We hope you are having a great summer, and plan to join Readington Recreation for a fabulous fall! Join us Friday, September 11th from 6-8pm for our Tennis Open House in Pickell Park. Lots of fun games, activities, and give-a-ways for the whole family. Meet our instructors and enjoy free tennis clinics. A registration table for fall tennis programs will be set up. A detailed schedule of events can be found on page 8. Fall sports registration has already begun. Please do not wait until it is too late to participate. Registration forms for fall sports can be found on the Readington Recreation web site and at Art Classes will begin again at the Dobozynski Cottage in September. These classes sell out, so please register early if you want to participate. This Fall we have two fitness classes for your enjoyment in addition to our regular Karate class, Cardio Tennis (pg7) is one of the country’s newest aerobic fitness trends. The class provides a full body workout and no tennis experience is necessary. We are also offering a Self Defense Class (pg7) on Monday nights at the Holland Brook School. This class sold out last year, so register early if you would like to participate. Readington Township has beautiful parks, trails, museums, and open space for exploration this fall. Information can be found on the Readington Township website, www.readingtontwp.org. The Readington Recreation Department is always looking for ideas for new recreation programs and services. If you have an idea or would like to volunteer your services please contact the Department of Recreation at 908-5349752. NEW HIGH SCHOOL Tennis Challenge! Date: Wednesdays 9/16-10/28 7 weeks Location: Pickell Park East Whitehouse ballfield and playground. Instructor: USPTA certified professional coach High School Tennis Challange (coed grades 912) will work towards refinement of fundamental technique while developing a thorough tactical knowledge of both the singles and doubles game. Advanced shots - including spin, lob and drop shots - will be intro- expanding each player's ability to perform point winning strokes during match play situations. On-court conditioning, speed and agility work will be incorporated into each class. This class is for high intermediate and advanced players only. All players must provide their own racquet. Time: Beginners Level I 9:00am-10:00am Adv Beginners Level II 10:00-11:00am Cost: $140 7 weeks Instructors: Wednesday USA Sports Saturday Antonio Neacsu Level I: For students with limited or no experience playing tennis. Tennis instruction include proper grips, footwork and conventional techniques for groundstrokes, net play and serves will be introduced, basic court positioning and how to keep the score. Level II: For students with some formal tennis training in the past or successfully played regular games & matches. You should be able to hit most of your groundstrokes into the opposite court, know how to volley, but may struggle making serves into the proper service box. Less time will be spent introducing basic stroke mechanics than the beginner class. Instead your core technique flaws will be detected and corrected while drilling from all positions on the court. Our program offers a variety of games and activities to promote maximum learning and enjoyment. This program targets beginner to intermediate players. TENNIS TEAM grades 5-8 *4th graders who are 10 years old and have previous full court tennis experience may register for the team. Parents please note the team will practice on a full size court. Dates: Wednesday, 9/17-10/29 Time: 6:15pm-7:45pm Location: Pickell Park Coach: USPTA certified professional coach Cost: $329 The Readington Tennis Team caters to experienced players looking to take their game to the next level. With weekly instruction from a USPTA certified coach, players will work towards refining key skills such as stroke mechanics, footwork, shot placement and decision making, in an effort to enhance performance at a competitive level. Development Play Tennis Ages 8-14 Dates: Wednesday, 9/16-10/28, 7 weeks Time: 5:00-6:00pm Cost: $140 Location: Pickell Park Instructor US Sports This program targets beginner to intermediate players. The main focus of the class is developing basic shot techniques and skills. Time will also be dedicated to developing the children’s ability to participate in full match play. Students will be grouped by age and ability. All Participants will receive expert instruction, thorough individual evaluation and a team shirt to wear during match play. Participants will be prepared to enter local tournaments and competitions and be provided with a schedule of events. The coach will provide guidance for players when deciding which level of play is appropriate. Students will work using pencil, charcoal, and paints on a variety of fun projects designed to sharpen artistic skills in the areas of drawing, color theory, composition, and painting technique. Japanese Anime, Comic Book Heroes, Dragon Ball Z, the X-Men, this class has it all. Learn how to draw your favorite characters from sketch to finished art. Develop your own characters and learn to draw your favorites. FIELD HOCKEY Grades 2-8 2-4th grade Field Hockey travel league will practice mid week and on Sunday afternoons. The league starts at the end of August and runs until the end of October. NEW- 5-8th graders will be joining a new travel full field league. Games are held on Sunday's. No information on practice times/locations yet. Details coming soon. Registration will begin early July. Fencing Clinic Grades 3-8 Date: Mon, 9/21-10/26, 6 weeks Time: 6:00-7:00pm Beginner Location: Whitehouse School Cost: $165.00 Instructor: Medeo Fencing Fencing is a sport of strategy and skill. Students learn the basic terminology of fencing, develop motor skills, reflexes, and coordination necessary to the basic skills of fencing which include: Position, Basic Footwork, Offense, Defense, and Tactics, improve their general physical condition, develop mental discipline, practice good sportsmanship, safe fencing, and learn to apply the rules of fencing. All equipment provided. Class size limited, register early. Children will learn how to cradle, shoot, catch, scoop and scrimmage with maximum enjoyment. Lacrosse Squirts is a great way to play one of America's fastest growing sports and will encourage all involved to become a lifelong fan of lacrosse. Every child will be participating at all times and the coaches will motivate all to succeed. All equipment is provided for the Lacrosse Squirts programs. Each Soccer Squirts session focuses on maximizing participation and learning through a variety of fun games designed to stimulate a child's imagination and develop motor skills. Rutgers SAFETY Clinic A Requirement for ALL Readington Coaches A class is scheduled on Tuesday, October 6th at 6:30pm, in room 304 at the Readington Middle School. You must preregister using the adult registration form on the web site to attend. The class is free for Readington Recreation coaches, the fee is $40 for coaches from other organizations. AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS After School Tennis - Ages 5-9 6 Week Sessions at Whitehouse School & Three Bridges School Dates: Mondays, 9/14-10/19 Whitehouse 10/26-12/7 (no class 11/2) Thursday, 9/17-10/22 Three Bridges 10/29-12/17 (no class 11/5 & 11/26) 10 and under tennis in an convenient location. Smaller courts, lighter and lower bouncing balls, and smaller and lighter racquets make it easy and fun for our little players to hit and play right from the start!
