Press Kit - Andrea Powell
ANDREA POWELL Actress Andrea Powell continues to take ‘the big screen’ by storm, playing opposite Harrison Ford and Viola Davis in the 2013 blockbuster Ender’s Game. She played Theresa Wiggin—mother to Valentine (Abigail Breslin), Peter, and Ender (Asa Butterfield)— in this futuristic film adapted from the well-‐known 1985 sci-‐fi novel by the same name. Andrea is no fledgling in the adventure realm, nabbing the vivacious role of blood-‐sucking vampire Sasha in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. In December 2013, Andrea was also seen opposite Cheri Oteri, Mary Louise Parker, and Andy Garcia in Christmas in Conway, premiering on ABC and Hallmark Hall of Fame. Andrea boasts a wealth of entertainment experience that includes memorable film, television, and theatre roles. She was first trained on the stage, and it is no wonder she holds over 100 theatre credits, including musicals and plays in New York City. Some of her television credits include recurring roles in FX’s Thief and ABC’s summer series The Gates, where she played Karen, the single mother of a teenage werewolf, and guest spots on Lifetime’s Army Wives and NBC’s Surface. Powell’s film credits include roles opposite Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Janet McTeer, and Melissa Leo in The Legend of Bagger Vance, Get Low, Songcatcher, and The Limbo Room, respectively. Raised in Lake City, Florida as the youngest of five, Andrea was an extremely curious and imaginative child. She was heavily influenced by her parents, small business owners who taught her the meaning of following one’s dreams and remaining humble at a young age. Always a top student in academics, she honed in on her artistic interests at the age of 12, with her first acting performance as Oliver in a community production of Oliver!. She continued to pursue acting and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Speech & Theatre from Louisiana State University, with additional training at NYU and the University of Hawaii. In 2008, Andrea—a self described “artistic geek”— took a step outside the acting world and founded web design and development company AndiSites Inc. She built the business from the ground up, expanding from a one-‐person shop to a multi-‐person enterprise with employees and contractors all over the world. AndiSites creates dynamic websites for a variety of clientele including individuals, small businesses, corporations, and universities. She continues to run the company on or off set. Andrea is an avid traveler, a lover of fitness, and a humanitarian. She can often be found cycling or completing triathlons (she’s done seven!). Most notably, Powell has run three half-‐ marathons as part of Team DetermiNation, the American Cancer Society’s group of endurance athletes who raise funds for cancer research and awareness. She and her husband also produce shows to benefit the Door to Door Healing Arts Program, which brings performers to hospital staff, patients, and their families, and are strong supporters of LGBT rights. Additionally, Andrea has a strong passion for animal rights; one which motivated her to star in Susie’s Hope, an independent film (based on true events) about seeking justice for abused animals. Andrea divides her time between her homes in New York City and North Carolina, with husband Paul, dog Charley, and bunny Dusty.
