Holiday Options
Holiday “Adopt a Family” Scrip Purchase Tie-‐In The St. Raymond Mothers’ Club is excited about its Community Service Learning project for the Holidays. "Adopt a Family" is a school-‐wide, completely voluntary program that aims to help local families. There is no obligation to participate-‐-‐we are simply facilitating a worthwhile philanthropic opportunity for your family. A San Mateo County social worker selected six families for St. Raymond School to gift this Holiday season. These families are local and live within our community. However, their circumstances vary greatly from ours and they need a helping hand. These families will not receive aid through the Giving Tree or other Holiday programs. Your contribution will make a difference. One of the best ways to participate is by donating gift cards. These families struggle with the basics like food, clothing, and gas. Safeway, Target, Gas, Old Navy and Babies R Us/Toys R Us are most appreciated. Moreover... while you help a local family, you satisfy part of your St. Raymond Scrip obligation AND you get a tax write-‐off. What an easy way to MAKE A DIFFERENCE: 1. You buy school scrip...You help St. Raymond School. 2. You donate the gift cards to Adopt a Family...You help your community. 3. You deduct the scrip purchase that you donate to Adopt a Family..You help yourself. If you are interested in participating, just add a few (or many) gift cards to your November scrip purchase. There will be an Adopt a Family box in the office, where you can leave your donation and pick up your tax-‐receipt. Feel free to earmark your donation for a particular family (see back), or we will distribute your donation to the families as needed. Feel free to contact Laurie Halligan at [email protected] with any questions. We hope that making a difference for a local family will make a difference in your Holiday. Here are a few of the families selected for St. Raymond School's Adopt a Family program: FAMILY 1 Mom didn't ask for anything for herself. This mom was recently put on disability for a virus growing inside her spine, which cannot be operated on. It has similar symptoms to multiple sclerosis. The father had a heart attack about 4 years ago and has had significant depression since then. Needless to say, this family is now facing extreme hardship as they were both working and functioning full time before these medical diagnosis. This family is struggling as they no longer have health benefits and will have to move to a smaller apartment to adapt to their decrease in income. Family need bedding and towels. Dad needs clothes for work. FAMILY 2 This family has been unable to find housing as the father lost his job and they needed to move into Grandma's house. Mom, Dad, 7 month old baby girl, and 5 year old boy could use gifts cards to help pay for food, gas, and basic necessities. Because they live in a living room, there is not much they can ask for that won't take up too much space. They shop at Target, Safeway, and Chevron and Shell. FAMILY 3 This family lives in Redwood City. Most of their meals have been from St. Anthony's church these last couple of years. The mom is pregnant and they have a 5-‐year-‐old girl (delayed) and 16-‐year-‐old son. Mom has high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, a heart murmur, and struggles with depression from past trauma. Mom really wants to go back to Sam’s Chowder house for dinner (she went there a few years ago and wishes she had enough money to eat there again). Gifts cards to Target, Macy's, Ross, Marshalls, Arco, and Safeway. Dad desperately needs work clothes from Sears, Wal-‐Mart, Macy's. FAMILY 4 This family lives in East Palo Alto. Mom and dad live in small rented room in East Palo Alto. Mom just recently had a baby (5 month old baby girl) and is waiting to attend medical assistant school in the spring. Family struggling with bills as dad works part time for minimum wage. Family would benefit from gift card for gas, Safeway, gift card for mall or store to buy clothes. SPECIAL SCRIP ORDER FORM

GrowFit’s Active Kids (Grades K-‐2) Join us again this winter for another action packed class of obstacle courses, relay races and other high-‐energy games that will get your students excited about being active in a safe, non-‐competitive environment. During each class... • We take pieces of traditional sports games, like dribbling a basketball or kicking a soccer ball, and blend them together in a fun obstacle course or relay race. Using a variety of sport and fitness equipment we’ve created over a 100 different games that keep every class new and exciting. • Your students will improve upon their agility, balance, coordination, endurance, speed and strength in a safe and non-‐competitive environment. • The focus is on improving, not winning. This method allows students to develop the skills, teamwork and confidence to participate in any fitness/sports activity. This class was designed for children of all skill levels. Grades: K-‐2 Time: 3:00-‐4:00 pm Dates: 11/19, 12/3, 12/10, 12/17, 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 2/25 Cost: $240 Sign up here: http://www.alareg.com/_straymond Holiday Boutique
