Isopad® Specialty Heaters are electric heating solutions that include products
like self-regulating or mineral insulated heating cables, heating tapes, silicone
heaters, heating jackets, heated hoses, and radiant and drum heaters. This
brochure highlights the Isopad drum heaters.
Drum Heater Offerings
Tyco Thermal Controls offers a range of drum and base heaters that provide a
reliable way to heat up media in a drum to reduce viscosity, protect it from frost,
and enable the liquid to be easily removed from the drum. Our range of drum and
base heaters are suitable for nonhazardous and hazardous locations and come
with reliable temperature control—making these ideal heating solutions for liquid
and viscous products that are stored in drums, for example:

heating for viscous liquids
Liquefying and Temperature Control of Viscous Media
Do you store media in drums that need to be heated or require that the media be
maintained in a liquid or semi-liquid form? Before processing can begin, most
media stored in drums require heating to reduce viscosity and to enable the liquid or
semi-liquid be easily removed from the drum. Other media stored in drums require
temperature maintenance for a period of time to ensure that the media is maintained
in its liquid or semi-liquid form.
The Isopad range of drum heaters are available for hazardous and nonhazardous
locations, can heat metal and plastic drums and will heat to 300°C.

Temperature control of the drum
contents lets you easily heat up the
liquid to your desired temperature so
you completely remove and optimize
the usage of the liquefied product.
With Isopad drum heaters, you have
a clean and compact way to attain
uniform surface heating of drums.
With a unique “clam shell” design and
castors, our drum heaters can simply
be wheeled up to, and closed around
the drum. The clam shell design also
allows the heater to be stored open,
against a wall taking up less space.
Castors are antistatic and have parking
brakes to prevent heater movement
while in use.
Solid construction
All the drum heaters are manufactured
in heavy gauge sheet steel with a
double skin construction that houses
the electric heating elements that cover
the entire inner surface. The heating
elements are provided with reinforced
thermal insulation to prevent heat loss
through the outer wall.

We first gained ATEX certification in
2006 and currently have both IECEx
and ATEX certifications to the latest
European standards. Drum and base
drum heaters for hazardous areas are
equipped with a self-regulating heating
system that does not require a separate
temperature limiter for compliance with
the temperature class.
Electrical supply
options
Our nonhazardous drum heaters are
available for single and three-phase
operation (230 V / 400 V). Drum
heaters for hazardous locations are
available for single-phase only.

Liquefying and Temperature Control of Viscous Media
In addition to individual drum heaters, we have the following options available:
Drum/base drum heater set
Drum and base drum heaters can be supplied as a single unit that requires only
one power supply where the drum heater controller maintains the temperature for
both heaters. The drum and base drum heater set provide rapid heat-up times and
extremely uniform temperature distribution of the product stored in the drum.
Base drum heater
The base heater comes with a thermostat that is mounted on a stable support
bracket and can be set to the required heating surface temperature. A cover
protects the thermostat’s rotary switch which is used to set the desired
temperature. Individual base heaters have a separate connecting cable for the
power supply.
Insulated lid
The Isopad drum heater comes with a non-insulated lid as standard. We also offer
an insulated lid for drum heaters that helps reduce heat loss and allows for more
rapid heat-up time. This optional lid has reinforced thermal insulation, and can
be ordered separately.

Approvals and Certifications
The Isopad product range offers drum and base heaters with IECEx and
ATEX Certification for temperature classes T2, T4 and T6.
The IDR/IBDR product series is designed for use in nonhazardous locations,
while the FIDR-SR/FIBDR-SR product range is designed for operation in
hazardous locations and has ATEX system approval for temperature classes
T2, T4 and T6, depending on the heater cable used.
These units, with self-regulating heating systems, conform to the
international standards IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-18:2004, IEC 60079­
1:2003; IEC 60079-30-1:2007; IEC 60079-7:2001; IEC 60079-11:2006; IEC
61241-0, -1, and European standards EN 60079-0, EN 60079-18:2004,
EN 60079-1:2003, EN 60079-30-1:2007, EN 60079-7:2001,EN 60079­
11:2006, EN 61241-0, EN 61241 -1, and are designated as electrical
equipment Ex d e IIC (T6, T4 and T2) for drum heaters or Ex e ia m IIC
