The Coopersburg Halloween Parade 2013 was a
great success. It was a cool and cloudy, with some
sun as the day went on. Crowds lining Main Street
were bigger than ever and were enthusiastic as
usual. The parade included four bands: Southern
Lehigh H.S. Marching Band, Southern Lehigh M.S.
Marching Band, Palisades H.S. Marching Band, and
the Geryville Hobo Band. Also included were various
Civic Organizations. Coopersburg, Upper Saucon,
Richland Township, Quakertown, Springtown, and
Lower Milford Fire Companies and the Upper Saucon
Ambulance Corps ended the divisions. A plaque was
presented to this year’s parade marshal, William H.
Miracle, of Coopersburg. Bill and his wife, Susan,
moved here 35 years ago. He’s worked 21 years with
the Historical Society’s Community Day (10 years
as co-chair), served on the SoLeHi School Board for
16 years, JOC Board of LCTI for 16 years, and was
Trustee at Large on the Board of Trustees for LCCC.
Judges for the parade were Samantha Bauer, David
Diaz, Tim Paashaus, Pam Page, and Marci Weaver.
John Marshall, parade chairman, would like to thank
the committee members and parade captains for their
hard work and devotion. Thanks also to the Police and
Fire Police for providing traffic control. The winners
were: SMALL MARCH: 1. “Granny & the Grandkids”
- Lindsey Wieand, Bethlehem; 2. Solehi High School
Dance Team; 3.“Horses and Dogs” - Last Chance
Ranch, Quakertown. LARGE MARCH: 1. “Reach for
the Stars” - Solehi Girl Scouts; 2. “Slide into Scouting”
- Cub Pack 334; 3. Solehi Youth Football. SPECIAL:
1. R&R Towing, Quakertown; 2. “Mini Vehicles” Norman Hunsberger, East Greenville; 3. “Honor
Armed Forces” - Rich Hanner, Hellertown. FLOAT: 1.
“Wizard of Oz” - Prudential Patt White; 2. “Caveman
Caravan” - American Pool Care, Quakertown; 3.

A one-act monologue Starring Linda Kenyon
From the moment Linda Kenyon hurries into the train
compartment that she will share with you for the next 45
minutes, you will forget that Eleanor Roosevelt died in
1962 at 78 years of age. Linda Kenyon is Eleanor Roosevelt. Her warmth and friendliness are immediately evident as the former First Lady candidly shares highlights
and low points in her amazing life. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet Eleanor Roosevelt.

Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours
to prepare. They are consumed in twelve

is not coincidence.

Guarantees are based on the financial strength and claims-paying ability of
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Interest rates are banded, which means a
higher rate is paid for higher premiums. Interest is compounded daily and
continues to accrue until a payout is chosen. Surrender charge schedule: Year
1–7%, Year 2–6%, Year 3–5%, Year–4%, Year 5–3%, Year 6–2%, Year 7–1%,
Year 8 and beyond–0%. Withdrawals or surrenders are subject to federal
income taxation. Contract owner may withdraw up to 10% of accumulated
value every year without surrender charges. Withdrawals in excess of 10% per
year are subject to surrender charges. Upon contract termination, Thrivent
Financial will pay no less than all premiums paid, less any previous withdrawals.
The bonus rate provides a higher interest rate for two full contract years. If the
two-year interest rate bonus is selected, a longer surrender charge period (nine
years instead of seven years) applies, and the return-of-premium benefit and
enhanced surrender benefit are not available. Distributions prior to age 59½
may be subject to 10% IRS premature distribution penalty.
Products issued by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans are available to applicants
who meet membership, insurability, U.S. citizenship and residency
requirements.

Chestnut Hill Church:
Celebrating 125 Years
Chestnut Hill Church, located in Lower Milford
Township, will celebrate the 125th anniversary of
the laying of the cornerstone for the present church
building on Nov. 17. During the 10am worship
service, the church’s religious history and heritage
will be traced. At 2pm will be a recount of CHC’s
story, placing it in the larger historical context of the
late 19th century. There’ll be some fun with a trivial
pursuit, multiple choice quiz to help understand
the church’s past, followed by a viewing of the
present and future in their cultural contexts. All are
welcome to both events. Lunch will be served and a
reception will follow the 2pm event. The completion
of a handicapped restroom, new office space, and
a major repair on the 140 foot high steeple will also
be celebrated. Chestnut Hill Church is a centuries
old landmark in the community. Although there’s
reason to believe the origins of the congregation
date to the 1720s, the present church building is
the third building atop Chestnut Hill, named for the
presence of chestnut trees in previous years. Come
join in celebration of history and God’s work in this
small corner of Lower Milford Township. Chestnut
