“A Mission is a time of renewal
of faith and rededication to God,"
said Rev. Edward Lunney, pastor
of St. Mary’s. “And our Mission
last week was exactly that. Its
!appeal to young and old alike
(proved that knowledge and love
I of God are still of prime import! ance in our lives."
Service took place each even' lng at 7:30, with more than three
hundred persons present. And as
one parishioner noted: there were
almost as many high school boys
and girls as older people.
Leading the Mission was Rev.
|Arthur Connell, of the Redemptorist Fathers in Saint John, New
I Brunswick. He pointed out that a
I Mission is often, called a "Renew
al Week” because it gives people
an opportunity to renew their
knowledge of their faith. “It is
similar to a refresher course in
the faith,” he said, "since the in
structions and sermons were gear
ed to remind the people of truths
they already knew and also to ex
plain some of the recent changes

Honorable "mention was made
of the, Almonte curlers who
placed on winning teams di
the season, especially an 'Almonte
team of Bob JHU1, Art Landry,
Jack FJynn and Ed. Quinn, who
won the Carleton "Place Club
championship. Another Almonte
rink of Jim Paul, Peter Guthrie,
Jack Flynn and Basil Hurley won
the Molson Trophy.

in the Church.” In other words,
the purpose of the Mission was to
explain the Faith as it applies to
this modern age.
At the beginning of the week
the people were encouraged to
write out any questions they might
have about the teachings of the
Catholic church or about any
thing that was mentioned in any
of the sermons. Then on Thursday
evening after the Mission, Father
Connell held a “discussion per
iod," during which he took the
questions and answered them.
The people were also encouraged
to express their comments about
the Mission, and some of them
were:
•A very good Mission; I learn
ed a lot,” “I was pleased to hear
again that we are still to be guid
ed by the Ten Commandments.”
"We should have Missions more
often,” “Every sermon gave some
thing real to think about and
hold to,” "Very informative and
most interesting and enjoyable.'
“Great assistance as a restoration
and reminder of Faith.”
Douglas Wiseman, MPP for
