BOOKS (INCLUDED IN THE CONFERENCE FEE) Each participant will receive a copy of the following books presented during the conference: This selection of arbitral awards rendered by arbitral tribunals under the VIAC Rules is meant to provide a unique and valuable insight into various interesting and challenging procedural and substantive issues which may be of benefit to users of arbitration and to practitioners in the field. This selection is a response to the call by users and practitioners for even greater transparency in commercial arbitration proceedings and for enhanced access to arbitral awards and their reasoning. In this respect, it is meant as a concrete step toward further fostering familiarity, predictability and confidence in relation to the international arbitral process. To that end, this publication has been made with the cooperation of renowned arbitration experts, who have also lent their annotations and comments to awards addressing particularly relevant and recurring issues. The collection of awards thereby attains the quality of a true reference work, with both historical and practical value for users and practitioners alike. This first volume is being published as a tribute to VIAC’s 40th anniversary in 2015. Since its inception in 1975, VIAC has administered more than 1,600 international arbitral proceedings with their seat in Austria and abroad. Further volumes are intended to follow. The Austrian Yearbook on International Arbitration 2015 is a collection of articles on issues in the realm of commercial as well as investment arbitration. The Yearbook is published annually. All contributions are of relevance to academics and practitioners in the field, which is also reflected by the composition of the authors of this edition. The contributions compiled in the current edition address a variety of topics, but predominantly focus on the applicable law in international arbitration. Further articles, inter alia, deal with • • • • • • The status of soft law in international arbitration, Corruption, Set-off in international arbitration, Costs, Diplomatic Protection under Investment Treaties, or The recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards in the United Arab Emirates.
