REGION OVERVIEW: EMILIA-ROMAGNA
EMILIA-ROMAGNA
Emilia-Romagna, located in the north of Italy, is
so named for the road called the Aemelia, which
was built by the Romans to cross from the capital
on the Western Coast over to the Adriatic Sea. It
is famed for being the food capital of Italy, producing such international favorites as Prosciutto di
Parma, Parmigiano Reggiano, and of course Lasagna Bolognese. It also boasts a superior Viticultural
sector, and is 4th among Italy’s 20 regions for wine
production. 33% of its wines are DOC/DOCG
recognized, and 60% are reds. Of all the wines
produced in Emilia-Romagna, the best known is
Lambrusco. A native vine with a 2,000 year old
history in the land, it is true staple in the Italian
diet, and has been for centuries. Indeed, when the
Seven Country Study was conducted in the early
20th century, scientists were intrigued by how the
Emiliani could remain so fit, despite their high-fat
diet. This was attributed, in part, to certain properties
of the Lambrusco grape that appear to help counteract
the fattiness of those foods.

BRAND SUMMARY
SUMMARY
Riunite, America’s #1 and best-loved Italian Red Wine for over 4 decades, is the leading producer of
classic wines from Central Italy’s Emilia-Romagna Region, home to prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano
Reggiano and balsamic vinegar.
In 1950, nine wine producers from the agriculturally rich Emilia-Romagna region, home to many of
Italy’s famed indigenous alimentary products, “united” to form the Cantine Cooperative Riunite.
The Cooperative’s goal was to not only reflect the outstanding wine historically produced in agricultural
Emilia, but to join forces in dynamic synergy which would transform small village wineries and individual
farmers into a highly respected world-class concern that would never forget its roots and core values.
With the 1967 introduction of Riunite Lambrusco in the U.S., Riunite quickly became an American
phenomenon, introducing millions of consumers to their first taste of wine and igniting the country’s
love affair with Italian wine. With the memorable jingle “Riunite on Ice, That’s Nice,” Riunite became
America’s #1 imported wine in 1976 and held that position for a remarkable 26 years, setting sales records
that remain unmet by any other import.
In 1993, Riunite was the first winery in Europe to receive the prestigious ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 Quality Certification, guaranteeing that every stage of wine production meets the most stringent
quality standards.
THREE KEY SELLING POINTS:
1. #1 Imported Wine in US History:
In the US alone, Riunite has sold over 165
million cases to date.
2. Riunite is an Iconic Brand with a rich heritage and tradition of making quality wines.
3. Appealing, Drinkable Wine: Riunite’s portfolio of wines are all soft, and semi-dry, with a forthright fruitiness that appeals to the American palate.

KEY PLAYERS
Vanni Lusetti - Winemaker
“I was born here in Italy’s beautiful Reggio Emilia and I’ve been making wine for
most of my life. …As I see it, there should be no snobbery involved in either making or drinking the wine. That’s why I put a lifetime of expertise to work every day
creating wine that people like me can enjoy not only at the table, but while reading,
listening to music, or cheering for the local team. Our region is proud of a winemaking tradition dating back over 2,000 years.” –Chief Winemaker, Vanni Lusetti.
Chief Winemaker Vanni Lusetti is a
native of the Emilia region, the heartland of Lambrusco, known for its fine food and thriving agriculture. Having been raised in an area with such a
strong heritage of agriculture and such an abundance
of vineyards, Vanni soon discovered his passion for
winemaking. He pursued his oenological studies
and earned his degree in Winemaking at the famed
university in Conegliano Veneto. During his tenure
as a winemaker after graduating, he has continued
his studies in Winemaking and Winegrowing, as well
as in Marketing and International Business.
Vanni joined Cantine Riunite in the 1970’s and
after just a few short years, owing to his passion

for his job and dedication to creating great wines,
he quickly achieved the position of Chief Winemaker. In 2003, Mr. Lusetti was also appointed
to the position of General Manager of Cantine
Cooperative Riunite.
More than just a job, winemaking has always
been a passion for Vanni, and after many years,
he still has the same enthusiasm and devotion.
His purpose is to make and sell wines that are
approachable and enjoyable with all types of
food. Lambrusco and Trebbiano Moscato with
their soft and pleasant frizzante style are perfect
for this mission!
