Candidates for the Office of President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, and Trustee are running this year. Most have submitted the following biographical sketches so you can get to know them a bit better. All bios are published here as received from the Candidates. CCDTC and the Staff of The Happy Howler take no responsibility for the accuracy of this information. President Rod Steele My name is Rod Steele and I am again running for President of the Clermont County Dog Training Club. I believe most of you know me by now. You know me as someone who strives to promote our club any and every chance I get. You know me as someone who believes in the club and wants only the best for our members and I would certainly appreciate consideration for your vote. I didn’t have any recent photos but actually found the one above from some years ago. Just keep in mind I was younger then but I'm still the same person, though obviously older and hopefully wiser Editors Note: The above photo is the elusive and much sought after "Rod Steele Action Figure". Action Dog Figure sold separately. Vice President Jackie Barth Jackie has been training English Springer Spaniels for over 30 years. She has completed many obedience titles on her dogs along with completing AKC Championships on three of her dogs as an owner, handler and breeder. Active also in UKC, she has shown quite a few of her dogs to UKC Championships and Grand Championships. Now active in the agility ring, she has completed numerous CPE titles on three of her current dogs. Active in many of the club activities, Jackie has also taken charge of the huge raffle at our UKC shows which has raised several thousand dollars for the club each year. She has also organized several fundraisers for the club. As current VP of Membership, she handles all new membership applications, dues, billing and membership directory for the club. She looks forward to getting to know more of the members and working with the membership to improve our club in the upcoming years. Recording Secretary Ruth Ann Stewart I have been a member of CCDTC since 2009, and recording secretary since 2013. I am now up for re-election to that post. While I am most active at CCDTC, I am also a member of several other dog clubs in the area and have served in various positions with those clubs. I started training my dogs in obedience back in 1977, and in the past have taught a number of obedience classes. Since the 90s, I have been training and competing with my toy poodles in agility, so much so, that it has now become almost a full time job. I have also shown my dogs in conformation. In my previous life, I was a computer programmer. Then in 1999 I started my own embroidery business specializing in items mostly for dog show people. I still run that business today. I would like to see the club come together and grow and find a way to accommodate all members and their interests as the field of dog sports continues to evolve, diversify, and expand. Trustee Cathy Neff I have been a member of CCDTC since 2007 and have taken obedience and many agility classes. I have served as Trustee on the CCDTC Board for the last two years. During these two years I have served on the Events Committee and helped negotiate contracts with CCKC for the AKC trials and events. I've worked the April 2015 AKC Agility Trial as Co-Trial Chair and Worker Coordinator. I researched and executed buying the new garage building for the Club for trial/show equipment, organized it's delivery and helped build the foundation and ramp for the garage. For the past two years I have helped build the courses for the full building Fun Runs on Thursdays. In 2013 I was a Ring Steward at the CPE Agility Nationals. In 2014 I was awarded CCDTC Member of the Year. I currently serve on the Equipment Committee, which buys, replaces, fixes and cleans the club's equipment. I am currently training for the position of Agility Trial Secretary for the fall of 2016. In addition to all of this, I do various club 4 maintenance - from light bulbs to furnace filters to knowing where to look for or who to ask if something needs to be repaired/replaced. So if you want to know - ask me! Thanks for your consideration to run for a second term as Trustee. no long term plan or vision as to where or what path should be taken. I believe my presence on the Board will help focus the efforts of the Board, to encourage inclusions of all areas of the club’s activities, and increase the open communication among members to improve CCDTC. Kroger for 11. I spend a lot of my free time volunteering at the League of Animal Welfare. I have adopted both of my precious dogs from the League one excelling in agility and the other obedience. I can truly say the CCDTC, the League, and my pups are my biggest hobby. I want to bring creativity, honesty, spirit, and most importantly fresh ideas and perspectives to this club. Anyone who knows me knows I absolutely love dogs, and everything that has to do with them! I’ve dedicated my life to my two girls I rescued from the League and our hobby of agility\obedience. I would be happy