Over 75 years of European train expertise and always on track.
See the Real Europe with Rail Europe
Traveling by train enhances your entire European experience:
from genuine interactions with locals to relaxing journeys and
no wasted time at airports. With quiet gazing through panoramic
windows as you’re whisked from city-center to city-center. With
gourmet dining and no hassles. Is it any wonder trains are so
popular? For access to the most choices and best rates, make
sure you book in advance. Because a little bit of planning can
mean a lot more traveling.
“I think the best thing about taking the train is that there are a lot of people
from all over the place traveling on the train and you meet people from different
countries and if you talk to them you learn about their culture. I actually made
friends with a fellow traveler from Turkey; I mean I never would’ve done that
” – Eling
if I hadn’t taken the train.
Because Some Stops Are Never Expected
The European railroads’ policy is that no rail pass or
ticket is refundable or replaceable if lost or stolenbut at Rail Europe, we don’t believe you can have a
great vacation if you can’t completely relax. That’s
why we offer the Rail Protection Plan™. In addition to
protecting your rail pass or ticket if it is lost or stolen in
Europe, the Rail Protection Plan provides compensation
if you should need to cancel or exchange your pass or
ticket due to a medical illness or death. It also provides
compensation if your trip is interrupted or stopped due
to a rail strike. For the complete Rail Protection
Plan policy please refer to the “About Us” tab on
the raileurope.com home page.

Simplicity is in our DNA
With 35 different railway systems, it’s much easier for the North
American traveler to ride the rails than plan their own trip
on them. That’s why we’re here. We offer a unified booking
experience across Europe, with the ability to package products
from different carriers.
And we have special relationships with carriers that started over
75 years ago, relationships that have led to special agreements
benefiting our clients. Including technology that enables us to
offer and sell more travel options than any other vendor.
It’s simple. With Rail Europe you don’t have to sort out the details,
we already have.

Part of every Rail Europe view; a greener future.
The train brings out our best. It’s relaxing. It’s serene. It’s
intimate. It opens us to everything the journey has to offer
the simple pleasures of personally connecting with other people
and cultures.
We also believe part of that serenity comes from knowing the train
is a low-impact form of travel that preserves the authenticity of the
regions and natural beauty we pass through. In fact, high speed
trains are three times as energy efficient as regional trains, but
even the slowest train is 25% more energy-efficient than cars.

Top of Europe and Ticino
This 5-day / 4-night Swiss rail and hotel package takes you from
glaciers to palm trees and includes rail travel to Interlaken or
Grindelwald, an excursion to the mountain peak of Jungfraujoch
and travel to Lugano; the sunny side of the Alps.
Hello from Online & On-board
Paris Pass
I love sharing the joy of discovery. And while I’ve always been an
enthusiastic world traveler, I’m particularly excited to share with you
my latest experience - the new territory of social media.
The Paris Pass is a smart-chip card that gives you free reign on
public transportation in central Paris and priority entry to major
museums and monuments. Available for 2, 4, or 6 consecutive
days, you can choose between the Metro, tramway, a variety of
bus lines, even the Montmartre funicular railway. It all adds up
to easy entry and more ways to get there. You’re going to go to
the Louvre anyway, so why not get special treatment? What about
Notre Dame, or the Musee d’ Orsay? It can even get you discounts
at restaurants and shops.
Perhaps you’ve already seen Rail Europe’s blog “The Telltale Rail.”
It includes trip ideas, first-hand reviews and helpful comments from
interacting fellow travelers. And this year, I’ll even be making the
occasional posting to talk with you directly. Of course, we’re also
on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. And in 2010 Rail Europe will
become accessible on your smartphone, enabling you to check
European train schedules and to book e-tickets. They’re all more
ways for our customers to share their personal experiences.
Central Europe Triangle Pass
The Central Europe Triangle Pass is a great way to see the most
popular cities in Central Europe and get one-way rail travel
between Vienna, Budapest and Prague or Vienna, Prague and
Salzburg. Just choose one of the two rail itineraries, start in the
city of your choice and travel in any direction.
We’re very excited to be a part of the online community of inquisitive
travelers. And while European train travel has always been respected
for having great values environmentally and financially, its social
value cannot be overstated: from spending quality time with family
and friends to the simple pleasure of uninterrupted conversation. To
many of our travelers, that just may be our greatest connection of all.
Rail Europe Online - Your Itinerary Simplified
And where else can you unwind at an astonishing 200-mph? The
high-speed TGV surrounds you with comfortable accommodations,
pleasant company, and picturesque views you simply can’t appreciate
from an airplane or while driving. One of my favorite routes on TGV
is the spectacular journey from Paris to Marseille that clocks in at a
mere 3 hours. Sit back and relax as you pass through the bustling
cityscape of Northern France into the laid-back cosmopolitan
atmosphere of the Mediterranean coast.
Rail Europe takes the guesswork out of your rail booking experience
with our exclusive multi-city search feature. Just type in the cities
you’d like to visit and our European rail booking wizard will provide
you with a list of available products and pricing options so that you
may choose the best option for your travel plans. It’s that simple.
What do I do with my luggage?
When I get to the train station, what do I do with
my ticket or pass?
Storage compartments are available on all trains and are located
at the end of each car and/or above the seats. Pack lightly for
manageability and allow time if you have more than one suitcase
and need to change trains. Please label your luggage to avoid
mix ups, and note that some major train stations do have luggage
storage facilities.
If you already have a ticket, just board the train. To travel with a
pass, the first time you use your pass you must present it with your
passport at the station ticket booth to be validated. Once your pass
has been validated, simply board the train. If you have a Flexipass,
fill in the date of each travel day (Day/Month/Year) before the
conductor comes through the car to check your pass.
Are additional services available at the stations?
What classes of service are available on day trains?
Most stations offer services such as currency exchanges, shops,
information desks, restrooms, restaurants, and more.
Day trains offer either first or second class seating. There is a wide
range of fares in both first and second class, so on our website
we’ve broken the fares down into four separate categories. They are
Economy, Freedom, Comfort and Premier class.
An Economy class ticket may not be exchanged and does not
provide access to the station lounge. On-board the train your seat
will be standard or second class.
A Freedom class ticket can be exchanged and does not allow
access to the station lounge. On-board the train, your seat will be
standard or second class.
A Comfort class ticket may not be exchanged, and does not provide
access to the station lounge. On-board the train your seat will be a
large reclining first class seat.
A Premier class ticket (our best class of service) may be exchanged,
and may give you access to the station lounge. On-board the train,
your seat will be a large reclining first class seat.
What type of compartments or sleeping
accommodations are available on overnight trains?
They vary according to the train and route. The most common
compartments are Singles, Doubles, and Couchettes. Some offer
T3, T4, and Deluxe Sleepers.
A Single is a first-class compartment that contains one bed, a
private washbasin, linens and towels.
A Double is the same as a single with 2 beds (normally bunked).
A Couchette is a very affordable second-class option with 6 bunked
beds and a public washroom.
Your Perfect Group Journey Begins Here.
T3 compartments contain 3 beds, a private washbasin, fresh linens
and towels, and the T4 compartments contains 4 beds plus the
amenities of a T3.
I hope this is the year you decide to join us. And we pledge to
continue to do everything we can to welcome you aboard.
Rail Europe offers rates for groups of 10 or more on rail
passes, point-to-point tickets, high-speed trains & more.
Deluxe Sleepers include a private restroom in your compartment.

