Spring - Summer 2013
Company’s First Cinnabons open
On Friday, April 5, the Bosselman Companies’ first Cinnabon
location opened inside Pump & Pantry #49 at 370 Express in
Omaha. A line of customers and their families formed early in
the day for lots of Cinna-goodness! “It was really exciting to see
people lining up for a freshly made Cinnabon. Everyone was
cheerful and in a great mood as they were served with a smile.
One customer said that he wasn’t allowed to come home unless
he brought home some Cinnabons for the family! He bought
two 15-packs!” says Bobby Wolf, Bosselman Branded Foods
Manager. Pump & Pantry District Manager Josh Severson
comments, “The fresh baked Cinnabon signature smell was so
irresistible that our guests couldn’t help but make a purchase!”
Additional Cinnabon locations have also opened inside
Pump & Pantry stores in Fremont (May 10) and Grand Island
(May 24) on Capital Ave. and South Locust Street. Slated for
June openings are Aurora and St. Paul.

Danger Football has best season on record
The Nebraska Danger is having its best season in
their 3-year history in 2013. Through 11 games, the
Danger owns a 7-4 record and is in the driver’s seat
for an IFL playoff berth. It has been an impressive
progression for the Danger, as they had won just eight
games total in their first two seasons.
Offensively, the Danger is led by IFL player-of-theyear candidate Jameel Sewell. Sewell leads the IFL
in three offensive categories: passing yards (1,968),
touchdowns (38) and fewest interceptions (three). He
is also fourth in the league with 454 yards rushing
and 16 touchdowns.
Wide receiver Kayne Farquharson leads the league
in receiving yards (868) and is second in receptions
(61) and third in touchdowns (17) on the season.
The Danger offense is one of the most exciting in the
league averaging 51.1 points per game.
The Danger have been opportunistic on defense
under head coach Mike Davis. They have three players
– Maurice Simpkins, Pig Brown and Carl Gettis – in
the top-20 in the league in tackles and are tied for
second in the league with 20 forced turnovers.
With three games left, the Danger are playing for
the top seed in the Intense Conference and a chance
to host their first ever playoff game at the Heartland
Events Center in Grand Island. Currently, the Danger
is just behind the Colorado Ice, who own a 7-3 record.
The Danger defeated the Ice twice this season, but
the teams will meet again on June 7th with the home
field advantage for a playoff game on the line.

SPRING/SUMMER2013
Pump & Pantry celebrates with two Grand Openings
After a fire destroyed the Chapman Pump & Pantry on May
23, 2012, the Bosselman Companies were pleased to celebrate
the opening of the all-new re-built store on Friday, February
15. Students and staff from Chapman Public School cut the
ribbon on the store at 2:30 pm. This store introduces the new
“Hometown” building concept that the Bosselman Companies
will utilize for future builds and remodels. A new streamlined
look, contemporary design and upgraded ambience highlight
the new structure. A turret serves as a coffee bar area, and
the interior features hard surface countertops and cherry
woodwork for a modern appeal. At just under 2,000 square
feet, the store still offers all the amenities of a 3,000+ square
foot store. A new mascot, Bones, the Pump & Pantry Husky
dog, will welcome customers at the main entrance.
A full selection of hot drinks and fountain beverages, bottled
drinks, snacks, beer, and quick-serve foods is available at the
store, as well as quality fuels.
Bosselman Companies President Charlie Bosselman states,
“We are pleased to be able to rebuild our Chapman store as
well as roll out a brand new look and feel to our line of Pump &
Pantry locations. We are grateful to the community of Chapman
for supporting us in the past and look forward to being back in
the community in the near future. This store will continue to
provide quick, friendly hometown service to our Chapman area
customers.”
The Chapman Pump & Pantry, which was originally a Skelly
gas station, was purchased in the late 1970s. It was later razed
and rebuilt on the same property in the 1980s.
The Bosselman Companies celebrated a Grand Opening at the
York I-80 Pump & Pantry convenience store, at 3901 S Lincoln
Ave. in York on Friday, February 8. A ribbon cutting with the York
Chamber of Commerce was held at 10:30 am.
KAWL/KTMX Radio hosted a live remote, with prizes given out by
the store and a registration to win one of several gas cards. Bones,
the Pump & Pantry mascot, greeted guests and Grand Opening
Specials included 2/$1.00 Hot Dogs and a free bag of Popcorn with
the purchase of any size fountain drink!
Pump & Pantry re-opened in a brand new building at the same
location. The new building, built directly behind the former location
north of Exit 353, is managed by Kathy Sanner. The new, larger
Pump & Pantry offers a more streamlined shopping experience,
featuring more fuel pumps and a larger parking lot, an expanded deli
offering including f’Real shakes, and a contemporary interior design
with hard surface countertops and cherry woodwork for a modern
appeal and warm, upgraded ambience. Conveniently located off
I-80 Exit 353, the store carries a full selection of hot drinks and
fountain beverages, bottled drinks, snacks, beer, and quick-serve
foods, as well as quality fuels. Bones, the Pump & Pantry Husky
dog, and a friendly staff welcome customers.
Bosselman Companies President Charlie Bosselman stated,
“We are excited about this brand new Pump & Pantry convenience
store building at the busy York interstate exit. The new store will
continue to provide excellent service to our customers, in a new and
modern environment.”
Celebrity visits Broken Bow
Famous wrestler Shawn Michaels, aka “HBK”, stopped by the Pump &
Pantry in Broken Bow on April 15. Manager Jessica Hardisty says, “It was so
awesome to have a celebrity in our store. Shawn is such a nice guy and very
funny. He said that they would be back!”

