BIENVENIDOS/ BEM-VINDOS TO THE 11TH
SYDNEY LATIN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL
Thanks to your support, the Sydney Latin American Film Festival is
now entering its second decade. We continue our proud tradition
of presenting multi-award winning gems, with many making their
Australian premiere, as we proudly embrace a new era of bold and
distinctive Latin American storytelling.
JULES AND DOLORES opens our Festival with a bang. Based on the real
life bungled theft of the Jules Rimet World Cup trophy, we will have you
laughing aloud with this award winning, funk filled Brazilian film.
Our opening night party continues with Kriola Collective and DJ Don Juan
@ Cruise Bar!
Festival highlights include THE COMPANION starring Cuban hiphop pioneer Yotuel Romero in a moving performance as a disgraced
boxer. WALKING DISTANCE is an uplifting film about friendship and
redemption while ROAD TO LA PAZ takes us from Buenos Aires to
Bolivia on a road trip full of unexpected turns. Standout Chilean
documentary BEYOND MY GRANDFATHER ALLENDE is a deeply personal
portrait of former President Salvador Allende and his granddaughter’s
search for the man behind the mythology.
Partnering with Festivals from around the globe for the first time brings
the most cutting edge short films to our Festival - we are also thrilled to
announce the launch of a JURY PRIZE FOR BEST FEATURE FILM.
AS A FESTIVAL WITH A CONSCIENCE - we continue to raise funds
and awareness for innovative projects through our COMMUNITY
SUPPORT PROGRAM.
Thank you for joining us in the next phase of our journey.
¡NOS VEMOS EN EL FESTIVAL!
A GENTE SE VÊ NO FESTIVAL!
WE HOPE YOU
ENJOY THE RIDE!

Plenty of countries feel like they’ve been robbed of the World Cup, but
none quite like Brazil.
Rio de Janeiro, 1983. In an attempt to pay off his gambling debt and
appease his flamboyant girlfriend Dolores, fun-loving Peralta decides

Too bad he heists the original cup, which puts the entire country on high
alert. Based on a remarkable event in Brazilian history that was kept
under wraps from the international stage.

Fede lives a lonely life. Morbidly
obese and isolated, his only human
connection comes through visits
from his overbearing sister and her
long-suffering husband. Inspired
after seeing their vacation photos,
Fede makes a rare journey out of
his apartment to develop an old roll
of film, an action that reintroduces
friendship, discovery, and joy into
his life in this delicate and sweetly
realised debut film.

Unwavering in her dedication, she

hours in waiting rooms. Stripped
of any sentimentality, yet utterly
captivating, PATIENT grows into
a monumental indictment of the

In 1983, 154 children of Uruguayan
political exiles, aged 3 to 17,
travelled from Europe to Uruguay
by themselves. Upon their arrival to
Montevideo the children were given
a hero’s welcome; thousands lined
the streets singing, “your parents
will come back”. This moving
documentary investigates how this
powerful political gesture shaped
the identities of the children,
their sense of home, family and
belonging.
