Dear Parents and Guardians,
Although the weather certainly isn't an indicator that we are on our last leg of the school
year (or perhaps it is), the plethora of school activities currently taking place and the ones
being planned definitely are. Daily announcements are filled with cancelations and rescheduling of spring sports due to in climate weather. Senior exit presentations are taking
place daily, commencement planning is ongoing, preparation for AP exams , seniors are
organizing end of the year events, and our administrators are making plans for next school
year. Couple all of this with just trying to keep students focused on their school work can
be a challenge to say the least and definitely an indication that the school year is coming to
a close soon.
Overall, our students have done a commendable job this school year both academically and
behaviorally as a whole. Of course, we recognize the need for improvement in various areas as is the case every school year. Often though, we don’t give our students or staff
enough credit for their efforts and their contribution to the overall success of the high
school. Without the diligence, patience, and continued pursuit of excellence in the classroom by the CAHS staff, our school would be in a very sad state of affairs. Also, without
the commitment and cooperation from the majority of our students the same could be simply said. Lastly, but certainly not the least important, is the support and cooperation we
receive from each of you (our parents) throughout the school year. Some of your support is
behind the scenes simply by what you say and how you discuss CAHS with friends and
community members, or your attendance and support for school events and activities.
Others support the school by volunteering their time and effort a little more directly by
being involved in their child’s school activities and assisting teachers, sponsors, secretaries, etc. In any case, I would like all of you to know how much your efforts are truly appreciated.
We will make every attempt to keep our students focused on school until June 7th. Anything you can do on your end to help the cause would certainly be helpful. Summer will be
here before we know it, but until then, there is much to be accomplished.
SENIORS
Seniors must remember that all school fines must be paid prior
to picking up their cap and gown on May 30th. No exceptions!!
Please stop by the Media Center prior to May 30th, to see if you

CARMAN-AINSWORTH COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
MILLAGE - FACT SHEET
MAY 7, 2013
In December of 2012, the Board of Education approved a motion to ask the residents of the CarmanAinsworth School District to:
1) Renew the 18 mills on Non-Homestead Property (tax on business properties; no cost to taxpayer’s
primary residence)
2) Renew the half-mill (.5) levy for the District Building & Site Sinking Fund
3) Increase the District Building & Site Sinking Fund by half-mill (.5), for a total of one-mill (1.0)
The Building & Site Sinking Fund allows the District to continuously address the greatest facility
needs (including safety) in all District schools. The current cost to a resident with a $60,000 home
is $15 per year, which would stay the same with passage of the renewal. If the additional .5 mill is
approved, the same homeowner would pay a total of $30. How much will it cost me? For the calculation, please visit our website.
3. Potential future projects include; but are not limited to:
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Laboratory Classrooms
Security Upgrades
Building Renovations, Facility Enhancements and Infrastructure Improvements
Installation of Various Internal and External Signage
4. The 18 mills renewal on Non-Homestead property will not increase taxes for residents (principle
residence) whether it passes or fails. This tax generated approximately $6.8 million for the district
General Fund in 2011-12 and is estimated to generate $5.8 million next year.
Current law does not allow Building & Site Sinking Fund dollars to be used for:
Employee compensation - No Sinking Fund monies can be spent on salaries or benefits
Technology - Computers cannot be purchased
Equipment - Routine maintenance items cannot be purchased
Maintenance Work – Routine maintenance work cannot be purchased
Furnishings – New tables or desks cannot be purchased
Buses – No vehicles can be purchased

Test Scores
9th Grade students will be reviewing their
ACT Plan results in their math classes. This
information will be brought home by the students.
10th Grade ACT students will receive their
ACT Released results in the June report card
mailing.
11th Grade students should have received their
ACT scores directly from ACT. MME (scores
include ACT/WorkKeys/Michigan Items) won’t
be in until summer and will be distributed at
the beginning of school in the fall.
Dress Code Policy
Please discuss the high school’s dress policy with your child as outlined in the Student Handbook. With the onslaught of warm weather students are beginning to wear attire that is inappropriate for the school setting. This
includes items like mini-skirts, very short shorts, tank tops, low cut tops, pajama pants, etc. When students are
addressed about inappropriate attire they are given an opportunity to find something else to wear before calling
home or spending the rest of the day in the ISS room. Please monitor your child’s attire before sending them to
school.
Overdue Library Books
All library books are due back to the Media Center on Friday, May
24th! Please remind your child to return all books to the Media Center before that date.
Students can login to "Destiny", our library circulation system to view any outstanding materials or
fines that might be due at this time.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Good Luck
To all of the CAHS Spring
Sports Teams!

SENIOR EXIT PRESENTATIONS
A Senior Exit Presentation is required of all seniors
at CAHS. Presentations began on April 8, and will
continue through May 10. The presentation is a
culmination of the five years of career planning
that students complete while attending CAHS, beginning with their eighth grade year at CAMS. We
are glad to see so many parents and grandparents
coming in to observe
the presentations.
All senior students
are to be congratulated as they conclude this very important requirement
for graduation.
Congratulations to Mrs. Carrie Mattern for being selected as the
CAHS Saginaw Valley ‘Teacher of the Year.”

Instrumental Music Performance
The 15th Annual All-District Concert will take place
on Monday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the High School
Gymnasium. The concert will showcase all instrumental music students in grades 5-12. This year
we welcome back composer, Dr. Quincy Hilliard, as
he will conduct the premier performance of his
newest composition, "Arabic Dance", which was
composed specifically for this event. Admission to
the concert is free (donations accepted).
Band Concert
Erick is one of 50,000 students out of
approximately 1.5 million students nation wide
to meet the national testing requirements to
enter the 2014 National Merit Scholarship
Program. We wish Erick continued success as he
pursues the goal of being named a National
Merit Scholarship award winner. Good Luck!!
College Acceptance Letters
It’s that time of year when many seniors begin receiving their college acceptance letters. Some students will
also receive a financial package letter
showing them what scholarships
they’ve qualified for through the college. Please remind your child to
bring in ALL financial package
awards and all other awarded scholarships to the Guidance/Career center. Students should bring in their
financial package awards REGARDLESS if they are going to that specific college. Some students will receive several letters because they’ve
applied to several schools.
The Carman-Ainsworth High
School Bands and Orchestra will
perform in the Spring Concert on
Tuesday, May 14th, at 7:00 p.m.
in the High School Auditorium. The concert will
feature performances by the Orchestra, Freshmen
Band, Concert Band and Symphony Band. Admission to the concert is free (donations accepted).
Thank-you to all who have shown your support of
our program throughout the year. We hope you
will be able to join us for these performances!