Call from John Roberts:
He drives for JRH Farms out of Bruce, MS. He wanted to tell me about his
day. It started in Cincinnati at 4 AM, and the temp is 17 below. He had a load
of produce that’s temperature sensitive, and his reefer isn’t working. He went
to a TA, removed his battery and carried it a mile across the parking lot to ask
them to load test it. They wanted to charge him $48, and didn’t have the correct
equipment to do a load test. Next he went to a Love’s and they had a voltage
meter, but for some reason it wasn’t working.
John Roberts told me that several hours later he limped into the Corbin Boss
Shop, and Chris and Justin went way above and beyond to help him. They were
cordial, compassionate, sympathetic, empathetic…. he went on and on. Most
importantly, they were knowledgeable, knew what they were doing, and got his
reefer to work!! (Now it won’t shut off, but he was ok with that!)
John mentioned that he absolutely refuses to ever use Petro, and usually was
in the habit of going to Love’s. However, this experience totally turned him off on
using TA, and made him a huge fan of Boss Shops. He said he’ll go to Boss Shops
whenever possible now.
Let me start off with telling you my name is Josh Bergmeier, I am a Charter
Communications Tech and also a dad. On Friday April 5, 2013, I was in the parking
lot of Autumn Apartments on State Street, just finishing up with a customer that lives
there. A van with Danger stickers on it pulled into the parking lot and was driving thru,
a few minutes later as I was pulling out of the parking lot that same van came around
the corner, waving me down. I pulled over and two guys jumped out and ran over to
my truck, D’Angelo McCray and Tommy Chavis, they ask me if I had time to come over
to their house and get tv and internet hooked up for them, that the soonest that we
could get out there was a week from Monday. McCray said that the lady at the office
had told him that if they could find someone to slip it into their schedule that we could
reschedule it for that day. I look at my route and decided that I had time to get them set
up. So I hooked up there cable and internet. They had told me stop by later around 7:30
Friday night after they got done with practice. So me and two of my three boy, Corbin age
7 and Jace age 3, while my third one was at his moms house otherwise he would have
been there also, stopped by and Joe Houston answered the door and invited us in. They
were great with my two boys, they were all high fiving and pounding it with them. Pretty
sure that Jace thought McCray could have been a giant. We got some autographs and
told them we would see them at the game and good luck.
We went to the game and sat in sec. 206 row 4 next to the tunnel, as the game
had ended I had told Corbin to go over and high five the players as they walked to the
locker room, which he gladly did. Corbin missed Joe as he walked by, so Corbin yelled
out “Hey Joe”, which Joe turned around and recognized him and came back to get a
five. We stayed after the game to get autographs again from the players. Corbin had
worn his Danger shirt so he went on a mission to only get the three guys autographs on
his shirt, while getting autographs from everyone else on the team photo. It was great
that not only those three signed his stuff, but everyone else too. As we walked around
I was impressed by your players as they all took their time with their fans to sign stuff,
take pictures, talk, smile and have a good time with everybody.
But, my story does not end there. For those three guys had made me a hero with
my son. On Monday morning as Corbin was getting ready to walk to school, I was going
thru the usual routine and giving him a high five as he was headed out the door. He
stopped me, gave me a big hug and told me, “Dad, thanks for the football guys and the
game and getting to go over and see them at their house.”
So I want to thank you for having guys on your team that are great with the kids, and
that will take time to recognize them and talk to them. I hope that there are more dads
out there that have and will get to be a hero for their sons as well. I hope that you can
share this with the coaching staff and let them know that they have guys that not only
can play football but also take the time with the kids. Thanks again, for this is a story that
I will not forget for a very long time.

