Well it has been a busy month for some of us, from Cruises to car shows. We started the month of June with the Lafayette College Alumni Parade and finished up June with the Skyline Drive Corvette Show at Alvernia University. Along the way many of EACC members picked up several awards at the shows and made a great example for our club along the way. There are other events to get the cars out to this coming month so stay tuned for emails as they come up. As far as Club Events go this month, Cruisin on The Trail is on the 4th of July starting at 5:00. This will be our 3rd cruise of the season with only 3 left after this one. The club picnic is on Sunday the 12th of July and it is still not too late to sign up for this fun event. We will need to get a count pretty soon (July 5th) in order the correct amount of food. Please either sign up at this coming Thursday’s meeting or send the club an email to let us know if you are going. Then on the 25th of July is the Wheels For Meals car show, our club is one of the Co-sponsors for this event so a good turnout would help the club. The funds raised from this car show go to the local Northampton County “Meal on Wheels” organization so it is a great cause. Check the club web site for information on this show or once again pick up a flier at the meeting. We all need to keep in mind our own Car Show “Vette’s for Pets” is coming up soon on Sunday, August 9th. This is an event that takes as many of our EACC members as we can get to turn out to help so we can have a great show as we have done in the past. There is still plenty work going on behind the scenes right now and the more help we can get the easier it will be on everyone. We still need items for the Tricky Tray iand door prizes so please think about picking up something for this important part of the show. If every club member donated one item, it would be a great help. Also, sponsors for the book are still welcome so if you of know of someone or you yourself want to become a sponsor please send an email to the club and we will contact you. Keep in mind the money we raise that day goes to The Center for Animal Health and Welfare so I am looking forward to the great Easton Area Corvette Club turnout as we have had in the past. Everyone should take a look at the awards pages of the newsletter and you maybe surprised at the amount of awards our club members are winning. This past month there have been several Judged shows which are the difficult ones to win. Just another reason to be proud of our great club. Always look at the events section of our web site for shows coming up you can always register the day of any event. Well hope to see you at the meeting. My first Corvette was a Dark Brown 1974 Coupe. The car didn’t stay long since someone else liked it more than I did and stole it from the driveway at my parent’s house. When the insurance paid the claim, I waited a few weeks and found another 74 at Malcom Konner Chevrolet in Paramus, NJ. This one was Yellow and was a 4 speed. This was my daily driver and it was driven in rain and snow (I know better now). This was the Corvette that I decided to propose to Denise in at a traffic light in Union, NJ right by Kean College (romantic huh)? Well I kept this Corvette for a few years and realized it wasn’t best used as a daily driver so I sold it in 1982. Fast forward to 2000 when Denise came up with an idea to get a sports car since we were still in our 40’s and not ready for a Buick or Grand Marquis. I mentioned getting a Corvette and she said we couldn’t afford a new Corvette. I did not say anything about a new Corvette so we started looking for a nice used one. We looked around on line and saw a couple of nice C4’s on the Stoudt’s Corvettes webpage so we took a ride down to do some Sunday shopping and there was a 96 Polo Green 6 speed and a 93 Black Rose Metallic automatic that we liked on the lot. A few days later we went down and I took the 93 for a ride and that was all I needed. So a couple of days later without Denise knowing, I took a ride down to get a closer look and find out what the deal was on the 93. We had looked at others on line with higher mileage that were more money and Stoudt’s reputation had me sold on the car. I called Denise at work and asked her if she liked the 93 and did she want to buy it. Well Denise’s intuition somehow knew I was at Stoudt’s and she wasn’t real thrilled that I was there by myself. Well a week later we had the 93 home after Denise and our friend Brian picked it up. I was away on business and she didn’t want to drive the car home from Reading so Brian got the first drive in our car. That was in August and I joined the EACC at the September Cruise at Northampton Crossings. For a few years the 93 had the garage all to itself until I got an email from a woman who wanted to know if I could put her 89 in the newsletter since she wanted to sell it. She gave me the details on the car and when I told Denise she asked if I wanted to go look at it. Well I might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but I had to say yes. Off we went to look at the 89 off of 512 near Wegmans. A test drive and a short conversation was all it took to make us a 2 Corvette family and give the 93 some company in the garage. The 93 was very clean when we got it but the 89 was far from presentable for shows and cruises. After a few years of hard work and a few bucks, I was finally ready to open the hood and let people see the results of some elbow grease. In 2009 the 1993 was selected as a Celebrity Pick at Carlisle and 4 years later the 1989 also got a Celebrity Pick. In 2010, the 89 was part of a flag display at Carlisle to help raise money for families of our veterans. More important than the number of awards and trophies we have won, the people we have met and become friends with these past 15 years are by far worth more to us. In addition to our fellow club members, we have met many great people from other clubs who share the same interests. This August will be the 10th year that Denise and I will be chairing Vettes for Pets which is an event very near and dear to us. We would both like to thank everyone in the club for allowing us to share our Corvettes and the events they have taken us to. Looking forward to many more years with the EACC. June was a busy month for members of the EACC. There were so many winners, there are two pages this month! Congratulations to all the winners.
