President This is the last newsletter for 2013. The holidays are fast approaching and the cooler temperatures are finally beginning to arrive. Those with convertibles have had an extended "top down" season and the Club has offered many events for you to cruise with your fellow members. It has again been a busy year and there is still more to come. One more event to come is the annual Christmas Dinner Dance, the premiere event of the Club. As has been the custom in the past, the club will pick up more than half the cost of the evening for members and their spouses or significant others, as long as those spouses or significant others are paid members. You get a great meal and an evening of dancing and partying with your CCR family for a reasonable price, making this an event not to be missed. The menu as well as event details can be found in this newsletter. Also, the November General Membership Meeting marks the last meeting of the year. It is an important one because at that meeting we will elect the Officers and Board Members for 2014. Ballots will be handed out at the meeting, but for those who cannot attend, I would urge you to fill out the absentee ballot included in this newsletter and make sure it gets to the Club before the meeting on November 8. This is my last communication as President. I find it hard to believe that the past two years have gone by so fast. We have done so much these past two years. Beginning the 2012 year, I had the past experience of serving as President in 2007 and 2008; however, the challenges facing the club were different this time. Looking back over the past two years, I know we met those challenges and the Club is once again strong and successful. Of course, success doesn’t come unless you have great support, and I received great support. I owe a great debt of gratitude to the Board members who served these past two years and who have worked very hard to support me and my fellow members; I especially want to recognize and thank my "people" who did so much to help carry the load; and I owe a great debt of gratitude to the membership for their tremendous support. Our members were always encouraging, rarely discouraging, willing to help (many times without even having to ask) and just fun people to be with. CCR is an outstanding organization because of the members. We are a giving group that cares. We give of our time, treasury, and talents, not only to our fellow Club members and CCR events, but also to those who are less fortunate through our support of charitable organizations. Although we are a Corvette car club, we are also an association of people. I choose to drive a Corvette because it is one of the finest production cars, and I choose to belong to CCR because it is once again the Greatest Corvette Club in the World! (continued on page 4) 4 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 A Message from the President (cont'd) I thank you for allowing me to serve the Club, and I thank you for your total support. It has been a tremendously fun time. I’m looking forward to allowing others the opportunity to serve, and I’m looking forward to giving them my support. It is said that life is a journey. For me, I’d prefer to make the trip in a Corvette with my special gal by my side. Paul Murman 2013 CCR President November 8 Membership Meeting & After Party Our next General Membership Meeting will take place on Friday, November 8, at 7:30 p.m. Many members arrive as early as 7:00 p.m. to visit in the parking lot. Feel free to come early if you aren’t in the habit of doing so. This month’s meeting will be held at the Markel Corporation Building in Innsbrook. The address is 4521 Highwoods Parkway, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060. There is plenty of parking available. 4521 Highwoods Parkway, Glen Allen, VA 23060 Meeting Directions: From I-295, take exit 51B for Nuckols Road South. From Nuckols Road, turn right at the first traffic light onto Sadler Road. Take the next left turn onto Sadler Place. Then take an immediate right onto Highwoods Parkway. Take the first left into the parking lot (you will see the "Markel" sign). The Markel Building will be directly in front of you. Enter under the carport on the right side of the building as you face it. After Party: This month's after party will take place at Padow's NEW LOCATION, which is even closer to our West End meeting location. Padow's new address is 4121 Cox Road #C, Glen Allen, Virginia, 23060. It is located right next to the new Hondo's Steak House. A variety of pizza will be served, including soft drinks, coffee, tea, etc. The cost to members is $15/couple or $8/single. This is a 50% savings off the actual cost which is subsidized by the Club! Members are invited to bring a variety of desserts for the enjoyment of all. Sidney and Eddie Padow are looking forward to having the Corvette Club of Richmond back to see their new location, so plan on joining us! 5 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 Revs & Rumbles @ the National Corvette Museum By Barry Roper, NCM Ambassador/Lifetime Member, (804) 794-0548 As 2013 draws to a close, CCR members look to the coming year's events hoping to create an enjoyable mix of new adventures interspersed with traditional and recurring journeys. Coming up with a workable balance can be a challenge for both the CCR Board and the Events Coordinator. Too much repetition risks diminishing participation by members who may feel they've "been there, done that" a number of times already. However, excessive emphasis on untried venues may fall flat due to lack of interest, cost, competing dates, or excessive time requirements. Finally, add to the dilemma the fact that many of the participants are recent inductees, and eager to be involved, with any event being new to them. So where is this going? 