Call from Walt Gilbert, Walt’s Trucking:
He said that he gets all his service work done
at the Gary Boss Shop. He knows everyone
there, and they know him, too…. Like family.
He said that he recently had a medical
emergency while he was at the Gary Shop.
The employees on duty called an ambulance
for him, and made sure his truck was
secured and taken care of. He called today
to let us now know how much he appreciated
them going the extra mile for him. He wanted
management to know what a great team we
have at the Gary Shop!!
Great job! Way to support the Bosselman
Mission Statement!!
Call from Jim Christopher, Christophers
Transport Inc.:
Jim is a minister and a truck driver. He’s
leased to Swift, and hauls a dedicated
route AZ to Atlanta which takes him through
Weatherford all the time.
He wanted management to know that he’s
been stopping at Weatherford for a long
time, (even before we took it over), and he
has noticed improvements in the facility,
and consistent great customer service he
receives there. He said that Robert Blue is
honest and easy to talk with.
He also said that the employees are happy
there and everyone gets along great. He
mentioned how important reputation is and
that word of mouth is the best advertising.
He said that he and the drivers he talks to all
agree, “They trust the team at Weatherford to
take good care of their trucks.”
GREAT JOB, Robert, and the team at
Weatherford!!!! Thank you for all you do!!!
From Fargo Motel 6 - I just recently had
a conversation with a guest this morning
that I would like to share with everyone.
Mr Fredricks came down to the lobby and
complimented us on our location stating that
“our Motel 6 was very nice to his surprise, one
of the best he had stayed in.” As we talked
further he stated “the only other comparable
stay he had recently was at a Motel 6 that
was in Big Springs, Nebraska!” I proceeded
to inform him that both locations were owned
by Bosselman’s and that we set a standard
for ourselves far above the rest! Mr. Fredricks
was very pleased to know that Bosselman’s
is buying motels and turning them into quality
places to stay. Mr. Fredricks travels a lot and
has been very displeased with the decline
happening in the Motel industry with regards
to quality and cleanliness.

We stopped on our way from Michigan to
Colorado Springs at your rest stop station in
Grand Island, Nebraska and were so amazed
at how great your facility was. Your staff, Julie
and Arla, were so helpful. We had in one
party of seven, a 6 month old baby and they
helped us in getting a warm drink for him.
Your staff is so helpful and friendly and just
wanted to let you know. We will be making
the trip again in about a month and again
plan on stopping at your facility. Thanks for
having such great staff!

