This is marked with one of the posts that you should follow for the first part of the route. 4. After about 1km, the path very briefly joins a dirt road before carrying on up some steps. Follow the track, edging round toward Trevenque for about 2.5 km, then take a side path to the left. Follow the path steeply up onto the ridge and round to the right of the mountain. Climb over a fallen rock that blocks the path. 8. About 500m from the summit, the path straightens out, going down a ridge. At the end of the ridge, follow the path steeply down to the right. At this point you can see the path continuing below you. 7. Take the path left it’s only a few metres to the summit. To continue, retrace your steps until you get to a fork (~30m), where you should take the left-hand path downhill. Follow the path zigzagging steeply downwards. © INSTITUTO GEOGRÁFICO NACIONAL DE ESPAÑA Shortly after the bottom of the slope, take the left-hand fork, following the contour of the hill round, then keep right. 9. Shortly afterwards, take the path turning off to the right. This path follows the gravel bed at the bottom of the valley. Where the gravel peters out (about 700m from 9), take the path to the right through the trees. 10. Almost immediately you get to a dirt road, where you should turn right. Before getting to the road, there is also the chance to refill drinking water from a spring. Shortly afterwards, ignore the track to the right, keeping on the road. This section again coincides with the signposted path, and there are wooden marker posts (see photo in point 3). 11. After about 1km, you will pass the Casa Forestal de Rosales. 12. From here, follow the road zigzagging down for about 2 km. On a sharp left-hand bend in the road where there is a stone wall, take the path to the right. Here you again leave the marked route. 13. At the junction after about 500 m, turn right (marked Collado Sevilla). From here follow the path (again marked with wooden posts) back to the car park (2). Getting There By Car: From Granada, take the La Zubia exit from the southern ring road (Ronda Sur). When you reach La Zubia go straight on at the traffic lights then take a left signposted to Cumbres Verdes (you cannot turn left directly, so continue up to the roundabout, do a uturn and then turn right). Then follow signs to Cumbres Verdes. You soon enter the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, and, after a few kilometres, pass Cumbres Verdes on your right. The road then turns into a dirt track. Follow this for 1.5km until you reach Fuente del Hervidero. Either turn off left to park here, or carry on 1km to another car park at the trailhead, but bear in mind that this stretch of road is often in poor condition. By bus: There is no bus service to Fuente del Hervidero. On weekends there are two buses a day to Cumbres Verdes (service 275), from where you need to walk 1.5km up a dirt road to Fuente del Hervidero. © Trek Sierra Nevada, November 2010 May not be altered or sold www.treksierranevada.com