2014 already promises to be a banner year for CCR members to become better acquainted with the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. With the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the NCM now only nine months away (August), those members who are planning to share the festivities with 8,000 or more of their closest Corvette friends already have a relatively unique adventure awaiting. Added to that is the option for making the journey to the Museum as a member of the National Corvette Caravan by participating in the Carolinas and Virginia contingent as it departs from Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday, August 26. This promises to be a fantastic week of "everything Corvette" and we already have 21 members registered for the Caravan. Another opportunity exists for visiting the NCM at a time when the crowds are not nearly so massive and the Museum's offerings and facilities are yours to explore with ease. Frequently several members from a club will arrange for a Club Visit that is an individualized experience. These trips are usually between two and six days long, as desired by the touring members. Typically, the visits are made on a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or often a Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, particularly if the plan is to include a tour of the Corvette plant across from the Museum (no plant tours run on Saturday or Sunday). Other parts of the Club Visit may include a guided tour of the entire Museum, a "behind the scenes" tour, a guided road trip to a destination away from the Museum such as to dine or visit a local attraction, a meal at the Corvette Cafe, time spent in the Corvette store, or a visit to the construction site for the Motorsports Park across I-65 from the Museum (see photo). (continued on page 6) 6 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 Revs & Rumbles (cont'd) Some groups offer to spend some of their site visit working a four hour stint doing jobs on behalf of the Museum. Personalized badges are made for the visit participants and frequently a previously ordered Club brick or individual brick can be unveiled by the staff. Often, an R8C (museum delivery of a new Corvette) experience can be witnessed during the visit. As is evident, the possibilities are numerous and can be customized to suit both first time visitors and returning guests. Lodging, dining reservations, and other details can also be coordinated by a staff member assigned to assist visitors with planning details. Visit www.corvettemuseum.com and in the column on the left side of the home page, click on "Club Visits" to view details of the options as well as to read summaries of previous club visits, such as the one by the Myrtle Beach Corvette Club some years ago or the extended visit by the Corvettes Unlimited Corvette Club from Pennsville, New Jersey. Any club member can volunteer to "OD" such an event (be the "Officer of the Day") by contacting the Events Coordinator for consideration of the event and hopefully inclusion in the calendar. Maybe 2014 or even 2015 will include such a memory making trip that will allow exploration of the ever-changing delights that define our National Corvette Museum. Officers and Board Members Election 2014 CCR will conduct the election for the 2014 offices during the November Membership Meeting. Currently, only one individual is running for each office. Please see the representative ballot below. If anyone believes that one or more of the individuals currently running should be disqualified, please contact Steve DuBosky at (804) 824-4456. Ensuing discussions will be kept confidential. Finally, if you are unable to make the November meeting but desire to vote, please do so by sending your selections to Steve at [email protected] by November 7, 2013. 