Women In Water Awards 2010 Event held at Oshabeni Village,Vusushaba Sports Ground, UGU District Municipality,
Port Shepstone, Kwa-Zulu-Natal on Friday 27th August 2010.
From the back of beyond to the cities at the front,
It takes a Woman to break the waters of life...
From the rural to the urban,
It takes a Woman to sustain the water,
That is life....
And from every corner of the country,
It takes a nation to honour strong Women...
Call her Mapula, Nomvula, MamSamaria,
Waterlilly of the plains or the Rain Queen.
Call us to sing her praises”

MME MATSEPO KUMBANE
Mme Matsepo is a trained Social Worker. She spent her
life fighting poverty and malnutrition in the rural parts of
Southern Africa. Her weapons are simple but powerful
and aimed at the reduction of poverty. MmaKumbane uses
water, SA’s scare resource, to transform the lives of poor
women in SA and neighbouring countries. Her methods of
food production have inspired professionals from different
fields of agriculture. She combines water conservation and
soil conservation to minimize time and labour in producing
high quality food. She has a network of women from rural
areas in Mpumalanga and Limpopo using water to produce
food for their families and local markets. Her own plot and
home is an experimental farm; where she trains women
from different areas and agricultural
professionals in efficient water usage and crop production.
She runs a series of weekly courses for rural women on

Acknowledgements
WWA 2010 project was one of the challenging and yet enjoyable activity of the year 2010. We are humbled
by the opportunity to work with the department (DWA) in 2010, and would like to thank the entire team
that made this experience worthwhile; the DWA National & Regional teams and the Ugu District Municipality
team, for making our workload lighter and allowed us to demonstrate our capability, expertise, and most
importantly, for giving us the creative license without restrictions. Re a leboga! Siyabonga!
