Ohr HaTorah has benefited in immeasurable ways from Judah and Nina’s unwavering devotion and spirit of volunteerism. Over the past 10 years, both Judah and Nina have devoted countless hours to enhancing every facet of the Shul. Judah served three years as vicepresident, compiled the Shul email list, managed the Shul’s weekly announcements, coordinates the daf yomi shiurim and has been a member of the nominating committee. Judah’s enjoyable and entertaining Purim shpeils have been a Purim highlight over the years. Nina has cochaired the youth committee, served on numerous shaloch manos committees, dinner committees, building committees, including her instrumental role in the purchase of the Shul’s new property, shopped for, stuffed, and prepared candy bags for Simchas Torah. Most importantly, both Nina and Judah have been and continue to be willing and able to help out at any time for any Shul function to make it run smoothly and have contributed in behind the scenes capacities which are not always recognizable to others. The Eizikovitzes are equally involved in community work outside of Ohr HaTorah, including their involvement with Project Ezrah, Nina’s work as a liaison to the town of Bergenfield and Judah’s role as a member of the Board of Directors of the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey. In their professional lives, Judah is an analyst at NorthStar Capital Funds and Nina is a realtor at Links Residential. Judah and Nina are the proud parents of Ayelet, Aryeh, Shayna and Emmy, each of whom follow in their parents’ example, and can always be counted on to be involved in any and every way possible. Ruchi and Jonathan Tiger Ohr HaChesed Service Award It is our privilege to honor Jonathan and Ruchi Tiger with the Ohr HaChesed award. Both as a couple and as individuals they exemplify models of chesed and represent everything that Ohr HaTorah stands for. In their characteristically understated manner, they commit themselves to both the spiritual and physical needs of the Shul as well as the needs of the greater community. Jonathan and Ruchi prioritize involvement and giving. Jonathan has served as vicepresident of the Shul and is currently a board member. He is an outstanding Baal Korai who strives for perfection each and every time he lains and our Yamim Noraim have been greatly enhanced by his exceptional skills as our Baal Tokayah since 2008. Ruchi has served on the Ohr HaTorah dinner committee, the sisterhood welcoming and chesed committees as well as the shaloch manos committee and has been on the board of the Teaneck Mikvah Association for 6 years and currently serves as treasurer. Professionally, Jonathan is a periodontist and Ruchi is a tax accountant. Jonathan and Ruchi understand the importance of setting an example for the entire community by giving both of their time and resources, but they are not just active community participants themselves; they encourage their children to be involved in the Shul and community as well. Ruchi and Jonathan are the proud parents of Efraim, Leora and Azarya. It is an honor to recognize Jonathan and Ruchi Tiger at our 2nd annual dinner with the Ohr HaChesed Service Award. Letter from Rabbi Sobolofsky There are two themes associated with the celebration of Shavous. In our Tefilla we emphasize "Zman Matan Torahsenu," thereby highlighting the theme of Kabbalas HaTorah. The Torah calls Shavous the "Yom HaBikkurim." This refers to the Korban of the two loaves of bread that is brought on Shavous. It is this Korban that begins the season of bringing Bikkurim, one’s first fruits, to the Beis HaMikdash. What is the connection between our celebration of Matan Torah and the offering of Bikkurim? The Mitzvah of Bikkurim teaches us to appreciate the gift of Eretz Yisrael with the proper perspective. As we offer Bikkurim, we recite the Pesukim a cknowledging our connection to Eretz Yisrael as the land of our forefathers. At the same time, we express our gratitude about bringing our new fruit as we look upon Eretz Yisrael as not only a heritage but also as a gift of the present, It is this dual theme of simultaneously relating to a gift of the past with the freshness and excitement of the present that must be our mindset as we approach Kabbalas HaTorah. Our Torah study and Mitzvah observance are part of a legacy that goes back over three thousand years; yet, we approach them with the enthusiasm of one of is learning Torah and performing