2014 CCR OFFICERS AND BOARD MEMBERS BALLOT President ___ Kirby Montgomery Vice President ___ Bruce Griggs Treasurer ___ JR Walker Recording Secrertary ___ Margaret Wilson Newsletter Editor ___ Mike Starr Corresponding Secretary ___ Donna Carr Sergeant at Arms ___ Butch Bateman Historian ___ David Dolan Web Master ___ Rob Bickert (Write-ins) ___ ____________________ ___ ____________________ ___ ____________________ ___ ____________________ ___ ____________________ ___ ____________________ ___ ____________________ ___ ____________________ ___ ____________________ 7 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 Caravan to James Madison's Montpelier Saturday, November 9, 10:30 a.m., ODs: Kathy and Rick Franklin On November 9, 2013, the Corvette Club of Richmond will caravan to the plantation home of James and Dolly Madison in Orange, Virginia. The property is owned by the National Preservation Trust and has been brought back to the condition and size when President and Mrs. Madison resided in the home during the early 1800s. Montpelier has been opened for visitors since 2008. The cost for a guided house tour is $18 per person. You can visit the grounds for no admission fee. The caravan will begin at the WaWa station located at West Broad Street and Route 288. Departure will be at 10:30 a.m. for a quick trip on I-64 West to the Zion’s Crossroads exit (Route 15 North) and on to the town of Gordonsville for a lunch stop at the BBQ Exchange. The owner/chef is reported to be quite the chef extraordinaire. Check out their website for the menu selections: http://www.bbqex.com. After lunch is completed, another 25 minute cruise will put the caravan at Montpelier. There is plenty of paved parking for our Corvettes. The introduction movie and mansion tour last for approximately two hours. After the mansion tour, we are able to roam the grounds and visit the additional historic locations. Restrooms are located at the Montpelier Visitors Center, along with a very limited selection of food. There are plenty of picnic tables at the Visitor Center for those wishing to brave the November weather. This is a rain or shine event. You may return to your home destinations at your own leisure. This location is spectacular, with beautiful views of the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains. The Franklin Virginia history tour adds another check mark to your bucket list. Contact Kathy or Rick Franklin for more information at (804) 744-7023. 8 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 Trivial Challenge Saturday, November 23, 7:00 p.m., OD: Paul Murman Are you smarter than a Mustang owner? Then prove it. On November 23, beginning around 7:00 p.m., we will have our second annual game night. We will play a version of that popular game of the 1970s called Trivial Pursuit. The goal will be to answer as many questions correctly within a specific time limit. Points will be awarded for correct answers, with more points earned based on how quickly the questions are answered. Additional points can be earned for a variety of reasons only known to the OD. The winner will be awarded the coveted "smart ___" trophy, currently held by team captain Val Miser. So that no one person is embarrassed individually, we will compete in three person teams. Teams will be created based on random selection, however, to keep harmony in the family, both husband and wife cannot be on the same team. All questions will be selected from the "easy" category, except for the team that has Steve Dubosky as a member. His team only gets questions from the most difficult category. Following the agenda used last year, and, as is the custom in our club, a pot luck meal will also part of the experience. The location and the venue will be determined at a later date and will be based on the number of participants. Thus, everyone is encouraged to sign up early so the plans can be finalized. So on November 23 – Let the game begin! Christmas Dinner Dance Saturday, December 7, 6:00 p.m., OD: Paul Murman This year’s Christmas Dinner Dance will be held on the evening of Saturday, December 7. Once again, we will be at Meadowbrook Country Club (3700 Cogbill Road, Richmond, Virginia 23234). We will have happy hour starting at 6:00 p.m. with light hors d’oeuvre. The Christmas party has historically been a "dress up" event, with many leaning toward the formal side, so please dress accordingly. The cost for this year’s party is just $35 for members and $70 for guests. For the purpose of definition, a guest is anyone who has not either paid the $25 annual membership dues or paid the $10 membership fee for their spouse or significant other. Dinner will be served by the staff at Meadowbrook beginning at 7:00 p.m. You must identify your entrée selection with your payment. If you do not identify your selection, one will be made for you. Please let us know in advance of any medical dietary restrictions. Don't miss CCR's annual gala! 9 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 Christmas Dinner Dance Schedule and Menu 6:00 p.m. Cash Bar (prices tentative) House drinks $5.00 Domestic beer $3.50 Premium drinks $6.50 Wine $5.50 Premium beer $4.50 Sodas $2.50 7:00 p.m. Dinner Entrée Selections Each entrée served with a house salad, warm rolls and coffee or tea. We will meet at Noon at the Dairy Queen at Route 5 and I-295 and will depart at 12:30 p.m. We will caravan by way of scenic back roads to Suffolk for a pit stop at the home of Susan Jaworski and William Hardy. From there, we’ll travel to the hotel, check in, and get situated before heading out around 5:00 pm for dinner at Rudee’s. Please make your own hotel reservations at (757) 437-9100. We have blocked off 20 rooms at the Country Inn & Suites, at 1801 Atlantic Avenue, at a rate of $75 for reservations made BEFORE December 1. Sign the events book at the November meeting or call Danny and Norma at (804) 458-2190 or (804) 731-4575 so we’ll have a