From our comfortable nine passenger vans, we will explore Canada’s role in the liberation of France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. We will also have a chance to enjoy the beautiful cities of Bruge, Arnhem, Groningen and Amsterdam. Highlights include: • The Battles for the Channel Ports (September, October 1944) • The Battles to Liberate Antwerp (September, November 1944) • Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo • Operation Market Garden, September 1944 (Arnhem) • The Battles for the Rhineland (February, March 1945) • The Liberation of the Netherlands (Autumn 1944, April, May 1945) • Canadian war cemeteries: Calais, Adegem, Bergen op Zoom, Groesbeek, Holten Visit the sites of the Great War and the Second World War with Dr. Geoffrey Hayes History Professor University of Waterloo “IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS...” Trace the Maple Leaf Route with Professor Geoffrey Hayes through the Canadian battlefields of France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. The Canadians played a central but often overlooked role in the last 8 months of the Second World War. They opened the Channel Ports of France and the approaches to Antwerp, they fought in the Rhineland, and they helped liberate the Netherlands. Thousands are buried in five Canadian cemeteries along our route. We will enjoy such beautiful sites as Brugge, the famous Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, and Amsterdam. We will also visit the Westerbork Transit Camp.
