Girls' Senior High School
Histor y
St. Bonaventure Girls’ Senior High School
(S.B.) was founded by Franciscan Sisters
of The Holy Infant Jesus (O.S.F.). In 1957,
Sr. Mary Chang, OSF, Sr. Gloria Li, OSF,
and Sr. Antonia Ho, OSF, came to Taiwan
with Bishop Julius E. Dillon from USA. They
firstly established St. Francis Kindergarten
and Stella Maris Dormitory. Being aware
of the importance on providing better
education to local females, they
started thinking about founding a
girls’ school. To make the plan in
action, the Sisters took several trips
to USA to raise fund for purchasing
land and building campus.
The school board was established in
1965 and Bishop Cheng Shih-kuang
from Taipei Parish acted as chairman. In
1977, following the national educational policy, the school
added the Department of Household Management to train
the vocational technicians. In 1990, to meet the needs of
the society, the school recruited the students who took the
general courses. At present, we have more than 1,000
students and 90 members in the staff. In 2005, the school
was renamed St. Bonaventure Girls' Senior High School.
Spirits
About Teachers:
All of our certified teachers exert their own specialty on
teaching; besides, they are enthusiastic to pursue further
studies and upgrade themselves. Emphasizing on arousing
students’ learning motivation, we apply various teaching
approaches combined with multimedia materials into
classrooms. Therefore, we make the best use of Information
and Communications Technology (ICT) on the spot of
teaching. We expect students to stand on the right stage and
to live a satisfactory life in the future.
About Students:
The concept of the Whole-man Education is applied to
the campus. Teachers are supposed to take the initiative to
understand the needs of students and to cultivate students
according to their unique personality and talents. Moreover,
our teachers should leave no efforts to create many a
positive learning experience in class. With these experiences,
students will be empowered with more confidence to try and
to explore. Thus, students can strive for their goals in life with
enthusiasm.
Consulting Function:
We aggressively engage in the consultation of psychology,
life, studying, and realize the consulting system in order to
optimistically develop the accurate points of view toward the
life.
Religious Spirit:
By means of the activities such as the voice of St.
Bonaventure’s prayer, Bible sharing, Mass, May Queen For
Crowning Virgin Mary and so on, we hope to have students
realize the manners of church and religion, praising Virgin
Mary’s virtues and building up the heart of caring society.
Scholarships:
We build up various kinds of good scholarship systems,
including Excellent New Comer’s Attraction Scholarship,
Students Supporting Scholarship, Student’s Inspiration and
Encouragement Scholarship, Examination Scholarship,
Same School Strategy Scholarship, Dormitory Scholarship,
and Parents Scholarship ,etc.
Diverse Extracurricular Activities:
We have totally 20 school clubs of academic, service,
recreation, and arts. The various club activities allow students
to display their vitality and develop their potentials.
Outlook
With the efforts of the principal, all faculties and students,
the rate of admission to colleges and universities has been
rising steadily in recent years. Besides, in view of the multiple
college entrance programs, we are sure to promote both the
quality and the rate of admissions.
Along with the religious spirit: supreme sacrifices, ardent
love for people, and everlasting joy, our school will get with
the times in more liberal and more democratic style, leaving
students growing safely and learning happily in this “big
family”.
The current chairman of the board is Sister Anna Huang
O.S.F. and the present Principal is Dorita Cheng. Since the
principal Cheng assumed charge of the school, she has
been following the consistently good system of our school to
propel school affairs forward with delicate faith of education:
transcendence pursuit and quality promotion. It is certain that
her leadership style, doing extraordinary things with a light
heart, will make the education of St. Bonaventure elevated.
