WEEKLY NEWS… at your fingertips Week of 9th September 2013 Vol. 07 Unit of Inquiry ‘Who we are’ Dear Parents, As a part of the Unit –‘ Who we are’ , students of Grade 1 went on a field trip to a village in Baliawas, on Tuesday, 10th September,2013. We visited the traditional village houses to familiarise the children with the essence of the native culture. Students reflected on the similarities and differences in the houses they live in and the ones they visited. Pre Field Trip Activity Glimpses of the field trip Post Field Trip We have concluded our first unit on “Who We Are” and have tuned in into the second unit on “How the World Works” . This unit is based on living things and the changes they go through. Central idea “All living things go through a process of change”. Lines of inquiry• Life cycles • How living things change over their life time • Developmental stages of various living things Key concepts• Change • Connection The students: • were introduced to the theme – How the world works • unfolded the central idea through a sentence strip activity to develop curiosity and inquire further into it • were introduced to diagraph – ‘ar’ through rhyming words such as car, far, bar • discussed and made sentences with the use of correct punctuationscapital letters and full stops Links on Punctuation : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7I18fNFGONY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vi9T4Z7lp9E Inquiry in Hindi : Standard : • recapitulation of two letter words through sentences • shabad kosh mein vridhi related to two letter words • oral comprehension of story “Apna Ghar Sabse Acha” Abnitio: • recapitulation of akshars done through rhymes and stories • shabad kosh mein vridhi related to akshars done • oral comprehension of story “Anmol Salah” Inquiry in Numeracy: • Introduction of number bonds with 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 • Assessment on the concept of ordering and comparing numbers Glimpses of the Week Music • Students practised singing of simple ascending and descending scales in three and four note pattern • Students were introduced to a new sargam • Rehearsals of previous songs were conducted · Dance Students • were taught combination exercises and worked on their flexibility • learnt dance choreography on “hamster song” Challenge The next spelling challenge will be on Friday, 20th Sep. The words for the challenge are: sing, ring, swing, bring, king, jar, market, star, carpet and sharp. Suggested Activity Encourage your child to write a few lines about their field trip to Baliawas village.