Are you on board? Great.
With so many travel and budget choices, where do you start?
Let’s begin with how you like to travel. Are you a planner, or
more of a free spirit? We have great options for both, with expert
advice that includes personalized recommendations and booking
wizardry to get you the right tickets and passes at the best
possible prices.
Do you know the cities where you want to travel? If you’re planning
on visiting just two cities or traveling by rail for less than three days,
a point-to-point ticket might be the right product for you. We also
offer tickets that can be used as airport transfers (available on certain routes) to and from the cities of your destination.
If you know the countries you want to explore but want to wander
within them, we make it easy. Rail passes are the ideal companion for
the adventurous traveler. They’ll allow you to explore one or more
countries and wait until you’re in Europe to decide on the details; to
change plans at will within your country of choice. They’re perfect
for anyone planning to travel for more than three days or who wants
an open itinerary.
All of Europe, at see level.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I travel with a pass?
How do I choose between a pass or
point-to-point tickets?
Your pass entitles you to travel on board the national trains in a
specific geographic area (defined at time of purchase) for a
specific number of days. These days can be “consecutive”
(say, 5 days in a row) or not (you can travel random days within
a longer period of time – up to 2 months).
There are a lot of options, but we make it simple.
If you’re planning on visiting just 2 cities or traveling by train
for less than 3 days, a point-to-point ticket is likely the right
product for you. Tickets are also available for airport transfers to
and from the cities of your destination.
High-speed trains and night trains usually require you to reserve
your seat or sleeper. This can be done through Rail Europe or
locally. Please note that the number of available seats can be
limited, so the earlier you make an advance reservation the better,
especially if traveling at peak times on popular routes.
For itineraries with more than 3 trips, passes are generally the best
value. Or if you’re undecided about where and when to travel you’ll
probably prefer a pass. Reservations are needed for many trains
and can be purchased from Rail Europe before you leave, or locally
in Europe. Seats can be limited, so secure your reservation well in
advance, especially for peak times on popular routes.
For your first day of travel, just head to any railway station and
have your pass validated. Then clearly write the current date
(Day/Month/Year) on your pass; you can use it for the entire day
until midnight. If your first train leaves after 7pm for your overnight
travel, just enter the next day’s date on your pass.
How and when do I get my rail pass/ticket?
You can make your purchase through your travel agent or directly
from Rail Europe (online or by phone). Tickets can be purchased
from 60 to 120 days in advance (depending on the route). But
for the best discounts, the earlier the better (at least one month
in advance). Another benefit: early purchase also ensures you a
seat on the train(s) of your choice during peak season and peak
travel times.
Once on-board, all you have to do is show your pass to the
conductor, along with your reservation when appropriate.
In addition to the many travel benefits a pass already gives you,
simply showing it may qualify you for many trip-enhancement
discounts. You will also be eligible for special pass-holder fares on
high-speed trains. For example, any pass that includes France or
Britain makes you eligible for deeply discounted fares on Eurostar.
6
We offer two types of rail passes: the Consecutive Pass and
Flexipass. The Consecutive Pass provides unlimited rail travel
for however many consecutive days are covered by the duration
of the pass. It’s ideal for anyone expecting to travel by train each
day. The Flexipass is valid for a specific number of days within a
longer period of time (for example, three days within one month).
This offers flexibility in choosing which days are rail travel days.
Additionally, most passes are available in first and second class.
When you take the train you see the beauty of Europe the way
it’s meant to be appreciated. Not only is the panoramic view more
remarkable and intimate, so is the pace–because it’s yours. You’re
freed from the burden of meeting planes or spotting signposts along
the road, whether on the beaten track or off of it. You have the
genuine interactions of travelers instead of tourists–real, authentic
connections with locals beyond that of airport gates, gas stations or
currency exchanges.
Travel by rail is a European travel experience like no other. You’re
going to Europe, so why not see it?

A Single is a first-class compartment that contains one bed, a
private washbasin, linens and towels.
