Taos Ski Valley, located in the Rockies, just below the Colorado border in New Mexico is one of the world’s most unique and
picturesque ski resorts. Here you can escape to, what has been described as, a blend of Swiss/French/Austrian founders' roots with
the traditions and customs of the local Hispanic and Pueblo Indian cultures melding into something unique and almost magical. Home
of extreme skiing in the U.S, but, it is not just a resort for experts, having loads of beginner and intermediate runs, and a great ski
school. Taos used to be skiers' only, but no more starting in 2008. Snowboarders are also welcome. These slopes cover 1,294
beautiful acres of excellent skiing with up to 2,612’ lift served vertical drop (3,274 with Kachina Peak Hike), 110 trails (24% beginner,
25% intermediate, 31% advanced and 20% expert runs). Taos is also blessed with an average annual snow fall of over 305”, 322” last
year. Après: The Taos tribe will traditionally gather for beer and margaritas on the deck of the St. Bernard before migrating to Tim’s
Stray Dog Cantina in the village center for enchiladas doused in green and red chile sauces. The resort is tucked in at 9,200 feet in a
box canyon amid the Sangre de Cristos; the small Alpine-style base village has a smattering of hotels, condos, restaurants and ski
shops. You could easily spend your whole vacation here, but the town of Taos, 20 some miles away, offers plenty of reasons to
venture out: galleries, museums and first-rate restaurants. http://www.skitaos.org, http://www.taosskivalley.com