Pump & Pantry opens 48th store
As I write this, I am embarrassed at the
amount of time that has passed since
your incredible act of kindness to me and
my family and my failure to again thank
you. I have told and written of the story of
your exceptional generosity dozens, if not
hundreds, of times. To each, it is as much
of a wow moment as it was for my family
and me on that amazing Christmas Day.
Thank you!
Thank you for helping us get to my
sister’s place in Boulder. Thank you as
well, for giving another, opposing voice to
the sentiment that this world is getting
cold and callous and selfish. Your act
was one that restores other’s sense of
the world around them that trusting and
giving to a stranger is not unthinkable. I
am a pastor at a church south of Overton,
NE (Westmark Evangelical Free Church)
and our fellowship and many of my
friends in the communities of Bertrand,
Loomis, and Overton have been touched
by your action.
People ask me, “Why would she do that
for you? How did she know that you
could be trusted? Did she know you
were a minister?” To which my answer
is, other than having my credit card and
information, she knew none of that,
though maybe the fact I was wearing a
sweater vest helped. Few criminals wake
up thinking that the attire for the day is
a sweater vest. And it was Christmas. I
don’t know what your motivation was,
but again, thank you! You have given us
a Christmas to remember. A Christmas,
not about what things we got, but about
receiving an exceptional gift of kindness,
trust and grace.
“Take my truck,” she said. We said,
“What?” “You have plans in Boulder? And
that guy is going to fix your car tomorrow?”
She asked. And we said, “Yes.” And she
said again, “Take my truck.” So we did.
What she called a truck, we would call a
Cadillac Escalade. Truly astounding.
I don’t know what kind of faith you have,
if any. But you have encouraged us
tremendously. May God bless you. If you
need anything, please feel free to ask.
Amazed,
Rick (Francis) and Betty Lou Smith,
Loomis, NE – via letter
Friday night we stayed in the Motel 6 at York on
our way to Lincoln. I just wanted to tell you how
impressed both my husband and I were with
the motel. We arrived around 10:30, and had
already made plans to stay there. The motel
was very busy and I can see why, the rooms
were AWESOME. I loved them, I could have
stayed there instead of going on to Lincoln to
the wedding. It is one of the nicest places that
we have stayed in. You guys did a wonderful job
with the remodel. We had stayed there quite
a few years back, when it was a mess. It is so
much nicer. I just wanted you to know what we
thought of it, and the job that you did on it.

Call from Mike Hansen to pass along his
compliments for the Ft. Chiswell Shop. Here’s
a few of the things he said:“Dave Dillon runs a
tight ship.” “I appreciate the wonderful job they
do.”
“I especially appreciate Kayla, Anthonie and
Robert, and I hope you folks do, too!” Dave, Kayla,
Anthonie, Robert and everyone at Ft. Chiswell:
WE DO APPRECIATE YOU and everything you do
for our customers!!!Congratulations, and keep
up the great customer service!!!
Call from Lee Moore to express his thanks to
Glenn Graham at Evansville for helping him out
this morning:
Lee accidentally locked his keys and his phone
in his truck, and Glenn let him use his personal
phone so that he could get the assistance he
needed to get on his way. Lee appreciates
Glenn’s great customer service!
Sent to Helen Batenhorst, Manager of the
Grand Island Food CourtLast Monday I made
the mistake of leaving my purse in your area.
When I discovered my mistake, I called to see
if it had been found and turned in. You did not
find it but you dropped everything and went to
look. Your actions and reassuring voice made
me realize there are a lot of wonderful and
thoughtful people in this world. An employee
there found it and turned it in. Blessings to you
and your employees. Thanks don’t seem to be
enough, but I appreciate you.

Big Springs locations win big
On Oct. 5, Big Springs held their annual homecoming parade
for our local high school and the South Platte football team. This
is our second year getting involved by creating a float to be in the
parade. With all locations helping out – Grandma Max’s, Motel
6, Sam Bass, and the Boss Shop - this year we managed to win
the commercial division and Grand champions for the second
year in a row with our parade float. We enjoyed getting involved
and giving back to the community. – Alicia O’Gorman, Big Springs

