He is a very kind, willing and loyal horse who will always try whatever you ask. He also has a quite dry sense of humor and is amazingly possessive of his human! He is the first Arabian horse I ever owned and my first horse since high school too many years ago. He has been a patient and kind partner and I can only hope to give him the level of care he deserves. I am blessed to also own a half sister to him (TA Ballet Dancer- Line Dancer x Bajgora) who shows the same personality and fortitude and will soon be bringing home another 1/2 sibling to him (TA Kwik Dance- Line Dancer x Kabaret CS) to start his new off-track career. From a person who grew up around Quarter Horses and only thought this breed was just a bunch of crazy A-rabs, I have been completely re-educated and can not see myself partnering with any other breed! Sizedoesntmatter has stolen my heart. Gwen Hall PAGE 3 Photo courtesy of Paschal Karl (Karl Creations) E CAHS N E W SLE TTE R Photo by Lynne Glazer . PAGE 8 E CAHS N E W SLE TTE R Announcements From Sandy Warren Sandy wants me to let you know that she has started hospice care. While she has a while yet before she goes to her final reward her health has gotten to the point where certain preparations are needed. Hospice care provides inhome services as well as her chance to control her final moments. Sandy has had an amazing life. To think that a dream that started when she was eight years old has resulted in a line of Arabian horses that has gained acclaim around the world. At this moment one of the high points of her efforts will be seen at Scottsdale this year when five Aul Magic offspring and Aur Mystic Illusion will perform. Others of her breeding may appear also. Sandy is very appreciative of all the support that you have given her. We are also happy to say that the breeding of her horses will continue for some time to come. And hopefully we all will see many of them perform as well. You may know that Sandy has had "issues" with her health and it might be considered a miracle that she survived as long as she has. She has been blessed in many ways and the greatest blessing is that she and the line she created are immortal. PAGE 9 E CAHS N E W SLE TTE R Announcements John W. (Jack) Sims Youth Challenge Sad News Joan Kersh and Dan Sassie lost Dan's Arabian/Saddlebred riding horse, Maurice Sad News Joan Kersh and Dan Sassie lost Dan's Arabian/Saddlebred riding horse, Maurice Chevare fondly known as Dancer. Dancer suffered from uveitis, and was treated with a steroid. He developed laminitis in all four feet, and was taken to New Bolton Center, where all efforts failed to stop the progress of the disease. After a week, it became obvious that the only humane course was to put him down. Laminitis can be brought on by so many different thins that any horse owner might have to face the condition. On February 21st. (bad weather date February 28th.), Dr. Meagan Smith from New Bolton and the New Bolton Center resident farrier, Patrick Reilly will give a talk on laminitis at the P.A.H.A. SE District meeting. The meeting will take place at the New Bolton Center cafeteria at 1pm. Snacks will be served. ECAHS members are invited to attend. Please contact Joan Kersh-- 571-344-4899 or Jan Williams-302-367-8729. We are ready to kickoff another great year of the John W. (Jack) Sims Youth Challenge. Last year was filled with great projects and the participants did a fantastic job. Katrina Wallace (Age 6) won the "Junior" division with a colorful and picture-packed scrapbook of Arabians in many disciplines. Rachel Synden (Age 14) won the "Senior" division with her entry. She worked hard with her Crabbet Arabian to better her first level dressage score to more than 60%. Her journey was documented and submitted in a Powerpoint presentation. Sierra Synden (Age 11) was runner-up in the the "Junior" division and focused on Showmanship. Her interest was in learning and performing the best showmanship techniques. Sierra also submitted a Powerpoint presentation that documented her project, the lessons learned and goals reached. Last, but not least, was Mallory Evans (Age 13) runner-up in the "Senior" division who aimed to move from the practice ring to the show ring in Showmanship, Sport Horse and Dressage. Mallory submitted a Powerpoint presentation that included video of her work and lots of great pictures. Many thanks to them, their parents for supporting them and their mentors. ECAHS members, please consider becoming a mentor and encourage and support a youth in obtaining a goal they may have only dreamed of. Comments and suggestions are always welcomed and can be submitted to any Youth Challenge Committee Member. Your support is greatly appreciated. Vivian Mack, Chair , John W.
