2 Person Camp
Camp will be conducted by veteran HS and college officials of the Austin Basketball Officials
Association (ABOA) for any official with less than 4 years of experience. Campers can expect to
learn the fundamentals of 2-person mechanics before taking the step in their officiating career.
3 Person Camp
Camp will be conducted by NCAA level officials in the ABOA. The camp will focus on basic floor
coverage and positioning for beginners to advanced methods for veterans.
Each camper will receive:
Individual and Group Instruction
Practical Application of Rules, Mechanics and Court Coverage
Video Recording and Breakdown
Evaluations from Veteran HS and NCAA officials
Evaluations forwarded to your chapter assignors upon request

FOUNDATIONS CAMP ITINERARY
FRIDAY
Evening Court Class - 1.5 hours
Basic Mechanics
This required class is for all officials who are working to improve their 2-person or 3person mechanics. It will provide you with a foundation from which you can build a
successful officiating career. If you are a first time referee or first time on the 3-person
court – THIS CLASS IS ESSENTIAL!

Evening Classroom Session
Coach Speak
Coaches size up their officials even before they show up on the court. Wonder what
they are looking for in a good referee? You would be surprised that it goes beyond just
making good calls. A local coach will be present to fill you in and give you their
perspective.

Staff Q&A
Our staff will handle any and all questions you have about officiating, including
improving your schedule in your local chapter and moving into the college ranks.
Evening Classroom Session
Effective Use of Video
Many officials either don’t use video or do not utilize its full potential. Travis Motal is a
Division 1 college official and will demonstrate how video can help make better calls and
make you a better official.
The video we will be using will be actual film footage of campers from this year.
