led him on a decade long journey to get Silver Bullet back to one piece. After years of searching, Johnson found many of the missing parts and purchased the vehicle from its new owner. He completed reconstruction in 2014 and now the reloaded Silver Bullet is making its way around the car show circuit across the country. www. axaltaracing.com • Facebook.com/OfficialAxaltaRacing • Twitter: @AxaltaRacing • www.facebook.com/StanJohnsonSilverBullet ©2014 Axalta Coating Systems.
