“From the Wheelhouse”
By Commodore Gary Kirrkamm
It was great to see the harbors nearly full to
capacity over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend.
After the storms passed Thursday evening, the
weather was picture perfect for the remainder of
the weekend. All Entertainment events were
well planned and executed. BIG THANKS to all
that contributed. Please see Rear Commodore Gene Schaden’s Entertainment
Report for a full list of participants.
Special THANKS to Member John Ayers for providing his beautiful 1946 Chris Craft
Skiff for the Fleet Review. John went to great lengths to prepare the boat for
the event and the results were stunning! John also made a beautiful mahogany
mounting base for the Cannon decorated with the CRBC Burgee.
BIG THANKS to Don Kersey for operating the Cannon aboard the skiff.

The Annual Stockholders’ Meeting is will be held at Stahl’s Automotive
Museum on FRIDAY, November 6th. The Annual Stockholder Meeting
package will be mailed out to Stock Holding Members near the end of
September. This package contains the ballots for the 2016 Board of Directors Election as well as the
biographies for the Director Candidates. The Nominees are Clifford Cohen, Chuck Custard,
Donald Kersey, Richard Rozewicz, Gene Schaden, Matthew Schaden, David Sokolitz, and
Gregory Thompson.
It is very important that all Members participate in the election process. This is your club and the
results shape the future of the club. If you are not attending the meeting, mail your ballot in the
return envelope provided. If you do not receive a package, please contact Secretary Cliff Cohen.
I hope everyone has the opportunity to visit the Island before Island Closing.
It is very peaceful at this time of year. Let’s enjoy a beautiful Fall Season at
Club Island!
Island Closing is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th and I encourage
members to join us for this event. It will be fun as well as a great way to meet
members, both new and old, that you may not have had the opportunity to
meet during the boating season.
Grounds and Maintenance
From the desk of Chris Nevison
As the season draws to a close the
work at Club Island must continue!
Moss Rossi was contracted and has
completed electrical repairs to the West
Side of the South Harbor.
However, as luck would have it, a week
later four pedestals on the East side
suddenly went out of service.
Voltage over the Labor Day Holiday
Weekend was noticeably lower than
usual, dipping below 100 volts at times and tripping
breakers.
Let me restate, this situation was thoroughly investigated
by DTE. Monitoring stations were installed on the island
last year. The resulting data indicated that the low power
has nothing to do with the distribution on Club Island.
In fact, it is due to voltage drop occurring before power
reaches the island, as we are the last circuit in the chain.
So, in extreme heat, when residents and businesses on
Harsens Island are taxing the electrical distribution, it
stands to reason that the results would be lower voltage
at Club Island.
The outboard motor on the Barge was replaced. THANKS
to former member Dave Klicki of Blue Lagoon Marine for
installing the new motor on short notice so the barge
would be running for the Holiday Weekend.
I would also like to thank some members who have
stepped forward to donate their resources over the
upcoming winter so that our fleet of vehicles can get a
much needed servicing and overhaul.
Andy MacLachlan, David Bourbeau and Gerry Knotts
of South River Marine have graciously donated haul out
services and winter storage for the Barge. Cleaning and
repair will also be done.
Director Scott Pifer will be taking the Golf Carts to his
facility for servicing. The handicap cart will be completely
serviced.
Wayne Eversole of Eversole Marine has agreed to
store and do the long overdue rebuild of the Lund.
Furthermore, the three John Deere Gators will be taken
off the island for a full servicing and restoration.
Thank you all for your contributions.
Island Closing is fast approaching on October 10th.
As always, there will be much to do and your help would
be greatly appreciated.
The exterior clubhouse residing project is complete. John
Space is patching and dry-walling the interior apartment
where the windows were located.

Entertainment Report
From the Desk of
Gene Schaden,
Entertainment Chairman
The Summer of 2015 has come to an
end. Even though the weather did not
always agree with our planned events,
we enjoyed many fun times and made
many great Island memories. The Member involvement
was exceptional! THANK YOU to the Hosts of all events!
THANKS to Phil and Bev Grigal for hosting the Ice
Cream Social and Tim and Kathy Jenkins, Jason and
Alisa Reseigh; and Jennifer and Ed Irvine for hosting
the Family Movie Night.
THANKS to Vice Commodore Chris Nevison and Deb
Browarski for setting up the Cardboard Boat Races.
The rumors of a federal indictment of P/C Leonetti for
cheating and racketeering may have been confirmed when
Haley Eversole was able to collect a bounty for
sinking the P/C’s boat.
I would also like to thank my wife, Annmarie, Sarah
Rozewicz, and Deb Browarski for setting up the
Barbecue after the races.
Rob Sogge and Rich Rozewicz were our expert grill
masters cooking up hotdogs and hamburgers. Lastly, a big
shout out to P/C Frank Raymo for the music.
What a whirl wind Labor Day Weekend with great food
and entertainment.
Thanks to Rob and Mary Kay Sogge, and Rob and Pam
Grant for the competitive Tennis Mixer that had the
largest participation seen in some time.
THANKS Commodore Kirrkamm for the Fleet Review
and also to Jon Ayers for being the Captain of the Fleet
Review boat and Don Kersey for firing the Ceremonial
cannon Salutes for Past Commodores.
Another round of appreciation goes to Jerry and Roberta
Reblin for hosting the Cocktail and Appetizer party
and Scott and Karen Pifer for hosting the Afterglow
Party….and of course THANK YOU to Susan Balick and
Karen Eschebach for hosting the “Club Island’s Got
Talent” skits.
THANK YOU Andy and Karen MacLachlan for kicking
off Labor Day Sunday Morning with Mimosas and Bloody
Marys.
The Island Breakfast of Egg McMuffins was enjoyed by
all. THANK YOU to all kitchen helpers, too many to
mention, who came up to the club house at 6:30 am to
prepare and serve. Annmarie and I couldn’t have done it
without your help.
Thanks to Chris Nevison and Deb Browarski for a
successful Ducky Race.
The Labor Day Weekend climaxed with the Labor Day
Dinner. A very special THANK YOU to Chuck and
Kristine Custard, and Jeff and MaryAnn Parker and
their committee that hosted a wonderful dinner and dance
party.
Page 3
From the seating arrangements to the cocktails, the great
DJ, scrumptious dinner and delicious cupcake
Dessert, you all did an outstanding job.
Lastly, a huge THANKS to those who lend a hand where it
is needed, whether it running the vacuum for 15 minutes,
wiping down the tables, or putting things in their proper
place…. your support does not go unnoticed.
Remember that the Island is OPEN this fall for your enjoyment. Come out for some great times at the end of the
season.
