Athletic Department to Present New Award for Female Athletes
On December 16, 2015 our community lost a true pioneer in Indiana Girls'
athletics. Whiteland's very own Ruth Ann (Doub) Callon passed away at the
age of 85. In memory of her hard work and dedication to Girls' athletics the
WCHS athletic department has created an award (Ruth Ann Callon Award) in
her name for a female senior athlete. The criteria for this award will be: The
athlete must be a senior (female) and a multi-sport varsity letter winner.
Good character, sportsmanship, conduct and academics will be taken into
consideration as well.
Information about
Ruth Ann (Doub) Callon
Graduate of WCHS (1948) and
Franklin College (1952), with M.
Ed. From Butler University (1956)
and honorary D. Sc. from
Franklin College (2011)
She taught at WCHS from 1952-1955. While at Whiteland she coached Girls
Athletic Association teams in basketball and softball. While at Franklin
College she coached basketball, softball and track, along with other sports.
She was one of the first coaches to provide summer camps for high school
players and clinics for high school coaches. She served as Indiana Chairman
of the Girls and Women's Sports Division of the AAHPER to promote girls'
and women's sports. She also served on the first IHSAA Girls' Advisory
Board in 1973 to help coordinate girls' participation in organized sports and
tournaments. In 2005 she was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of
Fame, & the Indiana Fever named her one of fifteen Inspiring Women in 2009.
Senior Taylor Coffman recently broke the
school in record in the 300 hurdles with a

Sophomore basketball player Mackenzie
Blazek has been selected to participate in
the Top 100 workout for underclass players.

Inside Warrior Athletics - Mr. Sears, Director of Athletics
“Humble and Kind” – What a great song by Tim McGraw. How much better would our world
be if we simply followed the words in that song? This song encapsulates exactly what hopefully
athletics at Whiteland is teaching your son or daughter.
Men, do you hold the door for ladies when you enter a building or room? Do you say “please
and thank you” every chance you get? What a difference the relationships you have would be if
you simply said “please” and “thank you”. It is a sign of respect of the person you are talking to
and show you value them. The same goes for “yes, sir” and “no, yes”. In the world today in the
media, on TV and social media we have lost that “Golden Rule” of treating others the way we
would like to be treated.
“Don't steal, don't cheat, and don't lie”. I firmly believe some of the biggest
problems in today's youth is their ability to lie straight to your face and continue to
lie about something to the very end. Honesty in the world is a somewhat rare
commodity. If we could teach our youth about being honest in everything we could
begin to rebuild this country back to the great country it is.
“Stay Humble”….In today's world of college and pro sports where it is all about
ME it was refreshing to watch the NCAAA BB tourney when Villanova won and
how their coach reacted. You couldn't tell if they had just won or lost. It is great to
win and enjoy the victory but not at the expense of bringing the spotlight on
yourself. When you score a touchdown or hit a homerun, act like you have been
there and be gracious for the opportunity you have been given. Another example is
Andrew Luck. He always defects praise and and gives all the credit to his
teammates. Stay HUMBLE and KIND!

WHITELAND WARRIOR FOOTBALL
FRESHMEN SPRING PRACTICE CAMP 2016
To Warrior Freshmen Football Players and Parents
Our best classes that have come through our football program over the past 11 years have had one thing in common:
· They have gotten involved early with our training/preseason program at the High School.
This early involvement process involves learning the fundamentals, routines, expectations and techniques that will
allow them to be successful in 3 areas:
· Warrior Position Skill Development Program
· Warrior Group and Team Scheme Development
· Warrior Strength & Speed Development Program
Exposure to these important areas in a small group setting is what will be emphasized at the WHITELAND
FOOTBALL FRESHMEN SPRING PRACTICE CAMP 2016. We want to get a head start on improvement for the
coming 2016 season.
Athletes will participate in a week of preseason practice (outdoor / indoor) instructed by the Whiteland High School
Football and Strength Coaching Staffs. To maximize our week we need to have the entire team in attendance. All
students entering grade 9 interested in playing Whiteland High School Football next fall are welcome.
Your son and his classmates have shown they have the potential to be a special group with the ability to achieve
great things on the football field. The WHITELAND FOOTBALL FRESHMEN SPRING PRACTICE CAMP will give
him a chance to get to know the coaches, become a better football player and get a feel for what being a member of
the WHITELAND FOOTBALL FAMILY is all about so he can excel.

Chase Jones: A Warrior Who Enjoys Racing!
Senior Chase Jones has a passion for race car driving and by the nearly 100 plus victories
he has accumulated it is obvious that he has a talent in the sport. When not si ng
behind the wheel, Chase played football and wrestled for the Warriors during his four
year career. His racing venture began at an early age of 4 when his dad (who at the me
was working for Panther racing) took him to New Castle Motorsports Park. Chase was
immediately hooked and now 15 years later he con nues his racing dream. He will be
a ending IUPUI in the fall in hopes of earning a mechanical engineering degree. He
plans to con nue racing through college with aspira ons of moving up the racing ladder
from his current status with dirt sprint cars to Indy Lights and his ul mate goal would be
racing his way to the Indy cars. He currently is sponsored by Sonico (Greenfield) and Indy
Trading Post (Beech Grove). Chase claims that his biggest racing win was at the Rock
Island, IL Grand Prix when he as an 8th grader at
CPMS. His favorite Indy Car driver is Tony
Kanaan and he also enjoys watching Carl
Edwards and Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the
NASCAR circuit. The athle c department
would like to wish him the best of luck with
his racing career and who knows maybe
someday we will be watching Chase at
