Ahhh…a new month, a new year! Happy 2016! We have so much
planned for this year and it begins and ends with you—our members!
F & M Trust
Right out of the gate, I want to invite you all to take part in the one-day
seminar we are offering on January 20th at Rhodes Grove Conference
Center. This day promises to be engaging, thought-provoking,
stimulating and useful! If you really want to start this year off on the
right foot, I urge you to call us today and make reservations for the
seminar on The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. Led by Rick Capozzi of
the Capozzi group, this seminar will explore the best-selling book
written by Patrick Lencioni that has revolutionized the way companies
do business. More information about the seminar can be found inside
this newsletter.

Having just survived my first Heritage Christmas, I’ve learned a thing
or two about teamwork recently myself! First though, a HUGE thank
you to everyone who participated in Heritage Christmas—from our
sponsors to our volunteers. By all accounts, we had a great year! Now,
back to teamwork. I recently asked for suggestions on how to promote
local business everyday—not just on Shop Small Saturday. We had a
great suggestion from a reader and are in the process of putting
together a “Living Locally” campaign that rewards residents and
businesses for patronizing local companies. We are excited to roll out
some new initiatives including Chamber dollars, discount rewards and
some great events that put the spotlight on the Greencastle-Antrim
community.
We’d love to hear more from you—our members. Shortly, you will be
receiving a short survey through Survey Monkey that is aimed at
finding out what YOU want us to be doing this year. Please, when the
survey arrives, take a moment (OK—five minutes!) to fill it out and send
it back. We will publish the results in February’s newsletter and your
opinion really does matter!
Here’s to a great start!

Congratualtions to SpiriTrust Lutheran
Home Care & Hospice on Receiving a
Patient Satisfaction Award of Distinction
SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice has been named a national best practice agency by Fazzi
Associates based on overall patient satisfaction results for the year 2014. The Award of Distinction is
presented to home health organizations that have demonstrated superior performance in patient
satisfaction, measured by the Home Health Care Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and
Systems (HHCAHPS), a survey designed to measure the experiences of people receiving home health care
from Medicare-certified home health agencies. Based on a comparative analysis of agencies involved in
Fazzi Associates’ HHCAHPS system for the past year, the agency’s results for the Overall Satisfaction and
Likelihood of Recommending survey questions place them in the top 25 percent of Fazzi’s National Patient
Satisfaction database. According to Fazzi Associates, agencies named as national best practice agencies are
proven leaders and have excelled in one of the most important measures of an agency’s quality program –
patient satisfaction. “Client satisfaction is extremely important to us”, remarked Terry Shade, CEO of
SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice. “Our staff work very hard to meet the needs of our clients in a
manner that is professional and respectful and exhibits a high degree of compassion for each individual's
situation. This award belongs to these wonderful, caring people and I consider it a great honor to have the
opportunity to work with them.”
Approved by CMS as a Home Health CAHPS (HHCAHPS) and Hospice CAHPS survey vendor, Fazzi
Associates is one of the oldest, largest, and most respected organizations of its kind dedicated to home care
and hospice. Their Patient/Family Satisfaction service is one of the largest satisfaction benchmark services in the country. SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice provides home health care, home health
telemonitoring, palliative care, hospice, and in-home support services. The agency serves south central
through northeastern Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. For further information, or to start care,
please call (800) 840-9081 or visit www.SpiriTrustLutheranHomeCare.org.

Manager's Corner™: Stop It!
by Liz Weber, CMC, CSP
I believe it’s good practice to regularly sit back and identify things to stop doing. If we
don’t regularly stop doing things that are no longer helpful, how can we expect to change,
grow, and be better leaders? So here are some things you might need to stop doing:
1 – Stop Behaving and Communicating Immaturely:
I was cc’d on an email today from a client’s Marketing Director to her leadership team. She was whining
to her team because four goals on the organization’s strategic plan will fall to her to lead, and they’re all
due within the next six months! Oh my goodness right? Yeah, well three of the goals are not all that
time-consuming and they’re things this Director should have had in place already, but that’s a different
issue. The point is by whining in an email to the leadership team, her credibility has plummeted. Her
narcissistic outlook, childish language, and lack of understanding of the truly big issues facing her company came through loud and clear. Instead of behaving as a professional leadership team member and
maturely requesting an extension on one or two of the goals, she behaved and communicated as if she
were a whiny child. She’s just lost the respect of her leadership team. Before you express your frustrations,
consider the impact on your reputation if you express them immaturely.
2 – Stop Criticizing Others When You Haven’t Grown as a Leader Yourself:
What specifically have you learned to do differently that has helped you grow as a leader? As a result,
what specifically do you do – regularly – that indicates you’ve grown? If you can’t answer those two
questions, you’ve lost the right to criticize any member of your team for not developing new skills or
enhancing his or her current skills and behaviors. As a leader it’s crucial that you continuously model for
your team what it looks like to be a continually evolving member of your team. If you expect your team
members to continually enhance their skills, you need to be in front modeling for your team how you do
it. Before you criticize others, ensure others can not criticize you.
3 – Stop Avoiding Taking Ownership of Your Wasted Productivity:
So many of us are so busy being busy, we lose focus on what’s the best use of our time. As a result, we
waste time and we don’t take ownership of our own behavior. We make excuses such as, “Well that’s what
she asked me to do.” or “Oh, it doesn’t really take much time.” Starting today, take ownership of your
actions. As you move through your various tasks, before you start each task, ask yourself one or more of
these questions:
 Why am I doing this? Does it really matter?
 Who is this going to benefit by me doing this or am I doing this just because I always have?
 How will this generate more business, profits, productivity, engagement, customer loyalty, market
share, or brand awareness?
 Given the resources needed to do this task, are the outcomes worth the effort?
If you’re doing things simply because they’re in front of you, it’s time to stop. Stop wasting your time.
Start taking ownership of your time, your work, and your productivity.
As you identify things to stop, visualize the specific alternative actions you need to start taking. Then, do
them to maintain your teams respect, model desired behaviors, and enhance your productivity. Stop so
you can be the leader your team expects and respects.
