Juan's anniversary, we will have the following events: On Saturday, May 28, a Mass in his honor at 5:30 p.m., will show videos of his ordination and presentation of gifts. On the same day and after the 5:30 Mass, we will all gather at the school gym for a meal of camaraderie, music and fun. You are all invited to come with your family to render Fr. Juan our cordial thanks for everything he does for our church. You are all welcomed and encouraged to bring a covered dish of your choice to share with friends at this joyous gathering. At this time, we will also show a few more pictures and videos provided by Fr. Juan of his home town in Mexico and his ordination 25 years ago. A Mexican Mariachi will be on site for your enjoyment and dancing. We would like to encourage both congregations, Anglo and Hispanic, to attend and enjoy this event. The purpose of this reunion is not only to honor Fr. Juan, but also to give both communities in our church, Anglo and Hispanic, an opportunity to mingle, socialize and get to know each other. Weekly Budget $23,385.00 Sunday Collection 5-15-16 = $12,719.64 Avg. weekly online collection = $4,100.00 Total = $18,990.39 (-$4394.61) Dear Friends of Holy Spirit, Our parish community was struck with tragedy this past Sunday. One of our members, José Alberto Ruiz, was shot and killed, leaving behind his wife and two children (one at Scecina and one at Holy Spirit School). José Alberto was one of our most active parishioners and very dedicated to his family. He taught our Spanish Confirmation program for many years and was a member of the Spanish Knights of Columbus. I will remember him as a very cooperative, friendly person who always had a smile on his face. He was working two jobs to provide for his family. Please keep the Ruiz family in your prayers. If anyone would like to help them financially in this time of great grief and need, please contact the parish office. Last Sunday Fr. Chris Wadelton presided at the final Mass held inside of Holy Cross Church. As you might remember, last year Holy Cross was merged with St. Philip Neri into one parish, while continuing to celebrate Mass at Holy Cross. In May of 2015, large sections from the façade of Holy Cross fell during the night. After a structural review of the building, it was discovered that it would have taken several million dollars for repairs and improvements. Thus, the decision was made to close the building. Fr. Chris said almost 500 people came to the closing Mass. He said there were many tears, but there was a strength and hope in the people that was edifying. Being Pentecost Sunday, Fr. Christ said that they were being set forth, like the disciples, to carry the message of Jesus. Please keep the people of Holy Cross and St. Philip Neri in your prayers as they continue with this transition. Heritage Project at Holy Spirit This project consists in three parts: Mapping, Gathering Data and Telling the Story. You will soon find a large World Map in one of the vestibules and a box of tacks. For those who would like to participate, please place a tack on the country or region on the map where you have a line of ascent or ancestry. This could be one, two or more generations back. And this will be part one of our project: mapping. The second part, gathering data, will consist of asking those who placed a country of origin of their ancestors on the map, to access a web site we are setting up for this purpose. On this web site, they will narrate briefly their heritage and religious memories. What do they remember about worshipping God in their countries of origin? How are religious rites done at those far away lands? How are they different from the ones done in the U.S.? Finally, on the third part, we will ask for some volunteers among those parishioners who responded, to share their stories and to talk to our congregation during some Masses on a designated Sunday to recount these stories and religious differences. This presentation will be brief and the presenter could bring anything to show how worshipping is done in their ancestral countries. Please remember that the main purpose of this Heritage Program is to bring our congregation together. Our country is a melting pot, and so is our church. We thank you before hand for your participation. As our project progresses, we will share more information. Free Catholic Resources Holy Spirit Parish has just joined FORMED. SUBSTANCE ADDICTION MINISTRY (SAM) Perseverance was my way of practicing the same behavior over and over, each time expecting a different result. What I am learning in Al-Anon [or AA, or NA] is things don't magically become different unless I do some footwork. The first step is I have to fully admit there is a problem. Noticing a problem them holding my breath until it goes away is not going to cut it. I realize now that what I used to call perseverance was really just holding my breath. I wasn't living. I was just staying very quiet, not making any waves, and doing everything I could to keep the home functioning. In Al-Anon, I pray, I read conference-approved literature, I go to meetings, and I work with a sponsor. It's all part of teaching me breathe, to fully take life in, and move forward. I'm learning to live. by Maxine I., Washington Reprinted with permission of The Forum, Al-Anon Family Group Hdqts., Inc,. This survey is the second stage in this project, where we will ask only a few simple questions about your cultural or ethnic background.
