Rental forms are available on the web site. Readington Recreation Rocks the Summer... Spring is here and residents are already counting the days till summer vacation. Readington Recreation has fabulous programs for residents of all ages this summer. Now is the time to start thinking about how much fun you are going to have this summer!! The Summer Recreation program for children ages 414, runs from June 22nd until July 31st. Specialty Camps including Theatre, Art, Science, Fencing, Soccer, Golf, Tennis, Multi-S-ports and much more are offered in the month of August. Firefly Afterschool Tennis for children ten and under was so popular last summer at Whitehouse School after Rec Camp, we have scheduled a Soccer Camp at Holland Brook School after Rec Camp as well this year. As with the Whitehouse Tennis class, campers who stay all day need only be picked up when soccer camp is done at 7pm. Younger players who would like to participate can be dropped off for the evening program which runs one week in July. Friday Night Basketball moves to Thursday Nights in Pickell Park in June & July. Preschool Tennis, Soccer, & T-Ball Squirt programs are scheduled to run in June & July as well. For coaches who need Rutgers SAFTEY certification we will be offering a clinic on July 22nd. Of course the Community Garden is open for business, and will soon be providing wonderful fresh produce. SUMMER DISCOUNT TICKETS to all of your favorite parks are now available in the Recreation office. Tickets can be used any time during the season, and make great gifts for friends and family. Travel Soccer Try Outs are scheduled for early May. Go to the Travel Soccer web site to register. The Readington Recreation Department is always looking for ideas for new recreation programs and services. READINGTON RECREATION Page 2 Rutgers SAFETY Clinic Wednesday, July 22nd A Requirement for ALL Readington Coaches Join us Wednesday, July 22nd at 6:30pm, in room 304 at the Readington Middle School. You must preregister using the adult registration form on the web site to attend. The class is free for Readington Recreation coaches, the fee is $40 for coaches from other organizations. TRAVEL SOCCER TRY OUTS As is the case with all NJ travel soccer programs, tryouts take place this spring to create the teams that will play next Fall/Spring. The Readington Travel Soccer Club Fall 2015-Spring 2016 Tryout Schedule is now available on our website. The tryout period will be in early May. Our progressive T-Ball curriculum enables each child to develop their skills, and understanding of the game. Using safe and developmentally appropriate equipment, core components of T-Ball are learned through a series of fun games and activities designed to reinforce fundamental skills and incorporate game situations. Cardio Tennis provides a full body workout by combining, simple body strength activities with a range of tennis skills, all in a fun, social environment. No tennis experience is necessary to take part, simply the desire to stay in shape and have fun on the tennis court. Cost: $289 6 weeks The Readington Tennis Team caters to experienced players looking to take their game to the next level. With weekly instruction from a USPTA certified coach players will work towards refining key skills such as stroke mechanics, footwork, shot placement and decision making, in an effort to enhance performance at a competitive level. Aerobic Exercise-Core Strength Footwork-Balance & Agility Racquet Skills-Tennis to Music TENNIS LESSONS Ages 15+ Location: Pickell Park Cost: $140 7 weeks Date: Sat. 6/13-7/25, no class 7/4 Beginners Level I 9:00am-10:00am Advanced Beginners Level II 10:00-11:00am Instructors: Firefly Level I: For students with limited or no experience playing tennis. Tennis instruction include proper grips, footwork and conventional techniques for groundstrokes, net play and serves will be introduced., basic court positioning and how to keep the score. Level II: For students with some formal tennis training in the past or successfully played regular games & matches. You should be able to hit most of your groundstrokes into the opposite court, know how to volley, but may struggle making serves into the proper service box. Less time will be spent introducing basic stroke mechanics than the beginner class. Instead your core technique flaws will be detected and corrected while drilling from all positions on the court. The class will emphasize developing consistency while having to move shots and in hitting stoke combinations. THURSDAY NIGHT BASKETBALL *Entering grades 4-8 Day: Thursdays, 6/25-7/30 6 weeks (rain date 8/6) Location: Pickell Park Times: 6:00-7:30pm or 7:30-9:00pm Cost: $145.00 Trainers: US Sports Ideal for children who want to learn improve their basketball skills in a low pressure, fun environment and a great night off for mom & dad. The main focus Thursday Night Basketball is to develop a well rounded understanding of the game through exciting games and drills. Professional Coaches will teach the basic techniques of dribbling, passing, shooting and defense through a series of inclusive group activities. Each week the last hour will be devoted to small sided, game realistic scrimmages, allowing each player the chance to showcase newly learned kills during structured team play. Smaller courts, lighter and lower bouncing balls, and smaller and lighter racquets make it easy and fun for our little players to hit and play right from the start! Take home a unique rock and mineral collection that you will learn about in the program, a rock and mineral book, unearthed treasures, fossilized shark teeth, and crystals. Have you ever wanted to travel to Mars? In this new program, students will discover Mars and all of it’s unique features and then design and build a robotic rover in hopes of clearing the surface for a new colony. You will research NASA space exploration to Mars, and then work with motors, solar panels, sensors, remote controls, and a wide array of other materials to create a robotic rover. You will then participate in a timed robotic contest to try and clear the surface in the least amount of time. Have fun as you learn about astronomy, engineering, Super Science Staff NEW CREATIVE THEATRE Ages 7-11 Have you ever wanted to star in a play you helped create? Join us this summer, as students learn all about theatre by doing it themselves! Children are guided, by the instructors, through a process where they play theatre games, create a story, and work together to make that story into a working theatrical production. The participants create their own character, plot, props, costumes, title, and everything else that's needed to make the production complete. You get to play the part you have always dreamed of! The final day is a performance of their original play for parents, family, and anyone else who wishes to come. Students learn basic terminology of fencing, develop motor skills, reflexes, and coordination necessary to the basic skills of fencing which include: Position, Basic Footwork, Offense, Defense, and Tactics, improve their general physical condition, develop mental discipline, practice good sportsmanship, practice safe fencing, and learn to apply the rules of fencing. Campers will receive a t-shirt and certificate. This camp is dedicated to children of all sporting ability. The municipal building is open 8:30am-4:30pm Mon.-Fri. If the Recreation Office is closed, please drop your registration in the mail box to the right of the Recreation office door. Parade Volunteers We are looking for volunteers too march in the parade– scouts or clubs, veterans, etc. bring your classic cars, convertibles and create your own floats.
