“From the Wheelhouse”
By Commodore Gary Kirrkamm
It is an honor for me to serve as the 2015 CRBC
Commodore. I hope everyone had an enjoyable
Holiday Season. The optimist in me says only 120
days till launch; at least, that is my thought as I
shovel snow.
I would like to welcome Cliff Cohen as the 2015
Secretary. The 2015 Flag Officers are: Commodore
Gary Kirrkamm, Vice Commodore Chris Nevison, Rear Commodore Gene Schaden,
Treasurer Bill Whitley Jr. and Secretary Cliff Cohen. The Membership has also elected
two new Members to the Board of Directors. Welcome Aboard to Scott Pifer and Rob
Sogge! We also had two retirements from the Board. THANKS to P/C Rob Leonetti
and P/C Ron James for their many years of dedicated service to CRBC!
This year the club will be recognizing its 75th Anniversary. P/C Fred Bane and P/C Bill
Whitley Sr. are the Editors of the Commemorative CRBC Anniversary Book. It will be
filled with great photos and stories. The Budget Committee is planning the 2015 Budget that
will incorporate the new Reserve Fund classifications that manage the Sustainability
categories. This format was outlined in presentations during the Town Hall Meetings held
last year.
The budget will be presented to the Board of Directors at the February Meeting and
approved at the March Meeting.
A new Membership Growth Committee, led by Bill Whitley Jr. has been formed to generate
and implement ideas to attract new members. Committee Members are Cliff Cohen, Mitch
Gawrysiak, Scott Gutschow, Andy MacLachlan and Rich Rozewicz. They will present
some innovative ideas that will lead to positive results.
The Board of Directors has approved 9 seasonal boat wells (3 per harbor) to be leased for
$2000.00. If you are interested in a seasonal well, please contact me.
A new Membership Classification has been created to better accommodate our Members.
The Social Membership/Day Boating Classification is as follows: Social Membership/Day
Boating, 31 feet and over. Members who have large day boats will have the opportunity to
enjoy the island at a reduced cost.
I encourage Members to attend the Board of Directors Meeting held the second Wednesday
of the month at Juliano’s restaurant in Warren.
Terrie and I are looking forward to celebrating with you at this year’s
Commodores’ Ball, February 21st, at the Detroit Yacht Club.
Thank you for your continued support.

Grounds and Maintenance Report
From the desk of Chris Nevison
The Board of Directors have approved that repairs
will be made to the clubhouse using monies from the
insurance payout. The damage was caused by the
severe storms during the summer of 2013.
After discussions and debate in the past year, the
Planning Committee has presented a
recommendation to repair and restore the clubhouse
to match its current construction. This would be the
most financially responsible approach and it would
prevent further deterioration to the structure in the
future.
The work will begin soon after Island Opening in
April, weather permitting.
Other projects to be completed in 2015 include the
dispersal of the dredge spoils that remain and
replacement of older docks.
Island Opening
Membership Dues are Due February 1st.
A Late Fee will apply if Membership
Dues are not paid by February 1st.

Entertainment Report
From the Desk of Gene Schaden,
Rear Commodore, Entertainment Chairman
I hope that everyone had a
wonderful Holiday Season and
Santa was good to you.
It has been very cold and the
snow has been blowing. It
doesn’t seem like we should be
thinking or talking about the
upcoming Boating Season, but
doing so is good for the soul.
The warm waters, sunny skies and great
times at Club Island are just around the
corner. We’re over the hump and before
you know it, we’re will be enjoying the
2015 Boating Season at the Club.
Island Opening is April 11th, less than
90 days away.
The first event for 2015 is the
Commodores’ Ball on February 21st
at the Detroit Yacht Club
honoring Commodore Gary Kirrkamm.
It will be an exciting event at a
historical venue.
I hope to see you there.
The Entertainment Events Calendar is being planned and
volunteers are needed to host and help with events. This
is a great way to meet and bond with fellow members and
make lasting friendships. It will be fun and rewarding also.
Please call or e-mail me @ (313) 605-5730 or
[email protected] if you would like to help.
The CRBC Flag Officers and Board of
Directors, on behalf of the Clinton River Boat
Club
, express their sympathy to
P/C Robert E. Merritt and his wife, Joan,
Joan and
their family, for the loss of their Dear
Granddaughter, Aislynn Merritt.
Merritt
Aislynn was the youngest daughter of Craig
and Pamela Merritt and she was a Freshman
at Anchor Bay High School.
The Funeral Service was held on January 19th
in New Baltimore.

ABYA January 2015 Meeting
(submitted by P/C Bruce Reichmann, Delegate)
As recent Past Commodore, it is my privilege to serve as the 2015 CRBC
Delegate for the Anchor Bay Yachting Association.
The January ABYA meeting was held at the Huron Point Yacht Club. The
2015 Flag Officers were introduced and responsibilities of each officer
were given. All ABYA Delegates were then introduced. Each Delegate has
been assigned a mentor, if needed, and the mentor for CRBC is Vice Commodore Rick Romatz. The ABYA is celebrating its 49th Anniversary this year.
It was reported that 157 persons attended the ABYA Christmas Charity Ball, which resulted in a
donation of $2,000.00 for the Sea Cadet Program.
On Thursday, January 29th at the MacRay Harbor, there will be an educational class from
7:30-9:00 p.m. discussing the “Lake St. Clair Watershed -- How Does It Affect Me & Water Level
Project Seminar”.
The ABYA Spring Rendezvous will be held at the Best Western
Valley Plaza Inn on March 20th – 22nd.
The cost is $345.00 per couple. Pricing includes Friday Dinner,
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on Saturday, and Sunday Brunch.
If you are interested in attending, please contact me for a
reservation form.
New owners of the Best Western have renovated 75 rooms, which
have been reserved for the Rendezvous.
The February Meeting will be hosted by the Nautical Mile Yacht Club on Monday, February 2nd at
7:30PM at Captain Jack’s Lakefront Bar & Grill.
The ABYA strives to promote charity and camaraderie within the 30 affiliated Boats Clubs. These goals
are accomplished by donating funds to the Tri-County Marine Sheriff Divisions and the Sea Cadets. The
ABYA is a 501©(3) non-profit corporation. The website is w w w . A B Y A . o r g
On behalf of the CRBC
Membership, the Flag
Officers and Board of
Directors wish to offer their
condolences to Griffin,
Susan and Ray Balick for
the death of Susan’s Dear
Dad, Richard S. Gosik.
Mr. Gosik passed away on
December 29th at the age of 77. He was a Professional
Commercial Photographer.
As Island Photographer, Susan’s interest in
photography was inherited. He was also an
avid lifelong boater.
The 2015 Entertainment Calendar is
being planned. We need volunteers to
host events for next summer.
If you are willing to help with an event or
have a new idea for an event, please
contact Gene Schaden, Entertainment
Chairman.