Mitzvos for the first time. At Ohr HaTorah we try to constantly be cognizant of these two aspects of Ahavas Hashem. Combining a deep commitment to the Mesorah we have received from our parents and our Rebbeim, we are well aware that we are a link in a chain going back so many generations. Yet, we strive to have a freshness and vitality as we create a place of Torah, Tefilla and Chesed for ourselves and our children. It is the commitment and devotion of our entire Ohr HaTorah family to these ideals that has made our Shul the inspiring place that it is. On behalf of Efrat and myself and our entire family, I would like to wish a special Mazel Tov to Judah and Nina Eizkovitz and Jonathan and Ruchi Tiger for all that they have done to help transform the dreams we all have into reality. Thank you to all of our officers and board members for their work on behalf of our Shul. We could not have had this beautiful dinner without the tireless efforts of our dinner co-chairs Avraham Simcha and Aviva Adler and Yehuda and Shira Isenberg and the entire dinner and tribute journal committee. Our Aliyah L'Regel coordinated by Sruli Rothwachs and Phil Gross is a testament to the central role that Torah has in our Shul. May Hashem continue to bless us as we move forward in our project to build both a physically and spiritually beautiful home for Avodas Hashem. Rabbi Zvi Sobolofsky Message from the Officers Dear Members and Friends, We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Ohr HaTorah’s second annual dinner. Just one year ago, we celebrated our ten-year milestone of achievement and it is now, only one year later, that we have far surpassed our vision, goals and expectations. Ohr HaTorah has established itself to be a beautiful makom tefila and bais medrash, with inspiring shiurim by our Rav. Our families are blessed to have Rabbi and Rebetzin Sobolofsky as role models and leaders of our community. We are also proud of our youth department that models our shul’s values, which encourages our children’s spiritual growth. Now is the time that we plan ahead and take the next step that will enhance and enable our shul to complete this journey together as the Ohr HaTorah family. Building a new Shul, has not only been a dream, but has now become a reality. With our members’ support and generous contributions, we will IYH celebrate our new building in the future. At this time, we would like to wish a Mazel Tov to Nina and Judah Eizikowitz and Ruchi and Jonathan Tiger on their well deserved honor. From the first day that the shul opened its doors, you both have been the driving force behind our shul’s accomplishments. Your commitment and dedication as pillars in our community have made an everlasting impact in our shul. We encourage everyone to get involved as Ohr HaTorah continues to grow together. With Hashem’s help, may we continue down this inspiring path towards our new home, and continue to be a makom tefilah and torah for our families. Ari Katz Aaron Kopstick Binny Baum Avrami Tabacznik Avraham Simcha Adler Letter from the Dinner Committee On behalf of the Dinner Committee, we would like to thank the many Ohr HaTorah families and friends who have contributed to the success of our 2nd dinner and journal campaign. Nina and Judah From the Honorees Thank you to our parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack and Bonnie Eizikovitz & Mr. and Mrs. William and Gail Hochman for all of your love and support. You are true role models. Nina & Judah From the Honorees Thank you to our dear children, Ayelet, Aryeh, Shayna, and Emmy for your patience and understanding. Mommy & Tatty From the Honorees Mazel Tov to Ruchi and Jon Tiger on their well deserved Ohr HaChesed Service Award. You exemplify chesed and service of the community both in your formal rolls in and outside of Shul and the less formal roles that often go unmentioned and unnoticed. We consider ourselves fortunate to have known you and learned from your example growing up in Fair Lawn and in camp (though writing any more about that may constitute Onaas Devarim) and are especially glad that our paths have crossed once again in this wonderful community. May HKB”H continue you to give you the Koach to contribute to our Shul and all of Klal Yisrael. Nina & Judah From the Honorees With the utmost gratitude and appreciation, we would like to thank all those who put in tremendous time and effort to ensure this dinner would be a success.