1 million square feet of exhibit space. Attendance was 78,337

My husband and I decided to give Grandma Max’s in Urbandale
a try this weekend. Breakfast at Grandma Max’s requires plenty
of plates. When we arrived, we walked into a very quiet lunch
crowd. There were a few men sitting at the counter watching
the news and drinking coffee, and one other person enjoying
some food. It was a welcome change from the hustle and bustle
of many places on the weekends, and we took a seat at a nice,
clean booth in the corner.
A friendly waitress was immediately at our table with menus.
We were surprised to see several options. Breakfast is served
all day here, so I honed in on that portion of the menu. My
husband, on the other hand, looked over the lunch options and
couldn’t wait to order his chocolate malt.
After several minutes of looking and deciding what I could
share with my toddler, I decided on the Big Boss Breakfast. This
massive meal included eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, hash
browns and toast. In my mind, this meal sounded perfect for
sharing and a good excuse to try lots of things on the menu.
Within minutes, my husband’s chocolate malt was served
in a diner glass complete with whipped cream. The waitress
apologized for the lack of a cherry on top, and I smiled at the
sweet, honest hospitality.
As I kept my toddler entertained and looked around at
the clean, minimalist restaurant, I noticed many of the other
Bosselman Settle Inn properties to change franchising
diners there seemed like regulars, but the staff treated us no
differently as first-timers.
When our meals came, I was shocked to see how large my
meal actually was. The two pancakes took up an entire plate
and so did the toast. The eggs and sausage smelled delicious,
and the hash browns were a nice golden brown.
I started with the pancakes and worked my way down to
the toast, careful to try everything before getting too full. My
toddler mashed on the hash browns happily, and my favorite
was definitely the bacon and eggs. Each item was cooked to
perfection and left me extremely full.
With our plates cleaned, we paid our very affordable bill and
went on our way. Grandma Max’s is a perfect family restaurant
suited for all ages.
Lucky Levi wins VW Bug during Danger game
Susan Jester says her son Levi, 15, has always been lucky,
and Friday, April 26, was no exception. During the Danger
football game versus Colorado, Pump & Pantry gave away the
company’s yellow Volkswagen Bug to celebrate 70s night. Fans
could purchase a small soft football for the Throw for Dough
competition, and during the competition, had to throw a football
out onto the field and land it in or near the car to become a
finalist. Six final contestants then guessed how many people
could fit into the car. Levi was the last guesser with 18 as his
guess. 19 kids fit into the car, rewarding Levi with the Bug – on
his mom’s birthday.
“Levi picked the ball number out himself, and it was 322.
22 is his football jersey number, so that was the one he wanted.
He’s a lucky kid, so that’s why I had him throw the ball!” Jester
said. “It was my birthday that night, so Levi wanted to win the
car for me. I’m very excited about driving it and getting some
better gas mileage! We have mainly pickups, so this is a really
nice surprise!” The Jesters farm near Franklin where Susan is
a teacher at Franklin Public Schools and Levi is a sophomore.
This was their first Danger Football game.

After purchasing a pair of Settle Inn hotels in Lincoln and
Bellevue, Nebraska in December 2012, the Bosselman
Companies have signed franchise paperwork that the Bellevue
Settle Inn will become a Comfort Inn & Suites and the Lincoln
Settle Inn will become a Quality Inn & Suites.
The Bellevue location will continue as a Settle Inn through
the summer to offer our customers a fully operational hotel,
while we fit in exterior upgrades along with upgrading the lobby
and pool area during spring and summer. Rooms will start
conversion around first part of September to open a completely
remodeled Comfort Inn and Suites inside and out by the end
of 2013.
The Lincoln location will go through full renovation as soon
as possible with partial rooms available to rent through the
process. During the first phase, the two upper floors will be
under renovation and first floor will be available to customers.
After that is completed, the top floors will then be open and the
first floor will be renovated. Renovations are expected to be
complete by late August (just in time for Husker football fans).
Initial renovation project at York Motel 6 complete