good headcount for our dinner reservation. Million Dollar Quartet Saturday, March 29, OD: Steve DuBosky Greetings fellow country music-lovers and rock-and-rollers. This is to remind y’all that we have another deadline coming up, December 15, for the CCR event to see the musical "Million Dollar Quartet." This is a VERY limited engagement (3/28-3/30) at the Chrysler Hall in Norfolk. We have held 126 seats at the discounted price of $66 a person for the Saturday, March 29, matinee at 2:00 p.m. We currently have 38 people confirmed/paid already. We need a MINIMUM of 22 people (11 couples) to send us their money before December 15 to hold the remaining seats. If we do not meet that minimum, the theater will release the remaining tickets/seats to the general public. Those who have already purchased their tickets are guaranteed their primo seats. For questions, please contact Steve DuBosky at [email protected]. To purchase tickets, mail checks made payable to Steve DuBosky, 11450 Brickshire Park, Providence Forge, Virginia 23140. 11 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 5th Annual Vettes on the Point "On Point!" By Lori Dolan Bob Brody has been listing me as an OD for this event, but he wrote the initial articles, contacted the hotel, led our caravan, and arranged for our Saturday night dinner at Jake's. My only job was to write this recap...so here goes! On Friday afternoon, Dave and I pulled into the staging area and found a crowd circling a red C7 Stingray. We should have been in Dave’s yellow C7, but when we went to pick it up at Heritage the night before, we found it had been ordered incorrectly. Dave ordered an automatic, but what came in was a 7 speed stick. Heritage had a beautiful red C7 available on the lot, but we wanted yellow. We would have to reorder. That same evening John and Susie Rhodes went to Heritage and traded up to that red C7. So, THAT was the red C7 we were all ogling now! This was the first weekend in October and the day was perfect for our caravan--sunny and unseasonably warm with temperatures in the 80s. OD Bob Brody called a drivers’ meeting, handed out directions to Mariners Landing, and then we hit the road. Traffic was good and the caravan stayed together easily. About 40 miles up the road we picked up our CCR Powhatan members. After a short break we drove another hour to Forest, Virginia, where we made a stop at a Sheetz for a restroom break and a chance to purchase snacks, drinks, and ice before checking into the hotel. The entire route was beautiful, but the scenery and the winding country roads of the last 30 minutes were fabulous. That night, we had a potluck dinner in Steve and Karen DuBosky’s 3-bedroom condo. These Friday night get-togethers are a blast with plenty of good food and laughter. It’s kind of like an after-meeting party--good time to get to know other members. The next morning we all met up after breakfast for our caravan to Parkway Marina for the show. Uh oh...problem in the parking lot! A power steering hose broke on the Roper’s 2013 and all the fluid leaked out. That car wasn’t going anywhere! Luckily, Barry and Pat were able to hitch a ride in the DuBosky’s OTC (they sold their Vette and are waiting for their C7 to come in). (continued on page 12) 12 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 5th Annual Vettes on the Point "On Point!" (cont'd) Again this year CCR was given a good parking area at the water's edge with a shady area for setting up our chairs. Like past years, the Virginia Corvette Club had free pontoon boat rides for us and as hot as it was, I’m surprised nobody dove off the pontoon to cool off! It was 92 degrees, so we certainly didn’t need hoodies or sweatshirts this year. At the show, there were many different food vendors, wine vendors, music, and a silent auction. The National Corvette Museum was there again with merchandise and our CCR ladies stormed that area like it was Black Friday! There were many beautiful Vettes at this show, but only two C7s, and they were from CCR. Norma Bonner and Danny Terry won first place for her blue C7 and John and Susie Rhodes took 2nd place for their red C7. If Dave’s C7 would have come in right, CCR would have had three in the show. We won a trophy for Largest Club Participation again but CCR didn’t win the loudest exhaust this year. A late entry came in and took the trophy—see Bubba Carr for THAT story! After the show, we had a little time to rest back at the hotel before heading out to dinner. Bob found a new place for us-- Jake’s Place in Moneta, just a few miles away. It was a nice restaurant right on the lake but they had problems dealing with our large crowd. Obviously, serving 50 isn’t as easy as serving a table of four! After dinner, many weren’t ready to "call it a night" so the DuBosky’s invited everyone back to their condo to continue partying. Not us! It had been a long, hot day, and we were beat! We drove back to Mariners Landing and flopped into bed! We didn’t have a big caravan home on Sunday morning--people got up and left at their own pace. Our small caravan (Graham and Margaret and Tom and Merle) followed the flat bed tow truck carrying the Roper’s 2013 C6. I could read the Vette’s