Dear Camp Eeshay, As one strolls around Camp, the very strong positive energy that permeates the air is clearly felt. This energy is created because of a few obvious factors; however there is a more subtle one. First let’s discuss the obvious reasons. The superb staff – super talented DH Dovid Sanders [we miss you already, camp is just not the same], counselor Gavriel Levy our guitar mentor, counselor Yedidya Alper the dedicated league commissioner, counselor Avi Wisotsky the assistant learning director, [hatzlacha in Yeshiva Yosef Ross], the new recruits Elazar Greenwald and Yosef Leeman – wow, it feels as if you were here for a number of weeks already! Eli Held the sure and steady sports counselor, Yehuda Wisotsky the nutrition director [canteen! Heshy Levine and Shmuel Ackerman as assistants], Aki Stein the videographer, and Heshy Katz the “do it all” one-man team. [Welcome back!] The rigorous camp schedule schedule – The day begins with a healthy dose of learning, supported by a reward system [up for Pole Position Raceway? would you like it with a soda?] Intense Leagues follow [does everyone have to sub out? ……… Yes of course]. Then, during workshops, we have the opportunity to hone the skills that Hashem gave us. [Is it true that he completed the triathlon practice in only 41 minutes? wow!]. This week we pulled ourselves away from the regular routine to enjoy water sports in Southern New Jersey. Pontooning, banana boating, and jet skiing [on the ones that weren’t broken or out of gas!] There is another reason that helps create this positive energy, albeit more subtle. Let’s illustrate it with a story. Rav Shachne Zohn who lived in Eretz Yisroel [one of the last Talmidim of R’ Baruch Ber Leibowitz, Nifter last year] called Rav Elya Svei’s home in order speak with him. Rav Elya was at a Chasuna and therefore unavailable. At the Chosson’s Tisch of the Chasuna the director came over to Rav Elya, to inform him that he has a phone call from Eretz Yisroel in the office. Rav Elya greeted Rav Shachne warmly, but asked if they can speak another time unless it couldn’t be postponed. Rav Shachne said that he will call another day. Eventually, when Rav Shachne got in touch with Rav Elya, he was able to express what was on his mind. “Rav Elya, I just heard that the assimilation rate in America is so high, what can we do to stop it?!”Rav Shachne felt a strong connection with every Yid, and it therefore bothered him immensely that the assimilation rate was so high, even though they were on another continent! Here in Camp Eeshay there is a strong sense of Achdus and connection amongst all the members. From camper to camper and from staff member to camper and vice versa, everyone is cared about, noticed, and included. This is the more subtle reason that helps create that positive energy so clearly felt in Camp Eeshay. Have a great Shabbos! Rabbi Schonfeld Rabbi Kramer GUESS WHO???? TALMIDEI HASHEVUA Chazarah Q’ OF THE WEEK: Give an example of when someone would stand up for a donkey. FROM THE LEVY-ING ROOM Wow another week in Camp Eeshay, and what a week! From jet skiing to watermelon eating to camper guessing to an intense staff basketball game with professional refs, the excitement doesn't stop. Seriously, our refs don't even need striped shirts to look professional. Anyway, as they demonstrated this week, Rabbi Schonfeld and Rabbi Kramer, you always find new ways to bring out peoples talents. I mean, whoever thought that J.J. could eat that much watermelon or Shimshy Fisch could drink a bottle of Snapple in about 0.6 seconds (that's what it seemed like anyway). What would we do without you two! Also, a very special thank you to Dovid Sanders for all of his Phenomenalism (I made up that word) regarding all aspects of camp, especially the interviews this week you were hilarious. We'll miss you! Anyway, what’s the difference between watermelon and a traffic light? On one you stop on red and go on green, and on the other you go on red and stop on green. And here’s another one, is a joke still considered a joke if no one laughs at it. I’ll let you decide. Anyway (I say that a lot don't I…) have a great Shabbos guys and I'll see you next week! 2nd ACTIVITY/NIGHT ACTIVITY Aki on computer in office ... goodbye Weis, Ross, Fuchs, Plachrach ...