to help further the growth and success of this club not just for my own enjoyment but so others can experience the CCDTC as I have. VOTE FOR ME! Trustee Trustee Judie Taphorn Susan Litchholt As a CPA since 1991, I bring a business like focus and will help the club become more inclusive. The club needs to have a long range plan, both from a planning and financial viewpoint, to insure the needs of all the members of the club are addressed in a timely manner. Being a member since 2009 I have seen the club change into what the members what from their club. However there is Hello my name is Susan Litchholt and I’m running for the Board of Trustee. I have been a member of the Clermont County Dog Training Club since 2010 and have been a part of obedience agility or therapy dog classes in one capacity or another. Whether teaching or learning I have truly enjoyed being a member of the CCDTC. I have worked for Thriftway for 21 years and now Dog Quiz 9. KABOOM FAWA-WR Ignite the Fuse, RAE 1/28/06- 9/22/15 There is much to say, much sorrow. This beautiful boy was born with a spur in his back that caused discomfort and or pain all of his life. From the loins forward he was beautiful, his rear, honestly, was a train wreck. Agility was out due to the spinal spur, but he loved playing Rally with me. He simply wanted to play and loved life! And we did that - not a highly accomplished show dog, no lots of letters behind his name. We did what he could do. We played at Nosework, actually titled in rally, and played in agility when there was tunnelers. Four years ago he was diagnosed with a spinal stenosis. Meds worked for a long time, but then he said he hurt bad. He was always clear about his high pain, his fear of being hurt. He never understood why things he wanted to do caused pain. Invitational last December. Hanging over the booth was a banner of him, having a blast racing through the water. He paid for the fun for a week, but it is him-running free and loving life! free, run painless, play with anyone you want with no fear of pain. Find playmates who understand the Vizsla play bark and will give as good as you give doing it. Kaboom's sole claim to "fame" is a poster that Eukanuba had at the With the sugar high from the Jelly Bellies (his favorite treat) may you run ~Rhoda Ezell LEND ME A PUP I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done,” For all the joys this pup will bring, the risk of grief you'll run. Will you shelter him with tenderness, Will you love him while you may. And for the happiness you'll know forever grateful stay. I will lend to you for awhile a puppy, God said, For you to love him while he lives and to mourn for him when he is gone. Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe for two or three. But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me? He'll bring his charms to gladden you and (should his stay be brief) you'll always have his memories As solace for your grief. I cannot promise that he will stay, since all from earth return, But there are lessons taught below want this pup to learn. I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true And from the folk that crowd life's land I have chosen you. Now will you give him all your love, Nor think the labour vain. Nor hate me when I come to take my pup back again. 6 But should I call him back much sooner than you've planned, Please brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand. If, by your love, you've managed my wishes to achieve, In memory of him that you've loved, cherish every moment with your faithful bundle, And know he loved you too. - Author Unknown CCDTC Membership Meeting Minutes Clermont County Dog Training Club Minutes from the Membership Meeting, September 15, 2015 The meeting was called to order at 7:03PM by Vice President Jackie Barth. The meeting was adjourned at 7:26pm ~ Gary Barth Interesting Dog Facts World’s largest dog: The world’s heaviest as well as longest dog ever recorded was an Old English Mastiff named Zorba. In 1989, Zorba weighed 343 lbs and was 8 feet 3 inches long from nose to tail! World’s smallest dog: The smallest dog in history was a tiny Yorkie from Blackburn, England. At two years of age and fully grown this little dude was an incredible 2.5 inches tall by 3.75 inches long! He weighed only 4 ounces! He was approximately the size of a matchbox. World’s oldest dog: The oldest dog that has been reliably documented was an Australian cattle-dog named Bluey. He was put to sleep at the age of 29 years and 5 months! The oldest pure-bred British dog is reckoned to be the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Their proof of existence has been traced back to dogs brought to Wales by the Celts from the Black Sea around 1200 BC. 7 Dogs have a sense of smell that is one of the keenest in nature. Humans might smell a pot of stew cooking on the stove, but a dog can distinguish the smells of each individual ingredient, from the beef itself, to the potatoes. The Poodle haircut was originally meant to improve the dog's swimming abilities as a retriever, with the pom-poms left in place to warm their joints.