license plate, "Last C6," and THAT made me think of a funeral procession! No hearse...just a tow truck! Well, another of our annual events was over, and except for the Roper’s Vette breaking down and Dave not being in his C7, it was a great event. The venue at Parkway Marina is wonderful and it’s obvious that the Virginia Corvette Club works hard every year to make this show the success it is. We’re already looking forward to next year. (Haha--maybe Dave’s C7 will be delivered correctly by then!) On behalf of the Club, thank you Bob and Doris for all you did to make our participation so much fun again this year! (continued on page 13) 13 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 5th Annual Vettes on the Point "On Point!" (cont'd) P.S. When Dave and I pulled up to the October meeting the following Friday night, we saw a yellow C7 in front of the Wagner Building. Dave said, "That’s my Vette!" and sure enough it WAS the Vette we didn’t take. Apparently, Norma mentioned Dave’s Vette coming in wrong on Facebook and our Newsletter Editor, Jeremy, flew in from Oklahoma, bought it, and drove it to our meeting. We are so happy Jeremy bought it and know is has a good home now! 14 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 Lewis Little Collection Tour Shines By Bob & Doris Brody It was a cool, overcast morning as CCR set off on our eastward cruise along VA Route 10. Twenty shiny Corvettes were followed by two OTCs as we worked our way through Hopewell and wound past the soybean fields and forests. We picked up one more OTC and one more Corvette as the showers transformed into a light rain along our route. The rain abated, but clouds persisted for our arrival in Smithfield, 50 Members strong. Lewis Little greeted CCR at the front door of his showroom, then welcomed us in to view his wonderful collection of older and antique autos, automobile memorabilia, and various other antiques and collectables. He introduced us to his collection by telling us his greatest joy is buying the cars, and his second greatest joy is showing his collection. As we dispersed throughout the collection, Mr. Little happily answered questions about his prize possessions which include four stunning, like new, Corvettes: ’63 split window, fuel injected, Riverside Red, red interior ’65 convertible, 427, Nassau Blue, white interior ’67 coupe, 427 trip carbs, Goldwood Yellow, black interior ’69 coupe, 427, Monza Red, red interior The collection also includes several gloriously restored antiques, a couple of beautiful resto-rods, and a delightful ‘68 Chevelle 396 coupe. (See the CCR website photo section for pictures.) Following the tour, we proceeded across the Pagan River to Smithfield Station where we held drawings for the "50/100." Val Miser won 50% of the pot, $175, and Linda Stevens won $100. We then enjoyed a delightful lunch and the camaraderie of "The Greatest Corvette Club IN THE WORLD!" 15 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 A Winning Day at Heritage Chevrolet By Brent Tyree The 2013 event is now history and it seems to have been enjoyed and was successful for our contribution to be made to the Central Virginia Food Bank. We collected several containers of food and a tidy sum of cash for people in our area who need help in these times. After the event, Heritage, via Jay Burchell, told me that Heritage plans to match our monetary contribution to make it even more successful! We had cars from near and far, including a couple from Maryland that made the trip for our event. One was a full custom that was voted Best in Show and another driven in by a member we don’t get to see nearly enough. Thank you for coming! We had a good turnout for the beautiful day and several cars were able to come that had the event been on the original date, the owners wouldn’t have even had them yet--4 C7s. We had cars in all classes and when the voting was completed we had to rearrange trophy distribution a little to make sure we were able to recognize all of the classes. "Thank you" goes to Heritage for providing the trophies again...we do appreciate your continuing support! I would like to thank the many people who stepped up to help with all the show’s many areas which made it possible for me to end the day with a reasonable amount of sanity. When I arrived a little before 8:00 a.m., there were already arrivals to help with all the parking and arrangement in a participant friendly manner in lieu of the by class method we sometimes use. Terry had put up our banners to let the world know CCR was on the premises. Donna helped with registration all day and Peggy came to help with counting the ballots. I waited until the cars were in place and was able to pass out the goodie bags provided by Heritage as well as the ballots for judging to each participant in person, which made the day even more personal for my son and me. I want to thank all of you who helped in so many ways. From a morning cup of Starbucks to helping in every endeavor of the day. If you didn’t make it to this event you missed a good time and should think about supporting our dealer sponsor in the future. They did have a good sales day with some of our members making purchases in parts and sales. All of this does come back to us with their support to us. We completed the day with winners photos which we may see again in the future. Thanks to all of you for your support of this event. Hopefully, you will support future events and their ODs as much as you did for this event. 