Dear Kenra Professional Stylist or Salon Client, Thank you for
! Dear Kenra Professional Stylist or Salon Client, Thank you for choosing Kenra Smooth™ as your professional smoothing system. Kenra Professional® is including with this shipment a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for each system product. A MSDS is required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for any product with chemicals and provides information about the product’s safety and contents. A SDS has essentially the same information in a different format. OSHA is transitioning from the MSDS to the SDS format, so Kenra Professional is providing you with both forms. Kenra Professional welcomes review of these MSDS and SDS forms, but we know they can be difficult to interpret. This letter will help explain one particular piece of information in the SDSs for the Foaming Fluid and the Color Foaming Fluid products. These SDSs list formaldehyde under the heading “Hazardous Decomposition Products.” Neither product has formaldehyde in its liquid form, but they contain other ingredients that decompose into and release very slight concentrations of formaldehyde when heated. The Kenra Smooth system is safe for use. We had independent testing conducted during use of the full Kenra Smooth system in an area not well ventilated, and the results showed that formaldehyde released as part of this decomposition were well below the OSHA limits. Short-term tests results never exceeded 0.07 ppm, which is 96.5% below the short-term exposure level of 2.0 ppm. Tests on continuous use of the system for 8 hours never exceeded 0.04 ppm, which is 94.6% below the timeweighted average limit of 0.75 ppm. These levels are so low that Kenra Professional is not required to disclose this information in the MSDS or SDS forms. So why do we choose to? Because we strongly believe in being completely transparent about our products with you – our customer. We appreciate your business and thank you for your interest in Kenra Smooth. If you have questions or want more information, please contact your Regional Manager, Customer Care at [email protected], or 800.428.8073." ! ! ! !
