Spacecraft Systems
SN-100 Microsat: Flight Proven
Sierra Nevada Corporation’s (SNC) Space Systems provides our customers with a highly-capable, flight-proven,
low-cost 150 kg class satellite, tailorable for a variety of missions. The SN-100 bus is used for the 17 ORBCOMM
Generation 2 spacecraft currently being deployed. The SN-100 design enables large-scale productions and increased
flexibility for missions with payloads up to 100 kg.

ORBCOMM Generation 2 (OG2)
The OG2 program is a commercial satellite production program to design, manufacture
and deliver 17 low-Earth-orbit (LEO) communication satellites, boosting ORBCOMM’s
service capacity. The OG2 constellation will enable worldwide machine-to-machine
(M2M) communications for commercial customers as well as Automatic Identification
System (AIS) data for the U.S. Coast Guard and other users. SNC is the prime
contractor for the OG2 constellation, providing the SN-100 spacecraft bus platform and
advanced software-defined radio communication payload. All aspects of payload
integration, system-level performance and environmental test are done in-house at
SNC’s Louisville, Colorado facility.
The first OG2 prototype was launched in 2012. Six operational satellites
were launched in 2014, with an additional 11 satellites launching late
summer 2015. ESPA ring deployment is the launch configuration baseline.
OG2 Program Objectives
SN-100 Microsat Features
• Augment current ORBCOMM satellite constellation
• Enhance current ORBCOMM capabilities - providing
12 x more capacity
• Augment existing constellation to reduce coverage gaps
and latency
• Add maritime tracking AIS receiver to each satellite