16 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 Heritage Chevrolet Show Photo Journal 17 CCRuisin’ NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 welcome New MembErs Deb Evans & Tom Watkins 2008 Black Coupe Brenda Niedermayer Wins Big! In order for me to place another order, I need to order in bulk (12 red, 12 black, 12 grey, etc.). So, if you think you’d like a hoodie (regular pullover or zipper), let me know and if we get to the 12 quantity level, I can place an order. You don’t pay until the merchandise comes in. Remember, these are MEN’s sizes and they run big. Also, if you want a color besides RED, BLACK, WHITE or GREY, let me know. It’s possible we can get it for you. As I mentioned at the last meeting, I can’t bring all my inventory to each meeting. So, if you hope to buy an item at a meeting, it would be best if you order online through our CCR website or call me at (804) 346-5266 and let me know what you want in what color and size. This way I’ll be SURE to bring it to the next meeting for you. All generations of Corvettes have a reputation for operating warmer than most of us would like. C1 and C2 Corvettes did not like to drive slowly, such as in parades, and C3s ran even warmer with the swoopy body narrowing the snout of the car. The issue got so bad that Zora Duntov is said to have been the one that first cut holes in the front splash panels under the bumper of the C3 to allow it to pick up air from underneath. That "bottom feeding" continued on into the C6 Corvettes. For those of us with "bottom feeders," there are some special maintenance things that need to done to keep them breathing right. The first item is to make sure you are using the proper antifreeze mixture. Always use the type and concentration called for in your owner’s manual. Next, remember that radiator and heater hoses wear out from the inside. As fluid flows through the hose, it wears away tiny bits of the hose lining. This is caused by friction created as fluid is forced through the hose. I recommend that hoses be replaced every five to seven years for most lightly driven Corvettes. There is also the issue of age and the effects of heat. These can cause hoses to fail after a few years. One quick way to test your hoses is to grab them and squeeze them. They should be flexible but not feel soft or mushy. If they feel soft or is there is any bulging anywhere on the hose, it’s time to replace them even if the replacement cycle time has not been reached. The third item is to always replace the thermostat when you replace the water pump. On the 19921996 models, your Optispark will tell you when to replace the water pump. When the water pump starts to fail and water leaks out of the weep hole at the bottom of the pump, it will fall onto the Optispark and seeps into the cap. When this occurs, Optispark failure is not far behind. Since the water pump must be removed to replace the Optispark, always install a new water pump when performing this repair. Finally, if your Corvette is a bottom feeder, every six months (more often if you notice an increase in operating temperature) clean out the debris, paper, sticks, feathers, small animals, and anything else that has been vacuumed into the radiator plenum area. Here is a photo of what my 2001 plenum looked like 6 months after cleaning and what I cleaned out from the air conditioning condenser and radiator. A few minutes with a small fox tailed brush and a vacuum cleaner and you might be amazed at what is hiding up there. Well I guess that is enough for this month. Remember that a little maintenance goes a long way toward keeping your Corvette fun to drive. Becoming a Member of the CCR In 1960, a small group of Corvette enthusiasts began to gather together on a regular basis for fun and fellowship. The first official Club meeting took place in July of 1961. CCR is the oldest Corvette club in Virginia with membership approaching 400. To be eligible for regular membership, you must be a person of good character and own a Corvette. You must attend at least one meeting or event. If you don’t own a Corvette, an “associate membership” is available. Associates can participate in all events and functions but have no voting rights. You’ll make good friends, have fun and learn more about Corvettes. Club meetings are at 7:30 p.m. on the second Friday of each month. After the meetings, there is usually a party where you can enjoy socializing with other club members. Annual dues are $25 for pilots or $35 for both the pilot and co-pilot (includes spouse or significant other). A membership application can be found on the CCR website: www.corvetteclubofrichmond.com. Your membership application must be approved by both the board and the club’s membership. Acceptance may take a couple of months. After your application is received, we’ll be in touch to fill you in on the process and answer any questions you may have.