The initial renovation of the Motel 6 property located south of the I-80 interchange has been completed according to Brent
Johnson, Hospitality Division Manager for Bosselman, Inc. of Grand Island.
Bosselman, Inc purchased the former Camelot Inn in October 2012 and reopened it as a Motel 6.“We have totally renovated
the 60 rooms on the south side of the property,” said Johnson.
“That includes both levels. The rooms on the north side of the hallway all have two queen beds and the rooms on the south
side of the hallway have a king-size bed.”
All the rooms have brand new furniture, brand new TVs, new laminate flooring throughout and well, let’s just say everything is
pretty much new in the rooms including granite vanities.
The new flat-screen TVs are set up with connections in the front for gaming systems, HDMI ports and data ports for guest’s
computers. That way, you can hook up your laptop and use the TV as your computer screen.
The color scheme used is part of the Motel 6 Phoenix package according to Johnson. The earth tones are attractive and the rooms
have a European flavor to them.
“This is a very well-built facility,” said Johnson. “The walls are sound and our guests will find that the rooms are virtually
soundproof. The laminate flooring in each room makes the rooms easier to clean and is also better for guests that might have
allergies.”
He also pointed out the guest laundry facilities that are available to guests as another amenity that isn’t always available at
other motels. The Motel 6 also features a very nice green space between the two wings featuring two gazebos and room for the
kids to play. Johnson also mentioned the possibility of installing some grills for guests to use.
The property does have 23 rooms in the north wing but Johnson said that they would wait to do anything with those until they
see what the occupancy rates are going to be. The future plans for those rooms are to renovate them into about 16 suites.

Grandma Max’s exhibits at Taste of Grand Island
March 16 was a ‘tasty’ evening as the Taste of Grand Island
was held at the Skagway Banquet Center. This event is an
annual Fundraiser for Grand Island Rotary, Polio Plus, and
Leadership Tomorrow. Area restaurants, cafes, vineyards, and
other entities bring samples of food and drink for guests to
sample at their booths. Grandma Max’s Restaurant took part
in the event again this year and it was a full house with over
200 guests attending the evening. Grandma Max’s served up
Bacon Cheese & Black n’ Blue Burgers, the Big Max Burger,
Loaded Baked Potato Soup, Fresh Fried Tater Chips, and Cheesy
Mac and cheese. Organizers said local favorite “Uncle Ed” was
jealous of Grandma Max’s fantastic booth display!
On Monday, March 18, 144 families dined at Grandma Max’s
of Grand Island to support Team Jack Lees as the Bosselman
Companies and Grandma Max’s partnered up for a Pasta Benefit.
All-You-Can-Eat Pasta was served with 100% of the proceeds
benefitting Team Jack Lees. Nebraska Danger Football players
were also on hand to meet and greet fans, along with Bones, the
Danger mascot.
Bosselman Companies Hospitality Director Dustin Lofing
comments, “It was our honor to partner with Team Jack Lees for
this benefit and support this little boy and his family as they deal
with a diagnosis which only hits the homes of 300 kids each year
in the US, and assist them with the medical expenses and other
expenses that go along with Jack’s retinoblastoma.”
The benefit received top story coverage on KHAS News 5 and
raised $2,000 for the Team Jack Lees Fund. It was a successful
night with everyone’s help. Lofing adds, “I wanted to personally
thank the Marketing Team for all the materials they put together,
Mike McCoy and the Danger Players for their help, our Hospitality
Staff for doing a great job with the event, our vendors for donating
the product, and Team Jack Lees for serving the supporters and
allowing us to do this for them.”

Team Jack Lees Benefit

Jack’s Story:
On August 14, 2012, we took our almost 13-month-old in for
an eye appointment in Omaha for what we thought would result
in eye glasses. Walking out of the appointment an hour later,
we learned that we were about to start a scary journey with our
baby boy.
Dr. Troia thought he saw in Jack’s eye a tumor, which we
would learn is RETINOBLASTOMA. It is a tumor that attaches to
the retina in the eye(s), that is fast growing and aggressive. He
referred us to Dr. McGill the next day who confirmed our worst
fears, our baby boy had CANCER! We then talked survival rate,
treatments, and other scary stuff that I wish no parent ever
had to talk about. We decided we needed to be in Iowa City
at University Hospital, and that is where we were by 7 am the
following morning.
We met doctor after doctor, did test after test and then were
given even more heartbreaking news. Jack’s tumor had taken
over his whole right eye. We could try chemo, but he would never
regain sight out of it again. We decided that we did not want him
to be put through anything he didn’t need to be, so we made the
tough, but best decision we thought...we would have to have his
right eye removed.
He was in surgery the next morning by 1 pm. Our lives were
a total blur for four days, we were in survival mode for our little
man.
